Hiking Diamond Head | Most Famous Landmark in Hawaii

Ойын-сауық

Diamond Head, also known as "Lēʻahi" in Hawaiian, is a renowned volcanic cone located on the island of Oahu in Hawaii. It is considered one of the most iconic landmarks in the state, offering breathtaking views and holding historical significance.
Formed over 150,000 years ago during a volcanic eruption, Diamond Head is a tuff cone-a result of explosive eruptions followed by ash and cinder accumulation. Its distinct silhouette can be seen from various parts of the island.
Situated on the southeastern edge of Oahu, near the city of Honolulu, Diamond Head is part of the Diamond Head State Monument, which spans over 475 acres. Visitors can easily access the monument via road, and there is a designated parking area available.
One of the main attractions of Diamond Head is the hiking trail that leads to its summit. The trail begins within the crater and stretches approximately 0.8 miles (1.3 kilometers) to the rim, ascending to an elevation of 760 feet (232 meters). The hike includes switchbacks, steep stairs, and tunnels. Upon reaching the top, hikers are rewarded with panoramic views of Waikiki, Honolulu, and the Pacific Ocean.

Hubby was fine going up, but at 13:31 he twisted on that "pothole" and sprained his ankle. It shook him up really good so we were thankful for the couple in front of us who doubled back to help us get him back on his feet. Just remember, the downward path has its own challenges.

Wonderful place. Many people who hiked here 50 years ago are still alive. What could happen is that Neuralink, and Midjourney are united to make videos of that time from peoples memories. Besides videocamera we are also recording to memories in our mind.

That was quite the adventure, AK. Thank you! It brought back childhood memories for me. Not of Hawaii but of the continental US. places like Yellowstone, etc. I remember doing a lot of hiking trails with my parents, narrow trails and switchbacks. I'd almost forgotten until I saw this. I really enjoyed the hike! Everything from the red-headed birds to the magnificent views. Did you see any crystals? I collect raw minerals and shells:-) I hope you do Yellowstone someday:-)

This hike brings back memories, and it was a fun scenic hike to Diamond Head! 24:25 I just check my photo album, and I went up these steps into the tunnel. It gets crowded and can feel claustrophobic. 30:00 Look at those views!! 😍 34:08 I remember being up here and seeing the spectacular views of Waikiki! 😍 36:32 You're so funny walking against the rock! 🤣🪨 I don't recall going this path, so it's neat to see you recorded this! 39:21 I took a picture of this stair way at the bottom but probably didn't climb up. 🤔 Thank you so much for sharing this hike, AK! 🤗⛰

I believe you could see Koko Head(?) in the distance at 16:05. Awesome view from “End of Trail” 22:05. I personally didn’t care for walking the tunnel even though my head was safe 😅 At 30:00 it’s almost as if you can see the curve of the horizon. This video brought back a lot of memories especially the stairs at 31:45. I climbed them a long time ago and I had no interest in climbing them again! So glad you completed the DH Crater trail hike! Thanks for recording it for us! 🌺
