I thought the jumpscare was totally pointless, just having the call cut sound would be scary enough imo (not saying I got scared of the jumpscare, it didn't really do anything for me, on the opposite it ruined a little the experience personally)

This feels like the song equivalent of a spider.

The first time you hear this is perfect, it totally adds to the despair Keiichi feels realizing rika and satoko is definitely dead, and the character in the other side of the phone is even playing with you as you suffer about their deaths

Sounds like two pirate captains having a battle out on the high seas, during a stormy night, of course.

hearing the first few seconds of this track for the first time nearly scared me. I wasn't expecting that

as other ppl have said, this really sounds like a layton song. It really reminds me of some of the tracks from unwound future specifically.

Sounds like Professor Layton is going to pop up any minute now.

It was during the phonecall scene that I realized that clipping is WHERE IT SHOULD BE. Although KZread makes it seem a bit worse than it is, clipping really does happen in the VN... but the harshness of clipping feels perfectly fitting for Higurashi...

xD You're right, Fascism is one of the greatest themes in the VN ( my favorite with Demonic institute ), and the clipping fits quite good with it. It sure is better than the moderated version ... But for other "emotional" songs, like Dawn, Sunrise or Gear, clipping is really disturbing ... Personnally I prefer the moderate versions of these songs. Oh well. Anyway, Higurashi kicks ass. I red the four first books, the other are being translated. Can't wait for them ! ^^

Best piece in the question arc for me

- "Rena's Meteors" : A game in which Rena is giving punches, to the left or the right : you must click right or left button before it hits you. - "Flash Keiichi" : A picture of Angel Mort Rena has been cut into much pieces, which are apparing randomly on the screen then disappear. The goal is to click on three of each pieces to complete the picture, while not clicking on Satoko's traps. - "Big Boobs" : A kind of Brick breaker game in which. ( hard to explain )

The menacing orchestration reminds me of Overture of the End (Princess Shroob's Theme) from Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time 🍄👽

Our translator, Pierre Bancov, specified in an interview that he had to take contact with all the people who was involved in the making of the VN : for the backgrounds, the music, the sounds ... And yeah, French version contains mini games. Don't worry, you're not missing anything fantastic. ;) Mini games are just for fun. Although the musics are quite entertaining ...

@193Raiden @seieireppa As the tags say, it comes from Watanagashi. It played when Keiichi questioned Shion on the phone about when she met Kimiyoshi, and when Keiichi was about to be tortured.

@193Raiden It plays in Tatarigoroshi, I think, when Keiichi goes to Dr. Irie to confess that he "killed" Satoko's uncle, then Irie leaves the room and tells everyone how Keiichi's crazy and needs to be institutionalized.

@ozoz93 It also comes from Tatarigoroshi. I remember the first time I heard it as being when Keiichi confesses his murder to Irie. I still have a save file at that point so I could hear it over and over again (of course, this was BEFORE I found it on youtube).

And then : - "the errant-girl" : Rika dressed in cat is walking around Hinamizawa, and must escape to Rena, Oishi, Tomitake and Irie by clicking in rythme with the mouse. That's all. ^^

@Lukeskywalker62 well, i'm not sure about the french, but I know in the english translated version thats on itunes {translated by mangagamer} they had to replace most of the tracks and get rid of the mini games and sound room and stuff. This was due to legal issues, and apparently the french version actually has more than the english version {according to what i've read.} but they apparently needed to jump through some major hoops to get it.

@Lukeskywalker62 the French translators got in touch with the music authors to give them the original "source" tracks for the music and made them a bit more "moderated" as you say it. It makes them sound more professional... and on some songs, it's clearly a good change... but most of the clipping is where it SHOULD be. "Clipping audio" or just "clipping" refers to that harsh somewhat distorted sound it makes when the audio is too loud and here it fits. AWESOMELY.

@Upsilon927 you're joking... the melody is completely different.

Btw I checked the game's files and it doesn't sound as bad in here, couldn't it be youtube that crippled the audio quality?

What do you mean ? There's a thing I cannot understand ... I'm french, and I'm reading the French version of the VN ( actually well-translated ). However, the musics aren't the ones I can find on KZread. Of course they have the same notes, but the saturation isn't here and it's more ... well, "moderated". Are there differents versions of the same musics in the Visual Novels ?

@LanaGame I thought a few of them were composed... but it's quite possible that he just picked a song and decided to make it louder... he is not good at sound engineering then. :) Though I think you're right, Kai does not have such issues, I think... so I must have been misinformed. :)

Actually, tbh this sounds like something out of a Pokemon Gameboy.

why does 07expansion picks a rather low quality music? This music is actually good but the quality is just bad :/ My ear is kind of hurt listening to this.

Well if you think about it, this is an old series. Plus it somewhat adds to the eerie tone this song creates.

@LanaGame because Ryukishi sometimes took the "test" versions sent to him by the musicians. I can imagine a musician checking out the results and being like "Oh my god, WHY THE FUCK DID HE USE *THAT* VERSION*. Sometimes the choice fits perfectly and the results sounds right in the scene itself. (like this song) Sometimes, however, especially with some of the softer songs, the choice is completely unexplainable. He couldn't have been THAT pressed for time.

SPOILER FOR HIGURASHI SOTSU I know they probably can't use it, but damn imagine if once Mion realized she killed Shion in Wataakashi, this song played.

The original music is by and large more varied (and there's just more of it), but the MangaGamer "scary" music is a lot better.
