Kiwi here. Man, that is an excellent performance from the Scots, I’d love to see them in a WC Final in ‘19. That rolling maul at the end is an excellent example of basic team play that wins matches, I could see Scotland capturing the hearts of the tournament. Bring on 2019!

Huw Jones after 11 caps is already one of our greatest ever Centers. Just look at who he has scored tries against. 3 against Australia, 2 against England and 1 against the NZ. At 18 he moved to South Africa and quickly started ripping up their league. He was joint top try scorer in the South Africa in 2016 and scored 2 tries to win his side the league final in 2017. After 5 years in South Africa where he became one of the best players in South African rugby he came back home this November to sign for Glasgow Warriors. If he is this good right now for us just imagine how good he is going be for Scotland when he starts playing alongside his Scotland Center partner Alex Dunbar(who is also a very good player) at Glasgow on weekly basis. We may well end up having on of the center partnership's in the world. I knew from when I first clapped eyes on him what a special player he could be when he scored 2 tries and also prevented an Australian try to win match of the match despite being on the losing side in only his second appearance for Scotland last year. Over the past 12 months I have become even more convinced of his abilities and having watched some of his highlights in the South African league it would not surprise me if he is regarded as the best center in the world very soon.

No Lee Jones is from Selkirk, Huw Jones is English. I’m delighted to get the win and the game had a great atmosphere. But it is disappointing to see so many non home grown players in the team. I make that 9 in the starting XV alone. Is this a sustainable policy for the future?

Huw Jones is Scottish. He was born here and then moved to England as a child and went to School there before moving to South Africa. He has no English parentage so is no more English than he is South African. He can qualify to play for England as he lived there for over 5 years in the same way he can qualify to play for South Africa but that doesn't mean he is English.

  • @TheFrazzzzzz

No I think he is English. He only lived in Scotland for a bit as his parents were teaching at Watson’s in Edinburgh. But the point is he isn’t a product of the Scottish rugby system. Don’t get me wrong I love seeing him play for us!

Wales took on Australia and got slaughtered. Scotland almost shocked NZ but a mistake in final minute saw NZ narrowly avoid humiliation. This week. Scotland slaughtered Australia. Wales kept near NZ in points but were always the weaker side the majority of the match. Do love Wales but something needs to change. IMO, they need to spend more time on tactics instead of fitness. Need to be faster getting the ball out the ruck.

g-zes Deuce it’s a change in world rugby though, no longer does the Southern Hemispheres dominate, but Scotland getting stronger it only builds us as a United Kingdom stronger. Hopefully we (Scotland) keep improving and getting stronger. Wales Ireland and England have always been the stronger sides but now Scotland can compete it can only be good for us all. Unless it’s the six nations of course.

Laidlaw getting injured was the best thing to happen to us for a long time. Whilst not the best of players his goal kicking was so great it was very hard to drop him meaning the far superior player Alli Price never got his chance. Right from the Wales game he showed what a quality player he is and now we have a quality scrum half we are brilliant at resetting and attacking after the breakdown. For the six nations I would play Hogg at full back, Russell at Fly Half, Jones and Dunbar in the center, Price at Scrum Half with Seymour on one of the wings with either Visser, Maitland or McGuigan (who was phenomal today) taking the other slot. Finn Russell may not be quite as good at goal kicking as Laidlaw but Ali Price is the far superior scrum half and should start ahead of Laidlaw. For the forwards I would play Ryan Wilson at Number 8 with Hamish Watson and John Barclay as the flankers and the Gray brothers as the locks. I would then play either Brown or Mcinally as Hooker with Marfo and Fragerson as props. Good enough to win the six nations in my opinion.

Couldn't agree more! Looks like we have a great team for the 6 nations! I also think Jamie Bhatti is a quality sub for Scotland and having Greg Laidlaw will be good as he is far more experienced than a lot of the players and in my eyes is still a god.

