It's funny how at first the bustle is like "woah that's huge!". But once you have the dress on it melts into the silhouette just perfectly. Lovely outfit ♡

So true! I thought I would only use the big bustles for evening gowns - but I found I love my big bustle even with my day dresse! I will add that sometimes, when I know I'm going somewhere crowded, I will go for my smaller bustle then - just so I don't accidentally whack people. :)

I really love the fact that you tell where you got items like the lace, the corset, the shoes, etc. I love making the outer garb, but the inner pieces, not so much, particularly the shoes and corsetry!
I love it! You really inspire me to potentially dip my hand into historical dress. I've always loved historical dress, but have always been put off by how few Asian women are in it. I have spent the last few days thoroughly enjoying your blog. Thank you so much for all the resources!

I would love to see someone do something Art Deco from the period between the wars. Asia had a uniquely beautiful twist on the designs of this period. It just meshed so well with the Art Deco esthetic.
"Now it's time to frolic!" Cut to you frolicking and me having the biggest smile plastered on my face! This is so beautiful!!!
Everything in this is my Victorian costuming goals! Thank you for sharing all the little details, and for supporting such amazing businesses as well.
I am always astonished how gracefully you walk through your lawn. Grass scares me! In two ways; green stains, and... and well my clumsy self would find a way to trip
This is so helpful, thank you! As someone just starting it can be hard to know where to find all the parts, or know which fabric to buy, and where. I would watch a bunch of these style of videos, if you ever wanted to make more...

Me too! More videos like this. I will watch them all day every day!
Your video is, if nothing else, a treasure trove of information. Thank you so much for sharing all of this.
It's a lovely gown! And it's really interesting to see how the bustle looks almost too big with just that on, but with all the layers on top it really works. I've been sort of wanting a black/white dress ever since reading the Night Circus for the first time, and yours definitely made me think about it again!

Yes! I clicked on this video solely because from the thumbnail I thought, "That'd be a perfect Night Circus dress!" Love that book!!
if you want to design fancy clothes for a centaur i would definitely recommend looking at this bustle era for inspiration
You mentioned tarlatan !! For anyone curious it's also used for wiping copper plates for traditional intaglio printmaking !! It's stiff, but it doesn't pull too much of the etching ink away from the plate so it works perfectly !! Then it's printed on a press !! Reeves BFK is the paper that I prefer. :)

I need a second like button, both the dress and the floofs need a thumbs up.
Striped gowns are so much fun. THey just look amazing.
There's always 3 more layers in Historial Dresses than I expect. I need to step out of my Italian Renaissance bubble. 😂 I'm so excited to see this finished! I've loved following your progress on Instagram.

It's actually really funny! Because I'm so INSULATED, my legs were fairly cool, and when I stay still, it wasn't much worse than sitting in shorts - because my skin was covered!

Makes sense. I remember one exceptionally hot summer when people at my high school figured the best way to stay cool during classes was actually sitting in a sleeping bag, preferably with a frozen water bottle at the feet, but even without ice, it was still preferable :D Got me thinking, with those big bustles one could probably hide a ton of ice there without anyone knowing and be the coolest (figuratively AND literally) lady in town
You are so darling! That entire outfit is just so perfect. I love that you give shout outs to all of the vendors that you used as well. Great job on an amazinglook
"Now it's time to frolick!" 😃 Beautiful dress and thank you for the links.
The stripes are mesmerizing! Thank you for naming all your sources!
I like how not only did you say where you got all your things, but showed their website as well. Also it was nice that you showed that you don't have to make all the foundations garments yourself and still have an awesome outfit. Really enjoyed the video
You made my mamma sense go off @ around 8:20 when there’s that little faint cry in the background of your voiceover. Haha! Love it. Love your joy. Love the dress.
The bustle looks really striking when you've just put it on, like you're a (admittedly very truncated) centaur, but the overskirt makes an astonishing difference. How long does it take to put this dress on all together? Also, your dogs are very cute... Please tell them I love them...
BEAUTIFUL! (A reminder why ladies maids were so helpful and needed!)
Pretty. I kept thinking there would be a bow in the back too for some strange reason?
@Sewstine
4 жыл бұрын
I actually thought about putting one in and one of my drafts (on Instagram) shows a bow in the back. I did end up removing it because bows on all 4/4 sides made it look a little silly. :)
Goodness, I'd have to get dressed the day before!
I love how this all looks put together!! Ahh the silhouette with the big bustle really makes you look like you stepped right out of the fashion plate.
Great video! Thanks for taking the time to share where everything was from. I especially love the look of the striped fabric in the ruffles on the jacket.
I love this! It was so much fun seeing you put on each piece and talk about it. A great overview of the outfit. Flat lining with the serger is one of my very favorite historical sewing "hacks"! I do it all the time!
You and the dress are GORGEOUS! Just stunning! But I can’t imagine wearing so many layers in warmer climes.
Hands down dream dress goals And I’d love it I every colour Think pink! Or cerulean Or black and emerald Or the original checkerboard red stripe fabric shown inthe plate! So amazing. I have a bolt of the weirdest fabric blend with cream base and velveteen stripes in kiwi, strawberry and I think one other colour... it reminded me of ice-cream shops. I guess I just “spent “ another thousand dollars on the accessories from the video in my mind. Everything is perfection. Esthetic accessories execution outfit tips and you are a vision of skilled loveliness in it. Thank you. Virgo Vermeil:Steampunk Stylist

