@@DrissZyanisorrybutyourtimeisfi The be honest, winning the world cup did the Ferns no favours. Everyone jumped on the bandwagon that the ferns were back in their rightful place, ignoring the fact that you played against 14 players for 63 minutes and still only scraped over the line. There still hasn't been an honest assessment of NZ women's rugby and a plan of how to move forwards. Unless you can get parity with the English, French and Canadian forwards you will always face an uphill battle. Don't blame the coaches, they only get to work with the players the system produces. Aupeki is great to watch, with lots of attacking rugby, but it doesn't produce those battle-hardened forwards that win you the ball and it's completely devoid of the strategic kicking that determine where the game is played. You only have to look at the WXV game from last year. The Fern's forwards were chewed up at spat out. Whilst the Ferns had a couple of moments in the game where their flair stood out, they couldn't impose themselves on the game for long enough. It's why the coaches have selected, I believe, 12 props in their contracted squad. Until someone works out how to develop the forwards you need, it's going to be difficult. In the short term, I'd be identifying a dozen, or so, of the younger players and encouraging them to spend the off season in England or France.

I'd like an explanation as to why the try decision was overturned after the conversion kick had been taken. This is not the first time I've seen this happen so presumably there is some additional regulation which countermands the initial rule that once a conversion is taken the try stands. Can someone clarify this please.

  • @ToheMangaMan

    @ToheMangaMan

    Ай бұрын

The obvious explanation is you are a "casual" Rugby fan. It has been like that for a number of years now......A try can be overturned upon review by the TMO, even if the conversion has been taken. The problem is with the TMO and the lack of consistency in applying the laws correctly. All tries, possible tries are reviewed. I'm sure the Black Ferns scored a try that was ignored. The TMO is a good idea but quite a few decisions have been controversial to say the least....in more games than I can list here.

Was at a relative's having a family meal 2 years ago, and my sister-in-law had a friend visiting. Her friend was an ex-pat who had married a Kiwi farmer and moved there. The conversation turned to rugby and she was bragging on the A.B.s and giving me a hard time about our men's team. My rebuttal was that the men's team might not be where we want it but the women's was pretty good, and she admitted that was true. Very nice to see the win and I'm happy for the girls. So saying, it wasn't the best game I've seen the Black Ferns play and not the best reffing I've seen in a game. Still, the Kiwi girls will be back and not every ref is Nigel Owens. By the way, my daughter played rugby in school, her buddy made the national team and my favourite team (by far) wears black, not red.

The frustration that i have watching our girls is when we are slow to clear the ball from phase or rucks, hence errors occur or we loose possession through pressure. when our reserve halfback came on we looked a lot better playing front football not giving the opposition time to set their defence. Sometimes a coach has to change his players if our game plan is not going to plan even if it’s early in the game, So the team can refocus on new objectives in achieving the outcome, example springboks replacement within 20 minutes of first halve, our last quarter of the game was more the game that is true to our DNA

I love the Blackferns and watch every game including the 7s but that was one of the worst performances I have seen from the girls. There was absolutely no organization or connection between the players apart from one inside ball that resulted in a try. Their pods were non existant, there was no flow and what seemed like confused communication with contiual players out of position. I have seen all these players in their regional teams play 1000% better than this. Even though Canada did play well and deserved to win it was evendent from the first 5 minutes of play that the Blackferns were in a strange place ... Not sure why they wear those white jerseys but get back in black and maybe that Mana will rise again. Maybe bunts is experimenting who knows but that was a failed attempt. ..There was signs of DNA in the last few minutes , but that wont win games.

It's up front you've struggled. having watched the aupeki matches, I don't see where the "grunt" is going to come from to give you the parity of possession you need to compete with the English and French. Swapping players in and out of the 2 programmes (7's&15's) is a distraction.

Canada never looked like last week's US team either (having put 50 points on them in their first game)- they were #3 for good reason (pushing France down to 4th)- our focus is the 2025 World Cup in England- Pac 4 and the subsequent 15 months are opportunities to improve player performance/strategies/tactics, especially in developing young and inexperienced players- I am pretty sure if we were to meet Canada in August/September 2025 it would be a completely different game

Not the best analogy. Ice hockey is a tiny sport here and major sport in Canada whereas as women’s rugby is a minor sport in both countries so far more even. Canada has been close to NZ for quite a few years now. It was only a matter of time.

hahahahaha What a ridiculous imagination you have. Imagine if NZ put a man on the moon next year and USA don't. That'll never happen either. Canada has been competitive at top international level for many a year. To compare them defeating NZ to NZ Women's Ice Hockey playing Canada is nonsense. Go and do some homework.

Why do you comment in such a cheeky demeanor??? Is it because in reality you wished that nz won and the only way to disguise your anguish is to belittle their effort & result or is it you just hate the Blackferns success and have been waiting for this moment for so long??? Well anyways whatever it is congrats to the Canadians on their well deserved win you guys have come a long way & rightfully deserve the No.2 spot on the world rankings and to the Blackferns heads up girls you guys are still a young squad with a lot of new faces still developing combinations in this new look BF system, this loss will only help you guys in experience going forward.

Very impressed by the Canadian defence, our girls couldn't match their enthusiasm and i was a bit puzzle by some of our selections, have to admit that the best team won ... just a side note, we don't (men and womens) seem to go well in white or grey ... isn't black our colour ??

It was part of World Rugby's response to colour blindness. Black and Red can be confusing for those with the problem. The shirts in international matches have to have a contrast.

