In most cases, they’re allowed to drive it for a certain period of time until they get it fixed, subject to certain conditions depending on what needs to be fixed (e.g. if the headlights don’t work, they’ll put a condition on the defect notice saying the car can’t be driven at night). If it’s too dangerous to drive, they’ll ground the car.

That heap of shit might ride around town ok 90% of the time, but get it in an emergency, say a bit of speed, maybe some wet weather and a bump, and suddenly the dynamics of the car are thrown out and it will react terribly, possibly costing someone their life or turning them into an invalid. The public road isnt a place to inflict his choice of bad hobby on others.

Here in the UK the police give you £150 fine and three points for each tire. Then they will take your car away if you can't get it towed. Which can cost another £150. And in this case the front tire had a bubble that totals 9 points £450 fine plus 150 to get your car back.

I worked at a car impound in Victoria, and for parking in a clearway, it cost people $400 just to retrieve their car, then another two fines of $150 each. Most of these people couldn't even afford to get their cars out, let alone pay the additional fines, but some people pulled out wads of cash to get their Mercedes out, and wouldn't blink an eye. $700 for parking illegally is not justified, it's disgusting.

Clearly I spend too much of my life living in the bush.
