High Notes on a Bach 3C Who Cares!

The human air compressor-An example of why High notes in and of themselves are worthless! Later I plan to show how they can become usefull and sometimes, even musical. Please pardon the hair!

The things I would like to get into in future posts will be what can make these notes, more; warm sounding, centered, accurate, precise and most importantly musical! Really except in rare situations does anyone care for a lead player to go beyond a high F or G concert, Double C usually being a final note topper in even rarer situations. The ability to go beyond that is icing on the cake, but not the cake itself and if the cake tastes bad, no amount of icing will make up for it!!!!

@@jicetp Smoke and mirrors! It's basically a matter of letting one's air compression do the majority of the work. Pressing in on the involuntary diaphragm muscle with one's abdominal muscles to help support the airstream. Once the high note is achieved, it's a matter of letting the air flow smoothly and relaxing the body and throat, so as to not choke off the note. Though years ago I thought using pedal tones was nonsense, I've done a complete turnaround and find they greatly assist in keeping relaxed in the upper register. I try to not think so much about the mechanics as the sound I'm going for. If you want better advice on mechanics, check out Bryan Davis and Charley Porter's clips here on KZread as they have loads of good advice and musical examples. Bryan Davis also had written a few books. Both of them can both play extremely well and can teach.
