A busy level crossing found in the middle of Highams Park, a London suburb in the Borough of Waltham Forest near Walthamstow. A total of 5 separate lowerings are featured in this video of this level crossing, which has a total of 6 LED wigwags as well as two rather unique, very screechy-sounding alarms which are each really quite loud. At the time of filming, four brand new barriers, each made in 2021, had only recently been installed at this level crossing. A former signal box which overlooks this level crossing still remains, yet this has been done-up and preserved. This signal box was built in 1928, and saved from demolition in 2002, now leased to the local Signal Box association. It's one of the few that survive on this line to this day, although it is out of use.
All lowerings feature London Overground's fairly new Class 710 Bombardier 'Aventura' trains which phased out much older units in recent years. These provide an every-15-minute service for each direction between Chingford and London Liverpool Street. The timetable here is very nicely-staggered and arranged, as there's rarely more than 6-8 minutes at most between lowerings of the barriers here (without delays), and the barriers don't usually remain lowered for more than one train at a time.
Thanks for watching!

Thanks very much!
They just ( Aug '22) installed a new track and pedestrian walkway at this crossing. It has a very ingenious plate which fills in the gap between the rails and walkway to make the walking area contiguous. This plate is somehow spring loaded and depressed by the train wheel flanges as the train passes by. I've never seen this idea before anywhere in the world. Anyone know what this system is called and how it works ? Might be worth a vid.

i used to live very close to this, literally ten mins away, there was no contiguous walkway when I was a kid, going across the tracks scared the sh1t out of me. i prefered the subway. glad they got a footbridge here too.
How many trains does this line get all day?

The estimate for a typical day is somewhere in the region of 150 in total going to and coming from Chingford according to Network Rail
