    I watch this video too often, its one of the reasons i finally hit the basin. I always stayed on the left side of the sierras, all this rain we have been getting is almost overwhelming with all the spots to go over. Im sure your thinking the same. From Bakersfield to modoc county and over to northern nevada. Should be a good year, happy hunting and thanks for all the great videos.

My God, arrowheads are all over the place in our country and obviously in many other areas of our world. Such wonderful craftsmanship and created from a beautiful material that defies the passing centuries ! Thank you for taking me on the hunt guys.

I am all the way over in Southern Illinois and I actually found a couple of big cores of obsidian on one of the local sites that have had alot of long slivers knapped off of them. This tells me that I have a extremely slim chance of finding a obsidian point but a slim chance is better than no chance at all 😉 thanks for the awesome video and good luck in your ventures.

  • @greatbasinman

    @greatbasinman

    5 жыл бұрын

    David Downtown Brown Thanks for the inquiry, the black material most are made from in this vid is called obsidian, comes straight out of volcanos that belched the material over many areas within the Great Basin. Early indigenous peoples of North America found out early that is was easy to knap into tools and weapons.

    greatbasinman , that's cool!! It makes since!! So it is harder for me to tell if they are real , not yours I no yours real Lol!! But iv been buying alot strangers at flea market. Iv got some real nice ones lately. I have a friend that's been doing it for 40 years and he usually looks at them. What I'm trying to say is the black ones are so smooth and perfect that iv come across, they almost look fake. I got one last Sat, that is black bird point and has dove tail, it's perfect. Are they worth more than another bird that is perfect?? U no with the dove tail?

  • @greatbasinman

    @greatbasinman

    5 жыл бұрын

    David Downtown Brown Be careful when you’re buying em, lots of variables on what any point is worth, obviously the main one is that it’s anciently authentic, a lot of obsidian points look like they were made yesterday, the older ones will be slightly shinier on one side, results from the elements, usually the side that faces down when ya find it will be the shinier side. I’ve never bought any points but did buy a discoidal, a piece of pottery and a pipe, all from back east. Pretty sure the discoidal and pottery are authentic but the pipe is as phony as a three dollar bill, it was an expensive 700$ lesson. Buyers beware, take care!

    Haha. Yea, us outdoorsy arrowhead types are all a little different! Ive hunted all my life in different states Ive lived in. I think I was born with rockhound fever. It's hard to find other ppl to go with. And it's fun to go with another person sometimes. I wonder if it's possible to message you another way, too?
