    Thank you for your videos. You are one of my top accounting KZread influencers! Do you have a recommendation on the best first job out of college for new accountants at a public accounting firm? Do you think Auditing is the best first job or consulting? The consulting opportunity is a Finance and Accounting Outsourcing role (big focus on AP/AR, NetSuite, technology, accounting lifecycle, etc.). For long-term career goals, I think Financial Analyst, Assistant Controller, or Audit Manager. Which first job do you think gives new graduates the best foundation? Thank YOU!

    Both opportunities are fabulous and will set you up nicely. The only distinction is that if you want to become a CPA audit is going to be the route to go. But even still, you can ask the hiring team in consulting whether the experience will qualify you for CPA

    Take a role as an auditor for a few years! I worked at a local firm and had roughly 40 clients a year. That forced me to become comfortable talking with strangers, asking tough questions, and remembering names. I'm still so so with the last one, but my communication skills have landed me a great job as a senior accountant at one of the largest companies in the world! 😁 Big 4 is great too but leverage the skills you have to fill the role you want!

    Being a good manager is important too. There are two many accountants who are poor managers. There are those who still think it's appropriate to threaten people with their jobs, are very agressive, humiliate people, even in front of others. Set impossible tasks even without agreeing/informing a team member beforehand, then, repeatedly hassle them remind them. Also the advent of new software, is at risk of leaving the younger generation not knowing how to fix an issue, or how to do it in alternative ways, as they are reliant on data sources and methods such as queries.

    Hello, I appreciate for your videos. May I ask you one simple question? If you are on 3~5 years of your career and in a senior accountant position of mid-sized firm, will you take an offer from small company (like 15~20 employees) as accounting manager with higher salary? or will you stay, learn more and make a move to bigger company's manager level? More general question will be, is it beneficial to be in charge of accounting department in small company where they don't receive audit, or learn several parts of accounting in mid sized company? Thank you!

  • @TheFinancialController

    @TheFinancialController

    3 жыл бұрын

    Smaller companies are lots of fun, but I am afraid 15-20 headcount is too small. I prefer you go to a 50+ headcount company. Unless that 15-20 one has a killer product and will be a rocketship ride. If Money is the bigger motivator, don't go to small companies (sub 100 employees). But if you want to combine money with a bit of fun engaging work, you pickup a couple of ~50 HC along the way
