there was also the Seatle vs Portalnd game...that was sold out..it was 2013 and clint dempsey made his debut for SEA. Was a very good game too...but the crowd made it amazing.

Hi I'm from France (AJ Auxerre fan) and when I see those highlights I must say it looks like this game was very exciting with lots of spectacular opportunities. And Kansas City stadium is really magnificent. It reminds me of British stadiums and that's the way I love them. The crowd is excellent too. Everything looks great! However it's a shame that the final isn't played in a neutral place like it should be.

We could consider moving the final to a neutral stadium. But it's up to the league's owners. We're also debating the promotion/relegation system.

America is way too big for that. It used to be held at a pre-determined site until 2012, but the crowds and atmosphere were just awful. They decided to give it to the team that finishes the season with the most points out of the two to make the regular season worth more, and to help create a better atmosphere.

I'm really happy to say that because of this game and season, I've now become a new fan of soccer! So happy for Sporting KC! Thanks for bringing the state of Missouri another Championship!

How about this. Thank you for bringing Kansas City another trophy. Doesn't matter what side of the border the stadium is on, its Sporting KANSAS CITY, not Kansas, not Missouri, and there is many supporters from the whole 4 state area(Kansas, Missouri, Iowa, Nebraska). That said I know that there are Missourians who know no longer like it because it is on the Kansas side, but just the minority who cant let the civil war go. Congrats Sporting KANSAS CITY!

***** SKC plays in Kansas but the offices located in downtown KC, MO and training ground are also in KCMO. So both are right. So technically it is a championship for Missouri and Kansas.

Sou brasileiro e fico muito feliz em ver que os americanos estão se interessando mais pelo futebol (ou como vocês chamam: soccer) e melhorando a sua liga, não ligue para os europeus eles são uns esnobes. Talvez algum dia times da MLS sejam convidados para a a Copa Libertadores da América do Sul da mesma maneira que os times mexicanos da Liga MX também são.

I've always been a casual fan of MLS (my adopted BPL team is my main soccer fix), but I remember being totally enthralled by this game as it aired. I've followed the league super closely this year (rooting for my local Revs) as a result, and I definitely recommend that anyone who calls themselves a footy fan in the US do the same. Yes, the overall quality isn't world class, but it's not bad (better than Ligue 1 I'd say), and there are plenty of guys who can put on a show (Dempsey, Higuain, Nguyen, etc.). And if the occasional brain farts out there get too annoying, at least you can get a good laugh at it every now and then.

MLS tends to be higher scoring and thats what i like about that. not a lot of 0-0 draws, 1-0 games or 1-1 draws, lots of good 4-2, 5-4 games etc. still don't like the draw system as us Americans are used to overtimes and shootouts in sports. we want a winner lol

One hell of an MLS Cup final. That shootout was unbelievable. Both teams had their shots to win in regular time and in extra time. God was smiling down on Jimmy Neilsen and SKC on this day though.

The two best teams in the MLS no doubt. Amazing game and great effort by both teams, especially in the freezing cold. Thank you RSL for a great season.

I gotta admit KC futbol fans are nuts I got to catch a game out there visiting some friends ,and I though Galaxy and Red Bulls fans were nuts.The timbers are great fans too You never see fans rushing the field anymore it's nice to see give US sports a shot in the arm.That and it you look at attendance records Futbol(soccer) games are starting inch up or even surpass hockey and Basketball games......I never thought I'd see the day,and I love it!!!

The reason mls is gaining popularity is because of the FIFA game franchise. I believe this is in two parts. When FIFA games first came out, more kids started saying "hey, this sport looks fun, I'm going to try it". Some pof these kids are most likely mls players today, making their friends and family fans of the sport. Second, kids that play it are then wanting to see the games in real life, so they convince their parents to go to, making possible another 3+ fans.

This game was awesome, and I hope people around the world were watching, or saw the highlights. This game shows how much the game has grown in the United States, and that Americans are becoming more and more passionate about the sport. I loved the fact that Real Salt Lake brought enough fans to have their own section in the stadium. That's what I love about soccer games; that the away fans arent intermingled within the home fans. Instead, they have their own section. Call me weird, I don't care lol.

Really great final. Took a half to real get them to warm up and come out of the shell but after half time it was a burner. The crowd and the stadium provided an exquisite backdrop as well adding to the drama.

The better team was RSL. I guess the venue of the finals is determined before the start of the season because its weird that one team is playing at home for a cup final.

***** Nope. RSL had way more chances, dominated the entire game, except for a few late shots at goal from SKC. Thats a very poor way to decide the venue. No wonder it continues to command little interest throughout the Americas.

Uh, yeah. The team with the better regular season record gets to host the final. Which is kind of a "Duh."

I was a nervous wreck during the game! Then in the penalties I almost had a heart attack! Go Sporting!!! So awesome!!

I loved this final.

Great game! Tremendous seasons for both teams. Congrats to Salt Lake and especially KC. Such a great story for KC and their remarkable turnaround. I don't care what some people may say about penalties deciding games, I think they're awesome! Again, congrats KC! From a Redbulls fan.

I was rooting for Real Salt Lake until I heard Grandpa Nielsen had 15 years without winning a championship, so i kinda felt bad for him lol wooooo I'm glad they won.

Anyone notice on the final penalty how the ball moved, could've have been retakened🤔

Now win the Championship League so MLS can one day be in the Copa Libertadores. Hopefully Bieler will stick around and Vermes will play him more/larger than Dwyer. I will be very angry if SKC let a good player like that slip from a team that has potential of achieving more success.

Fill Wrauss I think Bieler will be fine as long as the SKC players stop passing the ball to him in the air like he's Kamara and Sapong. With Dom Dwyer talking about leaving MLS for a second division England team, SKC will need Bieler more than ever.

10 year anniversary of this and decided to come back and watch it. If you would of told me where Sporting KC would be at today back then I wouldn't of believed you. We need that feeling of winning the league again very badly.

This was a great final as I predicted, both really good, hard working teams. Hopefully it's the same case next year with two hard working teams.

Exactly what MLS needed to help keep growing and gaining momentum: A dramatic, edge-of-your-seat championship. Looks like I'll be trying to catch a game in Chester this year!

two years ago, all three trophies were in the west, and this year, they're all in the east.

This was a classic. I went to the 2012 final, and I hope the Galaxy get that far again! Should be a great season all around!

Amazing game! Both teams did a great job and only one could come out the winner. Obviously both teams were equally match that it went so long. Either team could have won it, but I am glad SKC won.

It's because this isn't truly a Cup final, it's a League final. It makes sense and gives the season importance. This is a league with playoffs and playoffs should be handled differently from Cup tournaments or Champions Leagues. Now you can try to argue whether playoffs belong in a league, but this is America and they aren't going away. Belgium has playoffs too and I wish our system were more like theirs. But it isn't and this is the next best thing.

No, because it used to be that way and it sucked. Nobody went and the people that did go didn't really give a shit. If you host it at one of the finalists' stadiums, then it'll be better attended, and the fans will actually care because their team is in the final. It also gives more meaning to the regular season because the finalist that finishes higher in the standings gets to host.

I thought RSL would win but it was close even though I am a liga MX fan

Give it up for Sporting KC. They fought all night long and battled in the midst of tough circumstances against an equally good RSL team. Would've been interesting to see the outcome if it was PTFC against Sporting KC, but alas, still a great match to watch all the same. 2014 MLS season will be an awesome one to look forward to! RCTID!