Spot on! Price been a revelation. Much faster ball and quicker on his feet. Dunbar is one of our most underrated players absolute machine at the breakdown and does so much work off the ball. Was worried we would miss him today actually. I think this could be our year to rip the 6 nations and having england at home is great in aiding that. Also please not Maitland I don't get the hype around him at all, Jones Visser both better and McGuigan was class today as well

Well said! The gulf has massively closed in terms of how we fare up against SA and the Aussies, but the AB's are still miles ahead of everyone at club level and internationally. It would be so good if we could centralise the sport the way they have. New Zealand is literally a continuous conveyor belt of world class players... union is not a "posh sport" in NZ that it still is in many other nations. In Scotland, England , even in Australia, union is still very much a middle and upper-class sport at the professional level... it just means our talent pools are much shallower

Team for six nations if everyone is fit: Backs: Full Back: Hogg Fly Half: Russell Scrum Half: Price Center: Dubar and Jones Wing: Seymour and Maitland/McGuigan/Visser Forwards Number 8: Strauss/Wilson Flankers: Barclay and Watson Locks: Gray Brothers Props: Fragerson and Reid Hooker: McInally/Brown That's 8 current Glasgow Warrior players - 10 if you include Wilson and Brown who even if they are not first choice will play a big part. The 10 of them playing together on a weekly basis from now to the six nations will give our side such great chemistry and unity and if they continue their winning ways a lot of confidence. Also the fact that all of them apart from Jones played under Townsend means not only do they have a working relationship with him but they also understand how to play the style he wants to play and all the methods, tactics and tricks he has to win a game which will be so important to us having a great six nations. Then you also have McGuigan, Maitland, Strauss, Barclay, Richie Gray and Reid who all played for Glasgow at some point whilst Townsend was in charge. We also have McInally, Watson, Marfo, Nel, Gilchrist, Toolis and Du Preez who are all likely to play some part (especially McInally and Watson who will likely start) who are all current Edinburgh team mates and Visser who played there from 2010 to 2015 which will be good for team spirit, chemistry and unity. Unlike England, France and Wales all our players know, play and win with each other on a regular basis which will only be good for the national side and give us a huge advantage going into the six nations.

Yep! I'd agree, that's a team that will inflict some damage... And the great thing is that the replacements are up to speed and fit in seamlessly. Can't wait for those first round matches in Feb! Something I'd point out that hasn't really been picked up on in the aftermath of our autumn tests... The form of Tommy Seymour.... He just didn't seen to be his usual confident blistering self and made a few rather costly errors... Still solid enough but, We really could do with him being up to speed with the rest of the guys and terrorising the opposition during the 6N.

There is at least a hope that "les bleus (foncés)" can win the VI Nations tournament ! ;-) Scots have played the most generous and ambitious rugby for a decade. Now they are in position to beat the best teams. Be sure they have numerous supporters in France, particularly when they meet England !

The Australian coach's comments (especially aftermatch) is an embarrassment to Australian rugby. Australian rugby deserves much better. Give Larkham the job, not only was he a great player, I believe him to be a far better coach than the present one.

I agree with you Dave. Cheika is always blaming someone else for their losses. OR he'll pin-point one moment in the game to bitch about. Aussie Rugby needs change....start with the coach. BUT, suppose they won't until after Japan 2019.

Scotland are 9/1 to win the 6 Nations outright on Paddy Power. If I was a Scot I'd be taking that bet; at the very least put a bet down that they'll finish top 2. Their fixtures are set up the right way for it. Wales away, then France and England at home, then Ireland away and finally taking on Italy in Rome.

  • @aidanmcgunnigal9394

Conor Murphy We can certainly make top 3. If we were Playing Ireland at Home I would say we were favourites. Id say the table would look like this: England Scotland/Ireland Scotland/Ireland France Wales Italy I think England wont win a grandslam though, I think they might be beaten by Scotland at Murrayfield, and the only way I can see Scotland winning the championship is if they win that game and beat Ireland away.

If Scotland don't make top 3 in the 6 Nations then I'd say the campaign would be considered a failure. They've made steady progress over the past couple of years and it's time to do it at tournament level. The issue they have is all their big games come straight away; no Italy in there to give key players a little rest. Gotta wonder what shape their squad will be in when they come to Dublin.
