Painting with an airbrush is not exactly speed painting. It is using an expensive tool and a different and equally artistic skill to achieve a different effect than you would with a bristle brush. If you don't have a dedicated hobby workshop, the setup and cleaning of a safe air brush booth will take you well over an hour, sometimes almost 2 full hours. The use of the term "speed painting" here is to get people to click in search of something they can do with their brushes or at least with reasonably accessible resources.

@@tylerdenneson7320 I'm not sure how airbrushing isn't by definition speed painting, unless you define painting as only with a paintbrush? Nothing about speed painting suggests accessibility, only how fast the results are regardless of method, and airbrushing is by far the fastest way to perform a lot of techniques. It's almost like saying oil washes and contrast paints aren't speed painting, because they aren't using standard acrylics? I'm also very much confused at the 2 hour set-up and cleaning you suggest it requires for spray booth - as someone who has to do this, it's a 20 minute process max. You don't even require a booth to spray safely, only a mask, especially if you limit overspray. It's strange that you consider an airbrush to be inaccessible, given that a beginner set-up can comfortably cost less than £100, so less than most boxsets GW release nowadays.

@@NikkiAnnMarie also the reason I wouldn’t label it as speed painting is that you kind of specifically said during the video that you were using techniques that take LONGER. I was kind of actually quoting you in your own video so... let’s both chill out a bit.

@@NikkiAnnMarie finally, as far as the setup and take down, it sounds like you have a dedicated hobby area where you can leave most of your setup at the ready. I just have to completely disagree about that timing if you don’t have a dedicated workshop.

Aha, having a go at Overlord Duncan with the riff about not falling into the trap of the perfect blends or the two thin coats, eh? ;) Kidding aside, for myself? I'm aiming for a rougher and more textured, "painterly" approach these days, with cross hatching and dots and such, and I'm finding that wet blending is working well for me in that realm. Mushing together all those colors on the surface of a miniature is appealing to me because it gets me what I'm seeing in my mind's eye far better than most any other approach right now.

so cool Marco! Its given me ideas for some old zombies I have around (no Cursed City for me sniff sniff) Funny enough, I actually like the look of matte varnish over my recent marines at the end, in how it ties together colours together, and makes the highlights of the metal a little easier to see. But I don't use a super matte like AK Interactive. But then I may come back in with a little cheeky edge highlight though for the metals.... maybe

So much so I've now seen more "mainstream" refrence and try to recreate your method. Specifically Ninjon who's become more mainstream with shout outs and collabs with miniac. Do you think you'll be doing any collaborations with other youtubers at all in the future?

I can't stand those models that have their grave plot and tombstone welded to their spines like a ridiculous unbalancing fin. That said the process is again wonderful and the zombie skin has a ton of interest and complexity. Perfect to apply to the many and varied piles of undead and suppurating plastic I have leering from boxes and drawers. Oils are so ideal for such a wild and reckless blending of tones, I always struggle to control them on the tiny details of 28mm musculature, it'll be such a joy to abandon controlled transitions for the wild mottling and corruption Marco gets from the base sketch modulated by the residue of that chaotic oil layer after Qtips have done their work. I've got so many models that will take this wild ride, from undersea horrors, through vampire thralls, zombies, and alien nasties, Marco, the gifter that keeps on giving... Plus have to say that painting these and those skeletons both in one day is an obscene display of what conception, planning and brushwork all working together actually can achieve. Lastly, and never leastly, he works such textural magic with thicker bodied paint and that beautiful brushwork, I just love to watch it developing into absolute splendour on each and every model.

I thought the same about their design then I noticed that the pole that supports the tombstone is a big stake piercing their chest; I love the storytelling contained in this detail and how it fits the setting of the game! An entire horde of zombies with a tombstone on the back is for sure a bit too uniform and implausible but few of them here and there can add some flavour

I’ve been experimenting with some of the things I’ve picked up from your videos (amazing videos) you have mentioned a number of times having cool shadows with warm highlights or warm shadows with cool highlights. Dose this mean you need to keep this across the whole model and if so how do you handle colours with high contrast. say a cool black with aqua blue highlights but with a red contrast. How would you do a cool highlight on a warm colour like red without it becoming purple. Or does the rule apply to only the part your painting so the armour would have cool highlights but the cloth reds would have warm highlights? Sorry if that’s confusing hope the question makes sense

Hi Marco, if I had to choose between Scalecolor Artist and Kimera set. What should I pick. Best regards,

hey Marco what do u think about the scale75 metallic paints? I still think liquid gold are by far the best metallics but I have to say very uncomfortable to use being alcohol based. Vallejo waterbed acrylics are good but I am curious of the scale metallics or other options out there

Hi Marco! Your work is amazing! Do you mind if I ask what static grass you use on your undead? I want to go for an autumnal theme and the grass you use is perfect

This is awesome. Just a quick question how do you select what color oil paint to use on certain parts. Cheers.
