This show had one of the most incredible sets I've ever seen. The enormous gold mansion set was mind blowing enough just by itself, but at one point they RAISED that set about ten feet on hydraulics to show another scene occurring simultaneously below it. Add to that a full scale car chase on stage and a giant recreation of the Paramount lot.. just crazy. I have no idea how they were able to cram all that scenery in the wings and flys.

I’ve read that fantastic set was one of the reasons that this show had difficulty in recouping it’s cost - especially when they tried to take it on tour.

HIGHLY RECOMMEND TO ALL BROADWAY FANS WHO WERE BORN IN 1994 should go see this magnificent revival before it departs June 25th 😀

ohiofan1989 Personally I do not think Glen is the best singe of the group, but she is the only one who made me think she was Norma Desmond. She got the acting portion of it better. Its one of the few time ALW went for someone who was a stronger actor then singer and it worked. That's my take on it anyways.

+dohaperson1 In the story, Norma IS a has-been. Glenn Close or Elaine Page would be great.

There was no plastic surgery like this or botox in 1950. Watch the original movie and you'll see how good Gloria Swanson looked at 50 naturally. Close and Paige look like melting wax statues which would be funny when the line about the waxworks is spoken! They look like freaks....they both look too old, just stretched. Besides, let's not immortalize Close's bad singing in a movie please...

+dohaperson1 I am very familiar with the original movie and how good Gloria Swanson looked (mostly do to Max Factor and optimum lighting)...Curious who you would suggest then for the role ? Let's see - Glenn won a Tony for her "bad singing" performance and is being "immortalized" again doing Sunset Boulevard on the London stage in Spring 2016.

Close is undoubtedly a great actress, but she's a bad singer. In the movie, there is a magnified view of Swanson's face and there isn't a single wrinkle and the skin is supple and not stretched from plastic surgery like Close. Close is about 68 now and is almost 20 years too old for the role. I would suggest waiting a few years when Cahterine Zeta-Jones is 50. She can sing, act and looks the part. Everyone was just star struck that someone as famous from the movies like Close starred in a Broadway show, but the fact is she couldn't sing. Now, she's too old and freaky looking.

Julianne Hannes Soundtrack? OH Cast album. I love Alice, but Judy Pocahontas Kuhn (as her friends call her ;) ) has one of the best voices in the industry.

EricMontreal22 do her friends really call her 'Judy Pocahontas Kuhn'? haha BTW: Why didn't she go on to Broadway? I was disappointed to learn recently that she was replaced with Alice Ripley? Not that I have anything against Ripley, but I'd always assumed that the 'American Premiere Recording' was the OBCR.

+Eddie Plummer Judy Kuhn didn't take the show to Broadway. She originated it in California and when most of the cast transferred Alice Ripley took the role.

I disagree. Glenn Close originated the role. Anyone who came later was a distant second place. I also saw Betty Buckley in the role, and I was disappointed by her portrayal.

Imagine putrid, Harvey Weinstein adoring, Meryl Streep playing Norma Desmond. I can’t either. Not even close. Glenn Close has real talent. To know how really bad Streep’s talent is, read what a real first wave feminist like Katherine Hepburn said about Streep’s acting abilities. Spoiler, not good.
