Chase, this has quickly become one of my favorite hiking channels. Your trips, your reviews and also your training programs are incredibly helpful! So thanks for all the work you put in. I am super excited for you to do the HRP this year and cannot wait to see the videos you post. That little valley seemed like the perfect place to become a child again and play in the waterfall. Makes me want to do the HRP as well.

yes, finally someone on youtube tackling the HRP, so cool to see!! :) I did the basque section in 2018, got food poisoning and then finished it in 2019. by far the toughest hike I've done, even the couple of people I met who'd done some or all three of the big american trails agreed on that. it'll be cool to watch you hike it when I get back from my own summer hikes. feel free to shoot me a message if you have any questions you feel like having someone else's perspective on :)

Cheers to your upcoming hike! I’ve got a recommendation for a rain shell to check out: mountain hardwear quasar. My large weighs 260 grams (runs large) while being a 3L gore-tex active material. Surprisingly bomber for how light it is, breathes surprisingly well too (I’ve done some hard runs in it during downpours). not the lightest for UL hiking - but I also enjoy mountaineering and skiing which this is good for as well. Not cheap, but I’m really enjoying. Happy trails!

Hey man, great video! All the best of luck for this summer's trip! Also: the coffee filter works great if you use a finer (Espresso) grind and pour proper slow for the first 10 sec or so, until the grounds have moisturized. Saw you figured out a way to use it at the end, but this might save you having to wash up your pot in the morning. :)

Great to see the growth in your editing! Well done! I used to do the tent and pad thing just like you, lightness but just too cramped and uncomfortable, now it is a 4" big but light inflatable mattress and a cheap but impressively light single wall A frame type tent. A good, cushy bug-less night sleep, getting dressed inside without yoga moves definitely makes the weight worth it for me but, I don't thru hike either. I just set a base camp deep in there near some epic ridge loops that have a cool summit or two along the way. . . I can't climb those ridges safely with a pack anyway. . . Makes wearing a solid arrouach shoe worth it too VS trail runners. Leaving the tent saves that damp or frozen pack up as well. . . Your map view is great, second only to a drone.

Expensive af but i think it's worth it. Far better than that Patagonia Micro puff box/garbage bag fit 🤢.

Might seem like it wouldn't make a difference, but I added an 1/8 inch foam pad (68 grams) to my kit to use as a pack back pad and also on top of my ccf and it made my ccf WAY more comfy. I'm not sure where to get in the EU, but I think it is called Evazote foam. Also, Forclaz's merino wool is amazing! It really doesn't hold the stink at all. EDIT: Also, great editing! That was really enjoyable.

I live just North of Lourdes and can see the Pyrenees from where I live. The first snows recently fell on the higher peaks and several areas are now under the new snow tyres/chains rules. I was thinking about how well barefoot shoes work in cold and icy/snowy conditions? Most people wouldn’t leave the car park without Goretex hiking boots.

  • @ChaseMountains

Nice! I filmed this is spring and there was really very little snow. My shoes aren’t gore tex but by utilising a boot pack (trails of others in the snow) I was able to keep my feet dry. It’s going to be a different story in winter. But there’s plenty you can do in a shoe.

The 3D map shares were fantastic. Thanks for another epic journey, (vicariously for me). I am 64 and wearing wrist supports, is that what you had on in first part of film? Namaste!

So gooood. Very jealous. What are the rules on this route regarding wild camping? I'm hoping to try and do some/all of it next year. Doing some Scottish trails this year.
