This was very informative. I just inherited my fathers original 1971 Omega Seamaster 600m Proplof. It was recently sent to omega in Europe to be professionally cleaned and serviced. It is in mint condition and feels amazing when worn.

I am really liking Mark and his Hidden Gem series. Learning a lot. I always have a cheeky Bourbon whilst watching. Thank you chaps.

Bought my mint condition Ploprof 1200 from Crown and Caliber 2 months ago. It is absolutely awesome on the wrist. Wears much smaller than the actual width would suggest.

This is an amazing series, ive seen and researched many of these watches myself but never find as much detail as a hidden gems episode on one. Mark is an important figure in the watch industry

The Seamaster 600 & the Speedmaster 125 (cal. 1041) are 2 of my favorite over engineered Omega watches! Thanks for the great content!

Really good job! You should do an episode on all black watches as statements of the owner's style. Please include the DSOM black black

I have a 1200 PloProf … it’s absolutely amazing and wears so comfortably. I have all the Rolexes too … but this Omega is just so much more interesting.

I didn't remember that Gianni Agnelli used to wear a Ploprof, but I remembered that he usually wore his watches over the shirt cuff.

Thanks for the review! Thumbs up for a lot of info in a fairly short video. Very understandable and well put together👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼. There we‘re a few titanium case prototypes from the original 70ies ploprof👍🏼. But due the cost, difficult manufacturing and Ti availabiltiy, it was just not possible for series production. Love the ploprof. One of my favourite iconic watches out there👍🏼

Great video and interesting watch. I always enjoy this series. The see-through case back seems a little out of place on this watch. However, doesn't seem to have affected the the depth rating.

The info on the 904 steel is great. When I worked for a Rolex AD, no one there could ever tell me why they used 904. I didn't want to use that term when talking to a customer because I couldn't tell them why it's better than 316.

While indeed slightly more corrosion resistant, 904L is also softer, so more prone to scratches, contains 25% nickel wich is know to cause allergic reactions, is somewhat easier to polish. Overall, not a very good steel for the end consumer, more of a marketing gimmick. No wonder Omega abandoned his use fairly quikcly. If you want extreme corrosion reststance, there is far better options like titanium or LC200N, H1and other Nitrogen based steel if you want to combine corrosion resistance to hardness. Companies like Sinn for example do a far better job than Rolex in terms of materials used.

I love learning about cool pieces however, i dont know if you guys keep track of this but this channel's graphs for views and subs on socialblade have been down since march and id hate to see the channel fail as it was one of the first i started watching when i joined the online watch community. A year ago we had buying guides, 3 watch collection, the watch guessing videos, the tutorials, videos like "which watch would marvel characters wear" and "7 most absurd watches money can buy" The Omega buying guide has ~208k views right now and the most views on a Hidden Gem video is ~18k and the best video since that buying guide is ~27k. I just think the way the channel has been trending is leaving a lot of money on the table. Im excited to see whats in the pipeline though and to learn more with every video.

ISO certification does not exist, ISO is a standard and that's it.

The original ploprof was 904 l steel , amazing omega managed to do this many years before Rolex "invented it " . Of course rolex didnt invent 904 steel but many think they did,.

Not sure your correct about the helium valve. The tuna is saturation iso certified and has no escape valve. Also the new ultra deep is certified with no valve.

A quote from the manual for my watch page 50 states “This watch is specially designed for use in saturation diving, which requires helium gas” My tuna is a Seiko Marine Master Professional SBBN031 and on the back it is marked as per ISO 6425 “He-GAS DIVERS 300m”. He-GAS stands for helium gas and 300m means 300 meters depth. When Seiko was developing the Tuna in the 70’s (for subsea saturation divers) they invented an L shaped gasket that made the watch Helium resistant. A quote from a gear patrol article - “This alone isn’t a problem, but when the diving bell is slowly decompressed to return the divers to sea-level pressure, those atoms expand in size and the rise in pressure inside the watch causes it to explode with catastrophic effect. Other watch companies responded to this problem by fitting the case with a one-way gas-relief valve, but Seiko’s L-shaped gasket obviated that need, as the watch was impenetrable.” Seiko's website The history of Seiko diver's watches - "What is a true diver’s watch? From the introduction in 1965 as Japan’s first diver’s watch, the engineers never stopped to innovate. The trust this watch has gained goes beyond the borders of Japan and into the world. As a result, Seiko facilitated the establishment of the standard for diver’s watches in International Standard Organization (ISO), and Japan Industrial Standards (JIS). As for the ISO, Seiko lobbied the organization to amend the standard to match the actual use of diver’s watches in the deep sea. In 1996, ISO6425 with annex, about diver’s watches for mixed gas diving, was issued. Seiko’s relentless challenge and innovation have driven the company to create a model that could truly be called authentic." My other Seiko divers are marked as such Samurai - AIR DIVERS’S 200M, Turtle - DIVER’S WATCH 200M, SUMO - DIVER’S WATCH 200M and SKX - SCUBA DIVER’S. They are marked this way as they are not rated for saturation diving as they are sometimes referred to as “AIR” Divers as per ISO ratings. So much like the original Ploprof and the new Omega Ultra Deep the professional Tuna watches are resistant to Helium and have been specially designed to be used in a helium rich environment with no problems at all.

Dumb question, how do you use the bezel while the watch is on your wrist? If you’re diving with dive tables, you’ll need to articulate the bezel in order to time your decompression stops.

Nice watch but MM300 is still the benchmark for real divers and Sub is the benchmark for desk divers!!
