OK, so maybe this isn't the long-form documentary I promised last year after releasing this teaser: • Video
Don't spark up your trombone just yet. This is 10 minutes of fun flying in the northern Nevada desert, following bush pilot Kevin Quinn and a small group into several makeshift airstrips that push the limits of aircraft performance and pilot judgement. It's also meant to give you an idea what the experience of camping on the playa is like with a large and diverse group of backcountry flying enthusiasts. All footage was shot in October 2013 during the fly-in weekend.
We've jokingly called it a "Burning Man" for airplane junkies, but it's got everything you care about: Bush planes, wide-open backcountry landing zones, campfires, guns, explosions, and a free t-shirt. And it's family friendly.

Pure awesome! Where do I sign up to fly with you guys! This is great on all levels - amazing flying and brilliant film making! Well done!

Thank you very much, I enjoy your channel as well!
I don't know how many times I have watched this or shown it to someone. Love it!!
Absolutely gorgeous...
I love the stories you tell in your videos
steveo1kinevo, flightchops, and backcountry pilot, you're the best aviation youtuber. this video is so well done. keep on giving us some beatifull film like this one. cheers from france
Spectacular.
You are such a good film maker and writer. Love all your AV videos!
Enjoyed this! That near head-on was a bit spooky, as was the big bouncer at the 9000+ altitude spot. The timelapse and RC multicopter footage were sweet additions too. You've got a great touch selecting and editing to the music.
Your best work yet...great footage and music/commentary. Always look fwd to your vids. Cheers Gary (Australia).
Dude, I could watch hours and hours of that stuff! Great flying and awesome footage.
Kevin Quinn, genius pilot!
Of all the videos that captured the previous and later high sierra's, this video best exemplifies the real essence of the adventure of comradely of the experience. That has been diluted somewhat by the popularization of the event over the last few years.
Wow ! Great documentary, feels like I am there. Like the drone work, making coffee in the morning, the different airplanes etc. Keep up the good work.
Wow, amazing once again ! Great work ! Respect from France
Loved it!!!
Awesome images and edit
this is studio production quality. Nice Job! Bush flying is real flying.
You are really good at shooting and producing your videos Mate! Thanks for sharing!
Brilliant!
This is just amazing. Brilliantly shot, well done! Man, what I'd give to be part of that adventure.
Awesome video! Excellent edit!!
Love the night shots...looks like nobody slept. Fun. I have a drone that I've not flown yet... Looks like a good mix of documenting a trip. Sold my PA-22, and just bought a Supercub 150 CUBBY (Wag Aero) and love it. Great photography. Highest I've ever had the controls was 13,000 feet to cross Wolf Creek Pass with 2000' to spare in TriPacer.
Love this!
Great video! More!
Love the drone shot at 7:00.
I really thought 321TL was going to roll up into a ball! Wow that was way too close to being a mess for my taste.
Excellent Video
Sweet vid
Great gathering, and great video......

Looking forward to taking some lessons from you!👍🏼👍🏼

The Maule was determined to get itself landed. Pretty good little plane.
Beautiful footage, cool planes cool places. at 9:57 there's a Lake amphibian in a quick pan - last thing I expected to see!
awesome video
awesome!!!! great video!!!! gotta get my ticket asap... keep doing this kind of vid please...
great song
AMAZING GUYS! You guys are awesome, really living the dream! Wish I could some day be a proud owner of a capable beast like those and join in those crazy voyages. In the mean time, I watch your videos with great appreciation and envyness, trying to imagine a rental C172 or P28 landing there. You truly inspired me to open up my horizons as a pilot.
I would absolutely watch a feature film of this. You should call some of the IMAX guys at Giant Screens Cinema Association to tag along!

Sounds like someone is hanging out with the fancy city folks :) Thanks for all the great work you do. Your videos are top notch and do an amazing job of capturing the experience and hopefully sparking that interest that keeps GA alive. You have saved me so much money investing in camera equipment, and so much time investing in learning how to shoot video that someone would actually want to watch!

Haha no way man it's awesome... I even like the super subtle puns and how you changed your voice in the one Canada video to be like "Kay needa"...lmao... i have been binge watching your videos all night... Just found out about you yesterday... I have a love of flying, never got the chance to finish getting my license (started classes back in the day).. But couldn't afford it after the 2008 recession (sighs). Small, ultralight, bush planes are my favorite... well, after Autogyros of course. Nothing beats an autogyro imho
8:10…oh shit!!!
@6:47, is that a Cessna? Also, I see two blade props and 3 blade props. What are the reasons/benefits of choosing one over the other? AWESOME video btw!
I think I've seen the silver and blue Cessna at 0:42 at the Chicken Strip before. You guys are so lucky.

That guy is from Colorado, but I'm not sure he owns that airplane anymore. I do know of a much nicer-looking polished/blue 170B that frequents the Chicken Strip.
Hello. nice, very very nice! What is that music at 4:30.
Try landing a 185 tail dragger on skis or beaver on our glaciers here in Alaska, or a cub on our wilderness mountains,etc...and wilderness gravel bars and dealing with our weather and remoteness! Get it???
6:08 how circle runways will work....
Would love to join in sometime.
I definitely need to start getting out of California...
What happened to your older carbon cub videos?!?
Wow that Maule landing was fucked up... Close to an accident
8:10 that’s why i prefer tricycle over classic gear.

Is that a glow plug igniter for a RC plane engine at 1:06?!
@BackcountryPilot
7 жыл бұрын
Ha! Similar. It's a piezoelectric igniter purpose-built for campstoves which creates an actual spark. I think RC glow plug chargers are just a battery-powered device that run a current through the glow plug resistor to get it hot.

Backcountry Pilot That's pretty much it. A more expensive cigarette lighter as far as how it works. Great video of course too. Always wanted to fly with Quinn too. Seems to be one hell of a pilot.

Absolutely an awesome stunning piece!. As someone who is trying to get into this field, I appreciate your work from all angles. I love the choice of music. Also, the camera work is superb. I can appreciate all of the different camera slider shots, time-lapse and especially the drone shots. What cameras do you guys use? You guys have it made out there in the west! So many places to fly. Again...beautiful work gentlemen! Joe Czachorowski. zackair.com

Great video. One suggestion, your narrator voice sounds like you are trying to talk a child into having a bowel movement. Really creepy. Maybe consider changing that. Other than that it is a very good video and I hope to be enjoying backcountry flying once I get some good hours under my belt.

Shanky! Your a genius! I was flying over MGW if you know what I mean. I tried everything, nothing seemed to relieve my payload. After I saw your comment I decided to take my iPad into the sanctum and let Zane's silky, mellifluous, soothing high fiber vocal stylings do the work my reluctant chiterlings have been refusing to do. Let's just say iPOOD!
