Grave Mind & High Charity are the actual scariest levels of Halo 2 when you realize that in the background, far off-camera, literally billions of sentient/sapient civilians are getting killed and infected by the flood in mass while you're trying to make due on your mission. You're literally watching one of the, in-universe, greatest losses of life in (in-universe) history unfold before your eyes.

Obviously a human flood survival game would be sweet, but just imagine a covenant, maybe even grunt or jackal survival game in high charity during the flood takeover? Could be so scary and also add a whole new level of lore with it and just be a solid game

For a few years now I have contemplated on a specific story of a goofy, misunderstood but highly intelligent and crafty grunt called Nim Yak, traversing the city “suburbs”, industrial centres, martial zones and outer rims of HC trying to survive the Civil War and later the Flood infection, tasked with an important top secret mission that reveals a dark plot twist, that Nim Yak struggles with before trying to rectify, finally resulting in him fighting desperately to survive and escape HC. The story was to be told in a survival horror game, with extreme emphasis on the horror 1/3-1/2way through as the infection breaks out. Unfortunately the story has stayed in my head as I haven’t got the skill or money to start any kind of meaningful development. Something I thought deeply on was deeply exploring the common districts of HC: housing, traffic areas, industrial zones, commercial zones, breeding areas, drug dens, brothels, underground black market zones, etc. Dark and seedy areas I wondered upon especially when I was a young kid, looking upon the central city for long amounts of time when playing as MC in the HC mission of H2. I’d imagine them booming with social and commercial activity, then during the civil war rife with chaos and bloodshed, then extremely eery and horrifying during the infection as scattered remnants of covenant forces from both sides of the Schism hole up in makeshift-security trying to survive the onslaught of the Flood. I’m detailing this very heavily, somewhat sharing too much, but I think someone with better means of creating such a thing could do with some form of inspiration from an extreme Halo fan such as myself

@@b22blackeagle20 thanks man. If u wanna read more I’ll leave this here :) They choose him for the mission in preparation of the civil war as he is an unassuming individual. The start of the game would show a cutscene where Nim Yak is being tasked by an Elite commander, who assaults the young Grunt to intimidate him into compliance for the mission as Nim is initially fearful and rejecting (the story over time shows Nim Yak against severe odds, and occurrences like this establish that atmosphere) Through the first half Nim Yak finds another Grunt, Bik Lom, who he partners with throughout sections after that. In a specific scenario, before the infection, Nim comes across a Brute major who has caught wind of the top secret package that Nim has been tasked with transporting (Nim was told the package was to be used to save a massive portion of the Covenant population, with the majority being Unggoy, but the truth is actually much different). This Brute is a primary story point, the intention of his addition to create extreme tension through gameplay and storytelling: for example, in a cutscene introducing the Brute, he eats the remnants of a Grunt as Nim hides in a vent while travelling through a section. Anyway, during a climax of this story point where Nim seems to be at deaths door against the Brute, captured and battered, Bik saves him, establishing their brotherhood. However… even Bik has a secret to hide. The Flood sections are where the true horror starts. The first sections of the game were tension against vicious enemies and odds (primary focus on small enemy numbers, supplemented by high fear and risk), who although are terrifying, they are at least sentient and predictable. But the 2nd half is terror survival, reminiscent of Outlast or RE7 Biohazard. The battle isn’t taken to the Flood, such as Master Chiefs story, but instead under the radar. Nim’s craftiness and cunning though allow him to traverse through this nightmare, although coming out the other end traumatised and completely reborn. Nim encounters old friends who have been infected, Flood worship cults, mass graves, and tasks so out of hand they seem literally impossible but are necessary for his survival. The end is Nim’s attempt to find an escape vessel that he can use to return to the Unggoy home planet Balaho. God I wish I could create this game, and give the fans a masterpiece. Maybe I should start on writing it, even for myself. Thanks for reading man :)

Not sure how far modsing has come, I've seen a few things here and there for some of it but could be an idea to try and reach out to some modders. I'm unsure how well the playable grunt aspect would be but even for now, maybe could be swapped around and play as an elite who is tasked with watching him and staying in the shadows. Regardless of its strength, I think that it makes a good bit of sense that High Charity's energy shields never fell before its destruction. The only times I can think of where it was involved in combat were the Grunt Rebellion and the fall of High Charity during the Great Schism. The Grunt Rebellion seems to have been primarily inside of the city and not that destructive to High Charity's systems, so I doubt that the energy shields would fall during the rebellion.

I've always wanted a game where we could properly explore High Charity. I could see an interesting Mass Effect style RPG set on High Charity during the Covenant's reign. Think of the cops on the Citadel, and then imagine a similar role for a Sangheili on High Charity, where you get to play as one of the guards. At first you're dealing with routine problems, like breaking up fights between Unggoy and Kig-Yar. But eventually, you stumble onto a massive conspiracy and fall in with a small splinter group. At the end of the game it's revealed that the one who opened your eyes is Sesa 'Refumee, and your entire group is fated to be killed at the hands of the Arbiter.

