Most people don't understand who Hachiman really is and they think they are like him. Hachiman is a hypocrite and he knows it himself that he is. He does the exact opposite of his ideals, he is a self-proclaimed loner because he doesn't want to be hurt or rejected, yet he still saves other by sacrificing himself even tho he hate the society.

Can't really blame people. I bet a lot of people that love this show do it because they see a bit of themself in Hachiman..mainly the lonely awkward guy that truely just want to be liked but keeps getting themself into even worse situation thanks to either bad social skills or bullying. I can't say I don't see myself in him as well. AInt gonna go out and say I am especially smart or reliable like he is because I am not but him putting up barriers to protect himself, pretending to be fine with being alone and being the bad guy despite it hurting him like crazy..and hating oneself thanks to feeling like you are actually in the wrong..well..that probably hits a lot of people very close to home so they relate to him..and wish to be like him..

People who are lonely just want to be like 8man, because even if he is a loner, he doesn't care at all about that. But normal people who are lonely can't really live forever without caring for social interactions like an anime character. So they wish to be as strong as him, even if it's impossible. I think that's just it.

The anime helps a person think and Hachiman's philosophy is true in many aspects because he doesn't fall prey to the standards of the M.C or real life expectaions. In reality he wears only one mask while he see's everyone else 2 faced or hiding behind something. He see's the world in truth, it's real colors, it really makes a person think and see the world differently then what average people would normally see it.

He's already viewed as weird and worthless by others. He's the one who makes the decision to take the fall. If anyone is gonna have to get hurt then it might as well be the hopeless loner. I myself am a loner and believe this whole heartedly. If I can take the fall for someone who's just trying to live a rose colored life then why shouldn't I? Better me than anyone else. This anime is just perfect. I like 8man so much. Unlike in other anime where the mc tends to be an idealist and gives off morals of forgiving others and much more but Hikigaya is different from any other mc. That is what makes him badass and cool. His quotes and all are like so underhanded that are best.

Hachiman is the realest character man, I swear. Massive respect towards him. I don't want to sound like some edgelord or anything, but he reminds me a lot of myself actually. His overall attitude and way of life are just too relatable. His quotes always give me chills because I can really feel them. Like, sometimes he says or does something and I'm just there like ...damn. Also, thank you for creating this AMV. EDIT 2024: I can not believe it's been 7 years. In 2022, I finally met the girl who meant everything to me, just like Hachiman did with Yukino, something genuine. I had been friends with her for 9 years online and we entered a relationship when I met her in her country. I will never forget that magical feeling of genuine love for the first time and finally escaping the loneliness. But not too long after that, it wasn't what I thought it would be and lost her forever. I hope she's well. Here I am walking the path again on my own. Oregairu is a masterclass of an anime and my absolute favorite. There's truly nothing like it.

Thanks for that AMV that gave me chills and a bitter smile on my loner face. I really think that "we", loners, really understand 8man (and the author) because we live (or lived) the same thing. Or at least, we realized that we were fooling ourselves and playing roles just to not be alone, and prefered turn back to fake people to try to be our true selves. I personnally prefer being myself, cynical as fuck, realistic, caring but alone than to be a fake smiler surrounded by fake "friends"... If two loners meet, do they become friends ? Imo no, because they wouldn't be loners otherwise. That's what I thought when I was dreaming about having an acquaintance like 8man...

Horia Popescu Some of that may be true, but I think saying that most people don't care about you is going a bit far, a lot of people will care about you but I would have to say that maybe your closest friends won't, and the pain afterwards will depend on how emotionally attached you are too that person, my advice is, don't trust easily, idc how many times you laugh with the guy/girl, or how many times you two go out on amusement parks or malls, never trust easily. My ideology is that people will refuse to believe that the life they live now is a lie and choose to believe the wonderful lie they live in now, they won't listen to us, won't even acknowledge us. It's better to stay quiet and keep your own space, not saying be alone forever, maybe one day you'll find that special someone, don't be emo, but also don't be too social, be anti social but not too social, if that makes any sense. My advice is whatever you feel like you need to move on from, then try to. Because ik the least thing anyone wants is to worry about others, other than your own family of course.

Sometimes I wonder how much people really understand Hachiman as a character. He doesn't enjoy being alone, being that I've read parts of the light novel which has internal monologue the anime leaves out, Hachiman frequently hints at the idea that he is a loner because of circumstance and not by choice. This is what brings out his philosophies we see in the anime because he was essentially pushed away time and time again before highschool. Essentially Hachiman wasn't born a brooding loner and has a side of him that is fairly normal that the viewer doesn't get to see adapted in the anime.

I emphatize with people because I would like them to do the same for me, that was always my point of view: "Treat others like you would like to be treated". But still, it's hard, especially when nobody gives an actual duck (yes duck ok) about you. I'm almost sure they think I'm so stupid, but they hide it, when I actually want to care and have a good friendship with them.

I have never felt more related to a character in my life. The number of times I have inflicted myself, and still do to this day, with making myself lonely for "the greater good" because I feel like that is what I deserve and what I am. And let's not talk about feeling and even knowing that you are a smarter person than average, it can get really hard to actually get why people enjoy doing certain things that seem futile, that society is just a dumpster and why bother, since everytime I do try to get towards people I assure myself that they don't like me, that I'm gonna get hurt by people. It can be a very bad way of using your intelligence and your sensitivity, inflicting all that to yourself and hiding that you are not feeling good to other people and yourself. Now I put this comment here and I'm scared people will mock and attack me for saying "I'm a smarter person than average" or "What they do seems futile". Usually I would never say these kind of things in front of anyone, except maybe with a lot of effort to my close family or my best friend. But I changed, and am trying to be a better person, although I a lot of times feel as though I am failing, I don't wanna give up.

I wouldn't say the way I was before was "wrong", but I can't say it was perfect, and it will never be anyways. But simply that some things had to be established, and I couldn't just avoid getting towards people simply because of being scared of the pain and the critics. Of course I stil have that but I am little by little accepting who I am, and that I can just be who I am instead of inflicting myself with loneliness.
