9:15 something interesting about this is that Hikaru was saying in his recap that during his game he saw that Anish had a strong position against Esipenko, so he felt comfortable playing for the draw rather than finding something riskier and more aggressive. Kind of meta gaming in a way. I wonder how much effect that has on the results of these high level tournaments, and whether its a good thing or not.

Vidit fell little short to qualify for Candidates in World Cup but NOT TODAY.

That battle was insane 😨

Hikaru mentioned that he learned he secured at least second place to get the Candidates pick, then played it safe to secure the draw.

To be fair, Esipenko lost before Hikaru made the draw so he already knew a draw was good enough.

I am not a Hikaru fan but to be fair he performed very well in this tournament - winning all the games he needed to win, and when he couldn't win he drew.

It really is a great time to be an Indian. The country is doing OK (much better than before tbh), our space agency is doing a commendable job, our cricket team is going undefeated so far in the Cricket World Cup, our football team is improving, 2 Indians win the Swiss tourny in chess and 3 move to the candidates and so much more! I hope we continue to improve much in other things as well!

It's very unlikely Even if there is a event=they must dominate it to get 20 points++ its very hard to get point once u reach 2750ish

Fischer played Taimanov in Vancouver, May 1971. Bent Larson in Denver, July 1971. Those were candidates matches. In fact, he went 12-0 in those two matches, so if that's any sign of what might happen...

Is there any preventative measures for players "fixing" matches? Like for example if anish like liked esipenko as a player and wanted to see him in the candidates could he not just subtly make a few small inaccuracies that lead to a loss? Is there any incentive for him not to do that or are the best chess players just generally good enough sports that they wouldnt do that

I think Esipenko was well prepared and the opening was fine - you didn't really talk about the critical moment ( i felt it wasn't just a "big trade") and where he lost a lot of time, he blundered. I don't blame him though with all the pressure