It’s highly likely the police force would’ve been delegated towards the jackals and brutes and even the san'shyuum. One consume, the loosely held peace between the prophets and the elites was largely managed in part by making so deletes wouldn’t have to have any occupation that was deemed less than honorable. Being a police officer, probably less than honorable. As to the prophets being more bureaucratic would understand the need for them to be police chiefs, and so on., if such a game were to exist. Then you would most likely play as a jackal.

High Charity is indeed one of the most memorable city-ships in Sci-Fi, a grand mixture of elegant beauty and terrifying power. In a bitter-sweet irony, the highest charity it ever gave was its own destruction, as that paved the way for Humanity to survive both the Covenant and the Flood. This was a fantastically beyond thorough breakdown of high charity. I hadn’t even thought of half the things you brought up. It really got me thinking, especially when you said how generations of covenant are born and live out their lives never having been outside of high charity, about what a day in the life for a covenant individual would be. Like what was their economy and class system like? Religion is so pervasive in their culture, in what different ways do each species and rank interact with it? What role does enslavement play in their civilization? And since these autofab factories and forerunner power sources make it so production and energy are essentially free, what kinds of non military working roles are available to the general covenant population? It would be really interesting to hear something about average covenant civilians perspective on their upbringing, life, the war with humanity, and especially their thought on their own history, eventually leading up to great journey and the great schism. There’s a lot there, and I know there’s not a lot of source material for this, but it is cool to think about.

This video is excellent in nearly every way - the scripting and pacing, the visual editing, the quality of the research. The only issue I have is that the audio mixing is such that there are times where the soundtrack is loudly - and successfully - competing with your voice to be the centre of attention. 30:22 is a particular example, but there are quite a few places where crescendos overpower you and make it hard to enjoy all the hard work you put in to making this video happen.

@@b22blackeagle20 That's true, and we never do see them out trying to kill the flood elite in halo wars either, it's almost like it's not really a concern to the covenant there, where as by the time of halo 2 and even later halo wars 2, the flood are viewed as a priority threat. So it's definitely still possible that the flood are still out there, just unknown to us.

Rest in peace to High Charity. A 'What if' that's forming in my mind centers around the ship having never fallen to the Flood. It could be the capital of a combined Covenant species - Human center of galactic governance, a Citadel to rival if not shame the one featured in the _Mass Effect_ Universe. It could be host to... innumerable small-scale, intimate stories - the Lower districts are perfect for neo-noir detective tales, gangster stories... Tower districts could be home to legal and political thrillers on the other hand. Of course, some clever writer could pen a story that spans both sides. But alas, the Flood being clever and genocidal, decided all the above was not to be.

The flood Graveming probably slowed it down so the damage to its own forces would not be so high, as if they just crashed and exploded the ark qould still have survived and repaired itself while the flood would have lost all its biomass, it had to slow down and make a slow crashland.

spacestations usualy have thrusters for movement. i think the main difference bewtween a spaceship is if its designed for continous acceleration and orbit changes, or its main design if focused on orbital function. high charity by this measure is a smace station, as its ment to rest in orbit for its main function, with travel optimized design being a lesser concern.

I would like to add the halo 3 terminals detail that the forerunners already began viewing and promoting the discourse of the mantle as a form of religious commemoration to their losses in the flood war. Some of them even using the phrasing "Great Journey". In Halo 2 Cortana says the forerunners built some of the structures at installation 05 on top of the old ones to honour them in a form of spiritual commemoration. It's likely the forerunner's technology that was encountered by the future covenant species was accessed and interpreted these solemn registries as religious, and as such, the belief in the forerunners was born. Out of their desire to be commemorated and remembered, the galaxy did indeed rememember them, exactly as they would have liked to be remembered. As mythical gods who saved and transcended the galaxy.

High Charity can still be considered a space station, as it spends most of its time “stationary.” The word stationary in space is completely relative to frame of reference,. Look at the International Space Station, which orbits the Earth, which itself orbits the sun. Basically nothing in space is literally stationary. A space station may still need some level of propulsion, to maintain its orbit, or to avoid objects and debris that may threaten it that cannot be moved or destroyed themselves. High Charity really doesn’t move around that much except in slip space transitions and other rare occasions, therefore remaining relatively “stationary” as a result. All that being said, a better classification would be something like Void City.

I'm halfway through this vid and liking it. The mention of time dilation is of some concern. Of course worm holes and such. The SF Drive displaced this in some manner but not all. I'd like to know if time travel is a replacement to not knowing at this point in this universe. It really seems like it is. If not the former a better understanding of simple foundation of 4D thinking is in placement.
