2:00 i live an hour from Tims shop, i was picking up a 75/2560 motor, i asked about this video and he showed me the second stage of that rocket. Pictures and video don’t compare, it was easily as long as a small transit bus. It was insane seeing it in person up close and getting to ask him questions, like how the motor he had for sale for it was $3000. Easily one of the most impressive rockets ive seen, it rivals the Air and Space Museum for sure

If you watch the clip of it flying on just the P motor the next day with the sustainer only it's pretty nuts too. A 27 foot rocket that weighs 350 pounds taking off like a 4" rocket on an M motor was pretty frightening, haha

3:31 V2 did exacly what it was designed to do . only having small bang .
reminds me of a 6 foot rocket I built. Like a dummy I forgot to glue the motor mount in the tube. The launch was beautiful. The ejection charge blew the motor and mount out the back. Nothing like the thrill of watching your hard work drive itself into the ground.....
Ate the end with the spaceX line made the video even better
That was very entertaining. I can imagine the amount of time and effort that went into making those rockets, so I tried very hard not to laugh. I made some Estes rockets of my own in the day. They were all from kits and they flew so-so. I remember Tim, who got me interested in rocketry, and who critiqued and improved my rockets. He also had the launch pad. Thanks, Tim!
How fun it must be to attend an event like that!

I could watch these all day.
10 out of 10 for the commentary. Not so much for the rockets, but a hellavalota fun. Well done to all aspiring Von Brauns.
I watched a model rocket strike a car a few years back at a demo at a local dragstrip. It's no joke it pushed in the door about a foot.
It’s exciting to see how the rockets are going to perform good or failed. I can be out there all day watching them go up or blow up.🚀💥

HAHA I LOVE YOUR WORK! Best regards from Germany
I don’t know how I got to this side of YT but I’m hooked!
I can't help but laugh when the chute comes out on the pad and then it takes off.
Sometimes they work well, and sometimes they fail miserably! I've actually had a few failures myself. Fins really need to be secured tight! I did an L1 attempt and the H motor I used sheared 2 of the 3 fins off, right off the pad. And I had a forward motor closure failure that caught my PML 1/4 Semi Scale Patriot on fire. Fun to watch, sad to see your investment and hard work destroyed!😃🚀🔥💥😥
The V2 flew like the real thing.
Holy crap some of those rockets move fast. Would make a THAAD missile jealous.

This is fantastic. We started launching rockets at my rc club and it has really been a neat addition to the fun we have out there. THis is next level!
The rocket with the checkered pattern started off really well
The 2nd fail was what I was looking for
I used to love model rockets as a kid. I took the cute out of one once and filled the top section with butane from a lighter refiller. You can guess what happened when it went to eject the chute. Damn those were fun times.
Imagine one of these tilts right after launch and starts going your way gaining speed like a bullet

I remember back in the mid to late 90s They did this RIGHT off of highway 75 in Allen Texas.... Which was a six lane highway but the area was mostly horsebarns still. But no like like 1 click from the highway. We had mad lads back in the day.
Dude the guy announcing @3:00 is my hero!!
Couple of questions: 1) What does the acronym CATO stand for? 2) How is it the engine firing on the pad after the parachute ejection charge has previously deployed the parachute? I believe this was from the clip of the third rocket. 3) Referring to (2), I have considerable experience with the common C & D engine model rockets; the main engine charge has to first burn in order to provide ignition to the delay burn, which in turn ignites the ejection charge. Are these larger classes of engines designed to behave differently?
@duncanshour
3 жыл бұрын
Catastrophe At Take Off when you get to larger motors the ejection charge is not always integrated into the top of the motor and it is separately controlled by an altimeter that sets the black powder charge off with an ematch, using an altimeter also allows you to do dual deploy where you have a drogue deploy at apogee and the main deploy at a predetermined altitude so that the rocket doesn't drift too far under the larger main parachute. A similar thing to dual deploy can be done with normal motor eject with a Jolly Logic chute release where the parachute will still be deployed by the ejection charge but it will not open up due to a rubber band holding it closed by the chute release and when the chute release detects the preset altitude the rubber band will be unlatched allowing the parachute to fully open. for the third rocket, it looks like the motor failed for some reason, and pushed the parachute was pushed out but I am not sure exactly why.
Gotta love Jeff Bridges commentating for half of these.
I don't know how did I find my way here, but those rockets are pretty cool :3
Used to build those Estes model rockets and launch them at the park when I was younger. Started making bigger rockets but parents made me stop when one made a hole in someone’s roof. Launching rockets in a tiny neighborhood park probably wasn’t the best place to launch them anyways.
Well that was fun to watch.
lmao the commentators were having a blast ass well
This is legit very entertaining. Not just the fails, but the successes too! Very impressive that people build these! Is this like an annual event or something?

@@RocketVlogs Yes I see it now, there is a piece that comes off! I couldn't see it when I watched it the first few times. For the record, I thought it was still a fail-I just thought maybe it wasn't supposed to be a piggyback deployment or something haha
"Man 'ol Vern never thought that was gonna happen."
I once made a tiny A powered spin stabilized rocket, the spin stabilization was so effect that it flew straight up and when the nose cone got stuck it flew straight down about 20 feet from the launch pad and lawn darted itself so deep and so perfectly we never found it.

Woahh
Great camera work!!!
I used to build model rockets when I was young. The last one I built, like an idiot I put the igniter in the engine the night before I was gonna launch it & sat it down on my desk. Some time during the night it fell off the desk onto the ground right next to the 9volt battery for my launch button. I went to go get it & when I picked it up, the igniter touched that battery perfect & set the igniter off & the engine went off. I was surprised so I just stood there holding it while it went through the first engine & then I broke it between the 1st & 2nd stage & ran & threw it out the door. My whole house was filled with smoke in seconds! My parent's were fking pissed & that was pretty much the end of me building model rockets. 😆
This is a regular day at large HPR launch :). I've even contributed a few mishaps myself. It's part of the hobby.
The announcer reactions are great

Awesome video
Thanks youtube algorithm! Enjoyed that!
Thanks Tom for your response much apricated, I don't think it was on this video but one similar, when the guy coordinating the event and doing the count down, commented that one of the rockets being fired off had sparklers and he said that's not cool or allowed. Was just wondering why? Maybe they are more dangerous or something?
@RocketVlogs
3 жыл бұрын
He was referring to sparky motors, which are motors that have titanium in them to produce a sparking effect. They are allowed, but not to be flown off the grass at the Argonia launch site due to fire danger. They must be flown off the pads in the dirt. Here is footage of a sparky motor I flew at that same launch: kzread.info/dash/bejne/oKiOx7SrmcybZbg.html
