Honestly rodriguez was asking for it. He kept accusing marwan of playing dirty when this was a game when Marwan really wasn't and his shove to show he could get the drive was excessive.

Nah Rodriguez was being paranoid the whole match, the push was not called for. I still don’t like shorbagy though despite him playing much cleaner in this match.

I still can’t justify physical shoving and towering over your opponent (looking like you want to fight) on the court. Squash isn’t that sport. Very unprofessional and hooligan-like. Feel sorry for the kids watching.

I've never seen such a disgraceful shove in Professional Squash before. Rodriguez did very well handling himself in such a situation. He could've easily retaliated and who know what would've happened. Great match. Disappointing behavior from Elshorbagy

Miguel was outclassed. It's become the norm for top players to start fishing for points when they're on the run. Ali did it to Asal and got rewarded. Miguel tried the same but the ref didn't fall for it. Had it been Asal, it would've been a different story.

  • @georgekrumm1857

All of the conduct strokes Asal was penalized with against Ali were thoroughly deserved, as was obvious on the replays. Rodriguez is also correct at 6:11 here. Marwan clearly stands on his shot and makes zero effort to give his opponent a path to the ball, as required by the rules of the game. You're entitled to a reasonable amount of space to hit your shot and finish your swing, but you can't intentionally take up more space to get in your opponent's way, and you are required to make every effort to clear your opponent's path to the ball afterwards.

What is perceived to be a player blocking his opponent, may just be the position he happens to be in when playing his natural shot. Some would argue that he is deliberately preventing his opponent getting to the ball without taking other factors into consideration such as the speed at which he has to play the winning shot and the poor quality of the shot played by the opponent in the first place. When the opponent realises his bad position, his final outlet is to fish for a let. It then becomes a challenging task for the ref to determine whether the opponent is fishing or genuinely being blocked. I thought the ref was spot on in his no let calls. When Ali played Asal, the ref unfortunately, fell for all Ali' tricks(diving, moaning, animated appeals) which caused Asal to lose in the semi-final. I do believe though that Asal will figure out a way to overcome the current biases against him. In my opinion, he is the best player on tour currently.

@@adielhoward6271 I see them in a different light. 1, I think that the player in the shoot has to assess that if he hits the ball back towards him, he has to be able to step away from it. It is no coincidence that there are many cross shoot when you do not feel the possibility of "circulation". 2, Believe me, it is not by chance that Asal was banned and Asal was obliged to "use" a sports psychologist. 3, Who is the best player? Asal for you, Ali for me, and Coll on the rankinkglist. It's very much a matter of perspective :)

  • @georgekrumm1857

@@adielhoward6271 Asal totally failed to move out of Ali's way after finishing his shots, and in some cases stepped directly into his line. They weren't even close calls. Did you look at the situation I referenced in these highlights? Marwan makes zero effort to allow Rodriguez to get around him, keeping his legs spread. Again, not even a close call. The opponents do exaggerate their reactions, but that's to force the refs to deal with blocking that has been ignored for too long.

@@georgekrumm1857 I'm afraid Ali had you fooled as well. There was no blocking. Only exaggerated diving with excessive complaining. Watch him he plays Asal. He seems to save this behaviour exclusively against Asal.