Holy smokes. This is beautiful and very well made. I love your channel and I’m really getting into Victorian style clothes for my daughter. So I’m binge watching to get ready to sew something for her “him”. Thank you for the content.
Amazing job! Love how the skirt looks without ruffles, it was the right decision to remove them. And your dogs are very cute 💙
It's wonderful that the fabric was still available when you were ready to make the gown. I have bookmarked fabrics many times only to have them vanish once I have a project in mind. This black and white stripe is so fabulous!
This is beautiful. I am in love with this fabric 🤩
I love all the detailed coverage of your fabric and materials. That dress is gorgeous and suits you so well, can't wait to see more.
I LOVE this ensemble! It's very similar to one I've had in my head for a while, just waiting for the reason and money to make it! Lovely!!!!
i love it so much!! the stripes are so striking and im SO happy you listed out the websites you got the patterns and everything from. I can't wait to browse through them!
This is the first video of yours I have seen and you have no idea how excited I got when I saw someone who looks Asian interested in historical fashion! I love historical fashion, but I always felt a little out of place since it seems like most fashion historians (at least the ones I have seen yet) are White. I'm very glad to have come across your video! This dress is amazing!!
Gorgeous gown! Thank you so much for explaining all the steps, and for showing where you got everything. Very helpful video!
You are truly gifted as a seamstress, this outfit is beyond stunning. I have seen many online but nothing compares to how original the fit and the look of this one. Congratulations on a job well done.
Oh,cute.Stripe always makes me bright.
Your sewing skill is so impressive; what a beautiful dress.
The dress is stunning! You bring joy to my life. Thank you so much for sharing.🙂❤️
This is so helpful!! It can be intimidating when getting into historical dress because there are so many pieces, but there are so many talented makers out there that can fill in the parts that you don't know want to make. Thanks for sharing your knowledge!
Thank you for the shopping tour! Sources for good materials are always helpful!!!
Your dress is absolutely gorgeous, just simple stripes, but wow! Love it.
Wow, so many layers. Beautiful dress.
OMG,you are so talented,I LOVE these old times dresses.♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️
Wow! So beautiful. This 1880s bustle silhouette is pure crazy but all together is something very special. Fantastic ensemble!
A beautiful black & white vertical striped 1880s bustle skirt and jacket with excellent commentary. It was a pity that the busle period was so short.
So beautiful! Thank you for making this
That dress looks amazing - great inspiration for my self to get going on this myself - the look is stunning
I love this so much! It is beautiful and the accessories are just icing on the cake.
Great work! This is why they needed 2 people to help them get into it. Thanks for the resources.
Such a pretty dress, I absolutely love it!
Oh this dress is magnificent. I am not usually one for bustles but woohoo this kinda makes me wanna give it a try. Yay for fashionable frolicking!!
It looks amazing! It’s so interesting what people did for fashion in the past.
the fabric is super cool. beautiful dress
Exquisite! Changing the bow placement from stomach to above the bustle though, would take it to the next level.
I had no idea it was such an expensive hobby! Truly beautiful result
Wow I love this look so much! Also your personality seems really nice so overall this was just a very enjoyable video :)
Flippin beautiful! Also the doggies are adorbs
This looks absolutely fantastic!
What an absolutely beautiful dress!!! The craftsmanship looks great. I can’t believe how many details and layers there are for the finished look, but I LOVE these kinds of videos where you get to see all of them! And the frolicking is adorable

Also, it makes me feel better that you had to do a bunch of different fittings on the bodice. I always have trouble with bodice fitting, but I thought it was just cuz I’m curvy!
Impressive! I usually congratulate tiny, new people on their ability to dress themselves. This was the exception to the usual! Huge props for dressing yourself!
Thank you so much for the links! I have been wanting to get into historical fashion for a while, but I am not the most competent seamstress yet, so Making a corset or petticoat wouldn't turn out to be comfortable or all that accurate. So these links are sure to help me get started!
Oh my goodness! I love this dress!!! Black and white is perfect. I think it would look good in navy and white too.
It looks amazing!
Absolutely gorgeous!
Super interesting! Thank you for listing all your resource points too!

Nice dress. Thank you as well for the information abiut were to get those items it really helps alot
New subscriber! Love how you tell where you got stuff from. Now, am I the only one having flashbacks to 1980s complicated blouses? I remember taking longer to figure out some of those 'tab A goes through slot C, ties with B' blouses.
You are super talented!
