Amid allegations of irregularities in the NEET exam, the central education department has set up a high-level committee, revealed the NTA DG.
With protests arising over 67 students securing the top rank in the NEET 2024 exam conducted for admissions into medical courses, the central education department has made a significant decision.
Due to the outcry over alleged malpractices in the exam, a four-member committee led by a former UPSC chairman has been formed. This committee will submit a report with recommendations within a week, stated NTA DG Subodh Kumar Singh.
He mentioned that the committee will review the grace marks given to over 1500 candidates, and there might be a possibility of revising their results after the review. Subodh Kumar Singh clarified that giving grace marks will not affect the exam's eligibility criteria.
He emphasized that reviewing these candidates' results will not impact the admission process. He denied the allegations of malpractice in the NEET exam, asserting that there was no paper leak and no irregularities occurred. He assured that the integrity of this nationwide exam remains intact.
He explained that the changes in NCERT textbooks and the loss of time at exam centers were the reasons for granting grace marks, which led to higher scores for those students. When asked whether the affected students would have to retake the exam, he responded that the decision would depend on the committee's recommendations.
