    This lady is such an amazing inspirational human being. There’s no one in the public eye I admire more than Ms. Marie Henein. I hope she knows and realizes how powerful her life story is to many, if not all, immigrants here in Canada. I love her unapologetic attitude. It’s so refreshing to hear her. Her explanations about the legal system are so educational. Ms. Henein, you are one super, classy, inimitable lady! God bless you.

    I admire this woman very much. She is a true role model and unapologetic about who she is and how she expresses herself, as a woman and an attorney. During the first part of the interview, I wondered if she was a lesbian, and then she later mentioned she had a husband. Why do I bring up her sexuality? Because women who dress and act like her (somewhat masculine) are often judged for their gender expression, conditioned to believe certain things about what it means to be a woman, and told that men won't find their way of being attractive. Henein is proof that you should be whoever you wish to be, and someone will love you just the way you are.

    As someone living in the US, my ears kind of perked up when she mentioned that in Canada, you don't have elected judges and elected prosecutors that run on how many convictions they've gotten. Is it true then, that people working in the legal system that she mentioned really don't have so much incentive to jail innocents in the pursuit of advancing their careers?

  • @rajshah646

    @rajshah646

    Absolutely, insofar as judges and prosecutors are elected, coupled to the premise that a tough on crime agenda is politically favorable, you arrive at the fairly straightforward result that even wrongful convictions are seen as wins.

    With respect to the American Legal System, for many Canadians, the idea that prosecutors and judges who are legal officials, to be elected is almost horrifying. The idea that a judge has to pander to a certain electorate to keep their job, and the only way to do that is to put their own ambitions into their judgements, is absolutely frightening. Can you imagine a judge giving sentences that are more brutal and harsh, only for the reasons that they have to do it to keep their job, then objectivity goes flying out the window. Judges, and lawyers for that matter, have to be dispassionate. They have to be dedicated to their clients and to the word of the law, nothing more. Judges have to have zero influence outside the court, they should not be vulnerable to bribes of especially the sway of public opinion.
