Say a little thanks to Gudy Gaskell whose hard work, determination and persistence brought the Colorado Trail to life. It was her dream. I hiked those years that she was lobbing for trail funds, pestering politicianss and government officals to make her dream come true. She is smiling down on you guys taking in the wonders of the trail. It is a spiritual experience.

The big pack part was crazy but that was definitely me for a few years in my hiking career! Now, I cut almost everything I don't use. I try to get rid of cases and put stuff into lighter bags. I even downgraded from a huge camera to a GoPro to cut weight. The GoPro does more than the big camera did anyways. Great video! Lot's of fun!

Yes for those long trails it is a Godsend. The social aspect of it is great when you are wondering about water sources and people post what it’s like recently. Also, the elevation views are helpful, but sometimes discouraging. A far cry from the old green maps we used to use.
