Highway Agency Rolling Roadblock - UK Driving Dashcam Footage

Спорт

On my way home along the motorway, Highway Agency Traffic Officers perform a rolling road block on the M6 near Coventry, so that some potholes can be patched up.
Join me as I sit on the motorway for a few minutes on a wet Saturday afternoon.
I've always wondered what Traffic Officers do.
Nothing spectacular happens

    @@s1opp @s1opp lmao, haha. I'm one of the weirdo's who LOVES this type stuff. Public sector - Traffic Officers & road safety, RTC investigation & law related are my intensely obsessive drive in life. Desperately trying to get offer of employment from a UK employer - would be nice if it were Highways England though salaries there - initial anyway - are LOW...£10,428.50 per annum + £1658.25 shift bonus per annum with rotating 40 hours/week shifts. I thought, wow. Of course I cannot find the posting I'm for the job I am referring to & was looking at barely 2 hours ago. Anyway, I actually really like this video as things like this I find interesting. I wish there was another season of "The Motorway" or a few more episodes even. I actually REALLY like the first bit of background music. What is it/where did you find it? Tiffany

    I wish the Traffic Officers would inform the drivers of what's going on, and considering they had like 4 mins of waiting, they could easily just slowly walk down the road informing several drivers, so that none get impatient thinking nothing serious is going on. Cuz if I was in this situation without any information I think I would get impatient haha.

    I have to be fair to them, one of them did tell me that they were fixing potholes further down the motorway. It's just my crappy dashcam didn't pickup the audio. You're right though, they could have walked down the line and spread the message

    @@s1opp, we don't walk down between the rows of traffic for more than two or three vehicles for one simple reason, The further we go down the less control we have over the traffic at the front and the less we can see. Just because someone at the front says they will stay where they are doesn't mean they will and if we have moved down the traffic we may miss the fact a vehicle has moved. And if we miss that it could potentially put workers at risk further slong the road as we wouldn't be able to warn them.

    I guess it would need more workforce, vehicles and equipment to work at night. Plus danger for accident higher. But its 3 lane road, they could do blockade on two lanes and leave one free, repeat twice to cover all lanes during day (at least thats how they do it in some European countries).

    @@Dan-zb7vn, your sir are an idiot! You obviously aware are you not that NON of the 3 big breakdown companies, ie the AA RAC & G/F will not recover you from a live running lane. So if you breakdown or crash and cannot reach a designated safe area such as an emergency bay or service area you will need US to remove you from said live lane. Also WE deal with a multitude of other incidents that would seriously delay or put you at risk on your journey. Such as debris in the road, removing crashed vehicles, pedestrians, cyclists, animals both alive and dead, the list goes on and on. WE deal with over 2000 incidents per day to keep the roads clear. Firstly does the Highways Agency have any legal powers to block the road like this and if so they really have been stupid, people just turn off the slip road, go across the island or junction and back on to the slip road and rejoin the motorway.

    Yes, we can. We have a number of legal powers available to us in the course of doing our jobs. One of which is to stop traffic should there be a need for it and it is mandatory under UK law that you obey the instructions of a traffic officer in full uniform. We also have a high level of knowledge of our local network and will not stop a block in an area where it would endanger any crews working in the road.

    Some of the Highways Agency Traffic Officers (HATOs) really do cause more problems than they prevent when attending incidents. Also When using your light bar in the dark hours, remember to switch it onto low intensity to Stop blinding other motorists.

  • @JaydonSmith01

    @JaydonSmith01

    Just so you know, they are now Highways England Traffic Officers (HETOs) and have been for a number of years. And unfortunately not all light bars are fitted with a low power mode, and some employers fail to fit the option to do so into their vehicles if it is there. Luckily 9 times out of 10 HETOs do turn down the power at night but that isn't always the case.
