HiFiMan HE1000 V2 Headphones Review
Ғылым және технология
The original HE1000 certainly caused a lot of drama when it was released and the quick release of the newer version likewise. However the changes in the V2 have improved the headphone considerably. Here I take a close look.
Notes: No unboxing. Something in my camera failed.
I probably shouldn't have used the word "vastly" when talking about the improvement in imaging. My bad, but it was a big difference for me, with the recordings I often listen to with these headphones.

Awesome review. Loved that you included the sample tracks into the video while you talked!
I'm still on my version 1 and happy with them
If anyone is looking for it, the Dead Can Dance track is Song of the Stars, not Song of the Dispossessed.
Keeping in mind that music reproduction boils down to personal preferences, this cat finds that an all copper Cardas cable clarifies the musical elements, adds a touch of smoothness as well as a skoche of warmth over the stock cable. The HEK V2 also seems to benefit from the use of a tube amp. An NOS tubed EAR HP4 is very synergistic with these cans.
NIce, glad you liked them :-)

Hi hifiman.
Great review on V2 and not sure if I can upgrade yet, I have HE1000 V1 so kindly recommend few options on the good amp to pair with this in the range of $700 to $2000. I like good dynamics and fun sound with still high end refinement, I listen to Bollywood & dance music not so much vocals. Am looking for amps such as CMR800R, Auralic Taurus MKii, Mjolinr, Woo Audio 2/6SE, Chord Hugo but feel free to recommend. Thanks again !
I bought a decent set (he400i - dacmagic) and I'm in love with headphones now more than my first love which was 2ch audio... now I want to buy a top tier set to have one of the best headphones, how would these compare to an LCD 3 - LCD XC - STAX 700 and EITHER C FLOW ???
HI, I am in the dabbling phase. I have owned the HD800, HD800S, Audeze LCD2, Audeze LCD4 and the HIFIMAN HE1000V2. I have been using the Sony TAZH1ES for a DAC with silver plated 16 core 4-Pin XLR cables. I have not got into the electrostatic world or the tube amps yet. If I continue to use the Sony DAC, is it worth upgrading from the HE1000V2 to the Susvara? I tend to sway more toward the HE1000V2 then the LCD-4 for sound preference. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Mr Currawong, Thank you very much for the best review on the HE~1000!! V2 So you do not recommend a after market cable ? Moon Audio cable roll off at high end i have noticed ! Just my opinion !! but are more spacious!! Really like your reviews !!
@Currawong

I think the Moon Audio cables seem, on first listen, to be less energetic in the treble, but the detail is definitely there. The stock cable with the HE1000 V2 I felt was fine though. That's not to say whether or not you might prefer them with a different cable.
Belissimo fone. Esse pode ser cosiderado um concorrente direto do sennheiser orpheus?
Simple and comprehensible review. I've had a listen to the original version and it didn't draw me towards it. Might V2 has that missing magic? I would like to know your suggestions on amps that are preferred to bring the most out of Sennheiser HD 800 / 800S. I'm looking for a somewhat affordable ( up to $1000 ) dac/amp with XLR output.

I reckon I need to explore more amps in that price range. Funnily enough though, I get a lot of enjoyment out of the Chord Mojo with the HD800 (re-cabled) even if there is more resolution to be had.
How does these stack up to the paradox lff slant
how do these compare to the arya stealths? (v3)
Would anyone mind spelling out the songs he used in this review?
Nice review. At least now it is worth the upgrade. Hey, would you able to get your hands on the new Mr. Speakers AEON? Kinda interested to know whats your opinion on it.

Have you listened to the focal Elear? What are your thoughts on them? Great review btw

Only briefly at a meet. They were easy to listen with, but somewhat "soft" from memory.
Hi AmosI am really enjoying your reviews very informative thanks.You mention the amp selection is important for the he1000 v2.Due to slight hearing impairment I am looking for an amp with a balance control.(L/R balance)Other than the violectric v281 can you suggest any others?If not is this amp a good match for the hex v2?Main listening is classical , string ,piano and vocals. Should I reconsider the hifiman and go to a stax setup with their amp?Thx Karl
@Currawong
7 жыл бұрын
If you're listening to mostly acoustic music, then the Stax could be the go. The bigger amps have balance controls built in. The other thing you can do is investigate using a stereo receiver. Some of them run the headphone output off the speaker output with a resistor (to allow for sane volume adjustment). Some people have had good luck doing that.
Great video. I have the edition x, and wondering if I upgrade to the he1000, would that make a big difference? My Dac/amp is an Audeze deckhard, which I like a lot. Thx.

