HIDE TANNING. This is the second part of how I'm tanning some beavers. Check it out, it is a super simple process, and very rewarding when complete.

Hey Alex! Thanks for watching. I definitely like doing these beaver this way. The quality of beaver I have in my area make them less desirable for the fur market, but tanning and hooping them make them a little more marketable to the general public.

And I learn something new every day. Learned one thing off your video that’s going to save me money and NEVER thought of it. Your salt. I buy non iodized salt for tanning from my taxidermy supplier cost $6.50 but cost about $15 to ship. I also buy 1 pound 20 oz cans for about .88 cents from Walmart. But seen you use cattlemen stockman mineral salt I went to the feed store and got a 40lbs bag for like $9.00. But I check out everything. I seen you keep your hides\ trapping supplies in a grain bin. That’s a good place now all I have to do is move one so it’s closer to the shop. Since season is over. Got all my #3 bridges. Offset 2 coils. Out. Took off all my springs. Pans. Bought new bolts and nuts/brass. Cut new washers out of milk jugs for the washers on both sides of the pan. So my trap pan tension is easier to control. my traps are 22 years old And still work fine. Use trap die black any Stoll. Every year. I don’t use ani freeze Just waxed dirt. Tried salt one year and took the finish off my trap and made the spring weak. Keep them videos coming. I’ll keep watching

A taxidermist told me that what he uses for his salt when he’s salting hides. It works great, and is cost effective. I do use the same stuff for antifreeze for my traps.