There's a long-standing tradition in international rugby that if the difference between the teams' kit isn't blazingly apparent and could possibly be confused by someone who's maybe not great with colours glancing with her peripheral vision, as is the case with black and dark red, the visiting team wears their usual kit and the hosts will use an alternate. Because rugby is about being a good host. Watch any games between NZ and France, or NZ and Scotland, or France and Scotland, or Wales and Tonga, etc., and you'll see the home team wearing "wrong" colours.

I'm not sold on this one off running by the Black Ferns. They might as well play Rugby League. This is exactly what the All Blacks did when the Irish won that series in NZ. One off rugby and they got picked off by the Irish forwards. The BFerns lost to the French and the Roses last year doing the same stuff. It's frustrating to watch knowing what they are capable of. I'd love to see King at 10 and the captain at 12 and put Brunt on the bench, and maybe a positional swap between Tui and Paul if Holmes is not available. Have you all noticed all the Canadians best are all 7s players. Just an observation. I would love to see J. Miller and a few others in the BFs.

Not all the best Canadian players play 7's. Sophie is a latecomer to 7's. No other forward plays. More backs play, Apps, Bermudez, and others but Canada's best back, Tessier does not.

@@scottstrapp603The Captain who played 7s was the best player in my opinion. The half back and the 14 who scored 2 tries were also 7s players. That's what I was referring to. Take nothing away from the whole Canadian team, they were great but those players in my observation stood out, and 13 Seumanutafa was exceptional.

The NZ team got enough territory and possession to win that game twice over but their game management, accuracy and patience when in the oppositions 22 was lamentable. The knock ons and forward passes on attack showed a tremendous lack of composure and when the Canadians simply hung and refused to go away, the Black Ferns melted under the pressure. When with just minutes left on the clock ,the ball was kicked twice back to the opponents beggars belief. The Canadians on the other hand who dont forget were amateurs up against professionals, simply simply stuck to their game plan, keeping their error rate low and ran out deserved winners. Their first ever win against NZ and, to labour the point, against a team being paid. I hope this is the reality check the team needs because they will be playing England at Twickenham in September and if they play like that , the English will embarrass them.

The Canadian 15's players aren't contracted by Rugby Canada but there are some 7s players in there that are full-time athletes, like Olivia Apps.... also, over half of the squad are full-time professional rugby players in the English and french domestic competitions.

Tight match. Both teams blooding new players, which is good to see. Canada’s scrum half had a stinker. Too much arm flapping and complaining, not enough tackles, but a dumb yellow card. Odd to see the White Ferns when there was no jersey colour conflict, but World Rugby works in mysterious ways. An upset is good for the game. Makes life more interesting.

The Blackferns thought the Canadian Ladies would be easy beats- To many errors by the Home team and the Refereeing was shocking,,she disallowed a Canadian try after the conversion had been taken because the TMO had spotted a infringement ..I thought once the conversion was kicked and had gone over the crossbar the try stands..The Canadian team played great rugby-their Forward Pack was awesome ,their Backline was to slick for the B/Fs..Now the Canadians are second with England at number one and the B/Fs drop down to 3rd..The B/Fs will have to come up with something special when the world cup comes around, maybe a recall on some of the B/Fs 7s girls and Wayne Smith could be the answer....😗.

The BF didn’t think that at all. When BF’s came off the paddock in Ottawa last year they looked battered even though the score may have suggested otherwise. Canada also had a good WXV1 campaign last year as well with wins over France and Wales. Canada absolutely had a great game and not forgetting this is still largely an amateur side, which makes it all the more fantastic for the Canadian team. We can’t keep relying on the BF 7’s girls when things aren’t going our way every time a RWC comes around. This would be detrimental to both codes in the long run IMHO.

    1. Did you watch any of the previous Canada games? of course not, otherwise you'd have seen what BFs coaching team would have seen- they were ranked #3 for a reason pushing France down to 4th; 2. paraphrased " they thought they were 'easy beats'", I guess that's how you think but I guarantee not even the younger Black Ferns have fallen into that primary school thinking, smh!; 3. re. the disallowed try- the rule changed in July 2022 "should the broadcaster provide an angle after a conversion takes place but before the restart has been taken, that clearly shows an infringement has taken place, then the TMO/referee should use the video referral process to deal with the infringement" is the TMO guideline that governs that; 4. that being said, the legitimate Black Ferns try should have been given- ref was on the wrong side of the ruck and asst ref never ran into the try zone for a rear angle either (as they both did for the disallowed Canada try) but just as we saw live, the TMO had time before play continued and should have alerted the ref; 5. more obstruction issues- Canada obstructed multiple times none of which were called- that may be something their coaching staff are still ironing out as their setup for secondary receivers in those situations is still not fluid enough- as it happens BFs are much better at that but the speed at recycling balls after rucks was much too slow (point of technique- scrum halves should practice passing direct from the base of the ruck without first taking a few steps which also requires better back row protection from the opposing #9); 6. recall? different time, different circumstances, cant get hung up on what worked previously for a number of reasons- all women's national teams have improved since the October 2022 World Cup (2 x European Cup February 2023 and April 2024; 2 x 6 Nations March and April 2023/2024; both USA and Canada in Spain March 2023; multiple Women's Internationals with 20+ nations May/June/July/September/November/December 2023; WXV 1, 2, and 3 October/November 2023; Womens Africa Cup last week) plus just as the BF7s have been working in new young players so are the 15s side- THAT is progress not recalling stuff from 2 years previous- our focus is the World Cup next year in the UK which means players/strategies/tactics etc are still works in progress... jus saying...
