Hiking in Switzerland | Augstmatthorn via Alp Horet | Swiss Alps Canton Bern | 2020 (4K-Video)

Үй жануарлары мен аңдар

Breathtaking ridge hike to the Augstmatthorn with a majestic view on the famous Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau massif. We started our hike at the Lombachalp rest area. After a short way on the road the path started to climb to the alp Horet and further up to the Harder ridge. Once we reached the Harder ridge we had the famous mountains Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau in plain sight. We continued on the ridge until we reached the bases of the Suggiture. A intermediate peak on the way to the Augstmatthorn. After a steep and demanding ascent we arrived on top of the Suggiture. The view was absolutely stunning on the Bernese alps in the south and lake Brienz underneath. We then continued our hike on the very narrow mountain ridge trail with all the major peaks of the Bernese alps in plain sight. Soon we reached the summit of the Augstmatthorn, the goal of our hike. From there we followed the very steep trail back down into the valley until we came back to Lombachalp. were our hike ended.
Tour itinerary
Our hike starts at the Lombachalp rest area (1559m) and follows the path up to Alp Horet (1734m) and further to Harder ridge. We then continue on the Harder ridge trail to Suggiture (2085m) and all the way to Augstmatthorn (2137m). After a steep descent we arrive again on the Lombachalp rest area (1559m) where we started.

it's a really stunning views and I really like your video. after watching your video, I'm planning to this amazing Augstmatthorn. I'm just wondering, is that the way wide enough to drive a van or a RV uphill to the parking lot? I have seen another video who drives to the parking lot but the way seems only for one car? I mean, if I am driving uphill, and the same time there is a car downhill, is that way wide enough? expecting your reply, thanks!

Thank you very much for your wonderful comment, appreciate it very much. So glad you enjoy watching our videos. The road is wide enough for any type of vehicle, no problem. There is even a bus service to the Lombach Alp. As always in the mountains, when two vehicles cross on a narrow street, one has to wait in the nearest bay, no problem at all. See my Bonus video about driving to Lake Derborence, there you see how its done: kzread.info/dash/bejne/k4Nrla2hibuzp5M.html Wishing you all the best and best regards, Markus

LG Markus

Hallo Chris, vielen Dank!

Do you by any chance know the focal length (mm of lens) that you used and either sensor size or full frame equivalent? It seems you guys had the 'right' focal length, and based on that research i will either take the 12-24mm or 24-70mm (both no crop due to large full frame sensor) to the mountain top next year. Beautifull footage, especially thanks for marking the mountains on horizon. Btw any tips to avoid clouds? I mean it seems clouds are random and can at any time just 'go there', is there a trick to know 'today there wont be view breaking clouds?

Thank you very much for your wonderful comment, appreciate it very much! These footages were taken with the GoPro Hero7 black. I don't know the exact focal length of that lens, but its definitely wideangle. So in terms of fullframe equivalent, this would be your 12-24mm lens. For the panoramic pictures we took our mobile phones in vertical panorama mode. So in order to get some detailed images, the 24-70 seems more suitable for picking out individual mountains or lakes. Sorry, I cannot give you more precise information, you might want to test it at home, what suits you best. Regarding the weather, please note that this video in particular was taken during the worldwide corona lockdown where all air traffic was halted. We will never ever get that blue sky again in Switzerland. You will probabely always end up with condensation trails from air traffic. Other than consulting weather sites prior to your hike we do not have any other tricks up our sleaves. Sometimes you have to take a risk and hope for the best as you can see in our video here: kzread.info/dash/bejne/nqGdqbN6eZyedLQ.html Wishing you all the best and best regards, Markus