The HE1k are better but only by a degree or two. They require a alot more power as well compared to the high senstivity HEX. You can get the power with the deckard, of course, but unless someone is willing to trade or you can upgrade without much of a loss after selling the HEX that will be a tough pill to swallow.
I found with the HEX vs the Audeze LCD-2s, the impact and directness of drums, piano keys etc was a bit 'removed' from the listener on the HEXs. They can a bit too 'musical', coloured maybe. Are the HEKs better in that respect?
@Currawong
7 жыл бұрын
The HEKs are more removed, more delicate, like electrostats. They don't do impact so well. I think that is where planars, Z1Rs and Utopias do much better.
@letsbefrank3

Thanks, that's what I thought you might say. I have heard the HEX V2 and for that reason didn't buy them...although they are SOOO comfortable!
I prefer these over lcd4 so much more, in terms of sound. But I like audeze's design and fit and finish more.
have you tried the Arya and the HE1000se? how does the HE1000 v2 compare to the newer ones?
@dleblanc343
4 жыл бұрын
Azu Shi tonally v2 is best. 1000se is bright, but really transparent and quick. Arya sounds softer/ fuzzier than hekv1, ever so slightly
When you said that the ALO V5 drives this where, is it just the ALO itself or you use another DAC too? I was wondering if adding the Mojo will make a significant difference
@Currawong
7 жыл бұрын
The DAC will make a difference, but I feel this is a pair of headphones where the amp is very important, more so than with other headphones I have.

Nice review, much needed information for the HEK V2. How would you rate the HEK V2 to the Focal Utopia? If you could do a comparison on both it would be amazing to watch.

That's the plan!
Hey, do you think that an ifi idsd can run these well? Thanks
@Currawong

Technically the iFi products should, as I recall them all putting out a lot of power. Whether the combination will sound very good, or do justice to a $3k headphone purchase, I don't know.
i thought he-1000 has magnets only on one side of diaph and hifiman is going back to double side magnet design with edition 6.
@Currawong

Mine has magnets on both sides.
Hi Currawong, I didn't find the comparison of the HE1000 V2 to the HD800S... Is the HE1000 worth the double price of the HD800S? I have Chord Hugo 2 DAC\AMP.. I've read the build quality of the HE1000 V2 is very bad.. Which one should I get ? HE1000 V2 or HD800S? I am listening mostly to Rock, Pop, Dance and Electronic.. But also to classical music rarely seldom. Thank you in advance!
@Currawong
7 жыл бұрын
I don't know who said the HE1000 V2 build quality is bad, as mine is perfectly OK. The original V1 though didn't feel like a $3k pair of headphones. For the music you listed, I wouldn't choose either pair of headphones as my first choice. The HE1000 V2 is mostly about having electrostat-like delicacy and refinement (though some people like that with electronic music such as Shpongle) and the HD800 and S are very spacious-sounding, which I think works best with good acoustic. That being said, I do use the HE1000 V2 daily with those genres and can mostly enjoy them.
@roiosdona
7 жыл бұрын
Hi, thanks! So would you suggest the HE1000 V2 over the HD800S for Pop and Rock? If yes - is the Chord Hugo 2 by itself powerful enough to drive the HE1000 V2 adequately? Is it more worthwhile to have the HD800S with the HDVA600 amp and the Chord Hugo 2?
Did the HE1000 V2 best the Ether Flow and Audeze LCD-3 in Planar Magnetic headphones for you?
@Currawong
7 жыл бұрын
I haven't owned an LCD-3 for years, so I can't comment on that model, but each of the HE1000 V2 and Ether Flow have different strengths. The HEK seemed to be able to present more detail, but requires a great system to get there. The Ether Flow was a better all-rounder when detail isn't the most important and when you want it to sound good out of pretty much anything you plug it in to.
@johnyang799
7 жыл бұрын
That Sorta Geeky Imo yes by preference. Lcd3 can be better if you like the tuning. But ether flow is lacking something in front of hekv2. I absolutely love hekv2.
Would you confidently these one of the best headphones? On par with the utopias?
@Currawong

Have you seen my Utopia review?
Are you saying "euphonic" or "euphoric" when describing what sort of amp these need? (I have never heard an amplifier described as euphoric; if that is indeed what you said, I want me one of those! I am not sure I understand, but I haven't heard as high-end heaphone amps as you have).

I accidentally said "euphoric" when I should have said "euphonic". Not scripting most of my videos results in these kinds of mistakes.

How does the imaging compares with hd800.
@Currawong
7 жыл бұрын
It doesn't have the artificially wide soundstage of the HD800 but I feel with a good amp it can be more precise. The HD800, to me, seems like it has more of a "wall of sound" presentation in comparison. That's on my system though.
Nice review. How do you think these sound with questyle cma800i ?

Yes. I've been thinking that for a while. I used to hang blankets before recording, but that took up too much time.
To get a better build quality from Hifiman you have to pay the price of a car, how ridiculous it is? Still its not the best quality of materials. Amazing sound but zero respect for customers for that I give them middle finger
