My God Ingrid….. Do you ever stop?,?!🥇 You just keep cranking ‘‘em out 🥰🏆 Im a dormant musician ( hiding from myself) all dressed up with no place to go so to speak. Trapped in my own prison of self doubt and criticism despite my years of training, impassioned refusal to quit, yet seemingly unable to get through that wall of insurmountable noise in my head that says ….. Just do it! Forget how it sounds in the beginning.Nobody cares. Nobody is sitting in a chair right behind you in your studio making judgements as to your worthiness to exist as a writer. ( If you’re an artist of any kind, you know exactly what I’m talking about ) But ever since I found this Norwegian band called HIGHASAKITE🥰 something has happened to my sense of what it means to …….”Just do it!” 🐝 I listen to you almost every day. Never have I listened to someone so much, so often, and never gotten tired of it. There’s a very particular swath of your songs that I put at the top of the bell curve. ( Usually those that I feel you excel at the most. Those which are most musical in their structure, tending to lean heavily on your well honed talent at getting the most out of using extensive Eventide or other top notch Harmonizing, chorusing and reverb to give your sound a warm, lush, wide “ wall of sound” feel that envelops the listener in the experience of being carried away in a hypnotic state of bliss while listening to the lyrics of your colorful writing style about the various themes of life experience that you so poetically paint. As with so many others , who “get it” around the the saying ….. behind the eyes of every artist is a tortured soul. That’s why I took on the username in so many of my various online accounts of “War of Art” ( as opposed to the Art of War) as battling our creative self recriminations can be a formidable ask. But a battle that must be waged, every day nonetheless. …… I borrowed the name from the title of a short book that goes by the same name written by a famous novelist who wrote “ The legend of Bagger Vance” and several others novels that have nothing to do with this rather short incisive no bullshit primmer of a roadmap or manual on the realities of dealing with that little voice in our heads that does us absolutely no favors, as it lays out the realities of what it is exactly that separates the true master of their creativity versus those who forever stay shackled to the asylum of the ordinary. Rather forever stuck in what often feels like the paralysis of finding it near impossible to sit down in the chair every day,….day after day,… and write…..Good, bad or indifferent,….. but to nonetheless,…just write,…as, even though so many ideas may get filed in “ the round basket”….. eventually, a lotus flower of sorts is eventually born that can through hard work, be shaped and molded into something extraordinary and beautiful. Every time I listen to my library of your of hat I feel to be your best pieces of work, I know for certain that these didn’t just come into being as some sort of finished masterpiece wrapped up in a bow, that got magically ingratiated into an invite to perform them at the Nobel Peace Prize Concert,…. where only excellence is asked to perform for such a highly esteemed event. They are all pieces that started out like any other lump of clay, on the same playing field of “ ordinary” with nothing more than a few chords, and a set of endless decisions to will them into something remarkable, trying idea after idea, day after day, making decisions at each turn, trusting your muse to make the right decisions at each step of the way. But you engage in the grind to create these masterpieces. I so admire that about you in your music. It shows up like the blinding light of the sun in all of your work. I feel honored to enjoy the fruits of your exceedingly creative process. It gives me hope and strength to believe that if I just listen to my muse ( the devil incarnate👺) , and stop listening to all of the noise of “normal”, I can find the fortitude and strength to get my ass up every day and “ sit down in the chair” and start writing again. After all, it the only thing I’ve ever really cared about…..my music. I’ve had several successful careers with some awful setbacks in life, …. Mostly because I wasn’t in the space of living with my muse every day as I was born to, but rather living in the world of” what’s supposed to be in the world of socially “responsible people”. But I don’t really do well in that world a s I don’t find any sense of self or any sense of accomplishment, or progress in my own development. I’ve seen all of your interview videos and studio videos as you’re writing. I can see the work you put into slogging it out day after day to create such beautifully crafted pieces of music. I admire it beyond most anything else as you turn the otherwise ordinary into extraordinary by knowing how, and having the gift of impeccable judgement as to your willingness to experiment with technology to allow you to create a sound of “immersive expansion” that transports the listener to another “ otherworldly place” as they listen to you express yourself so colorfully. One day, I truly hope to meet you as I travel my path down the road of happy destiny. What a trip that would be! In the mean time, you and Tron, and the gang, keep on keeping on🤗…..and don’t ever lose the core of who you are in your writing style. Those lush sounds and beautiful chord changes that so magically embellish your creative and thoughtful lyrics. Those sounds , that harmonizing, the creative bowed violin, the long tailed reverberated electric guitar atmospheres, the flugabone, and mellatron, all play their part in making HIGHASAKITE the band that is like no other! Sweet music! Cheers and good health to you All!, Patrick Dunn Chicago,USA