@@SandraMarkusTrachsel Tyvm! It answered my question: Gopro8 = 16.5mm (Basically extreme wide, only 14mm and 12mm are wider but quite rare, luckely i bought myself into the 'ultra wide angle' 'Beast' of 12-24mm so i'm set. If 16.5mm is what you guys used in moving scenes 50-70mm wil be waste most of time (i mean zooming that much in to the Junfrau region would remove either top of bottom of mountain (not enough image info), only for a specific crop this would work, i might take a 35m prime with me (and 55mm wich is feather weight also) but i'll do more research and testing, although i must say, tyvm for telling me it was gopro 8 (16.5mm). Is the opening shot (Suggiture beauty) also taken with go pro? it seems a little more cropped but could be mistaken. And ouch, i didnt know air traffic kills the air clarity, i didn't know that. I'm almost sad now that i see most '2020-2021' are the video's and images i liked the most, this is insanely sad i will have crappy clarity in Zwitserland perhaps (taking images home is of especially high importance to me, it's the reason i'm preparing this much). In all video's i watched, (but one right now) there was no airplanes to be heard), but in last one it was really annoying. I'll guess i'll have to google airplane traffic, maybe there is a day with less of these. I go in September, maybe the touristic flights go on a lower tempo then hopefully, cause it should be less crowded then August (every source seems to confirm this). Maybe in morning less 'smog' (dirty from engines), so maybe even more reason to start at 6am to Harder Kulm. I know i need to take tons of drinks with me (4 liter some day or more, i'll probably take so much but try to drink 1.5 liter and trash it at harder Kulm but what about food? Take breads with you ,or small food like 'energy gels'? Any breakfeast recommendations for such walk? I ask all these question because: belgium coast is flat, so no practise possible :) A Bridge is a mountain here, so to speak. I checked tons of video's and the Tannhorn is a skip now for me (to dangerous from Brienz side), but rest looks fine, though i'm little scared for the steep drops after Augstmatthorn and Suggiture, are they as dangerous as they look?

All static images were taken with our Samsung Galaxy S9 in vertical panorama mode. We dont take still frames from the GoPro Hero 7 Black. No need to google air traffic, its the same throughout the year and whether it leads to condensation trails or not we cannot determine. September is definitely a beautiful month to hike because the air is much clearer than mid-summer. And even you have some scattered clouds and airplains, it might not disturb the view. Compare these two videos just taken 2 weeks appart last year. In the first one the sky is abolutely beautiful with almost no clouds and plains only leave a tiny trail behind that disappears immediately kzread.info/dash/bejne/f6aLtNWwdNTQhNI.html . The second one is much worse, the plains actually lay a cloud cover over Switzerland (among other clouds of course): kzread.info/dash/bejne/mYGfpMF8qq6cd6g.html . So the only forcast you can rely on is whether its a sunny or cloudy day in general, the rest is up to nature. The hike to Tannhorn is considered very difficult where the hike we did is easy in comparision, please note that the wide angle makes the ridge more dramatic than it really is, so take that with a grain of salt. Regarding breakfast, we always do a normal breakfast because it then takes us 1-2 hrs until we start the hike. If you start your hike IMMEDIATELY after breackfast then you might want to be more careful of what you eat (in general diary products such as milk and joghurt are not recommended when you start your hike immediately). But if you have breakfast 1-2 hrs before your hike, then just eat what you like. Regarding drinks, we barely take 2 liters per person, which is on the lower side, but we also might not drink enough. Also in september it is much cooler and therefore you dont sweat as much as in mid-summer. But definitely bring enough water, running out of water is terrible on a hike but 4 liters seems more than enough IMHO. We alway mix apple juice and water (2:3 ratio, more water than juice) and you have to put in a small amount of table salt to make it easier to digest (but not to make it salty, add as much salt until you can barely taste the salt). Food-wise we take a sandwich each for lunch (bread, dried/cured low-fat meat and cheese) and some dried fruit and nuts, a fresh apple and some energy/chocolate bars. Dont eat anything that is makes you feel full and is hard to digest. I would highly suggest that you find out the best combo for you BEFORE you head up to the mountains, so if in doubt make some long hikes around your place and see what works best for you. Please also note that this is what suits best for us, this is not a general recommendation, but just to give you an idea what you coud try out. Wishing you all the best and best regards, Markus
