Thank you. I was warned a few years back DON'T buy a house with stairs. I was like they will keep me younger. I appreciate this video. I was right.

I lost 40 lbs since the beginning of covid by using the stairs in my apartment building . I incorporate all kinds of squats , stretching and push ups . I also go for hikes and walks . You really don't need a gym to stay fit . The only thing I miss about the Y is the pool .

The Rehab clinics in the hospital that I worked at were on the 4th floor. The Rehab wards were on the 12th floor. Once my patients got walking again, be it due to strokes, amputations, hip and knee replacements,...elevators were no longer an option. I would meet my patient on the ward, and we took the steps down to the 4th floor. Then we did the rehab exercises for an hour or so, and once the patient was tired, we took the stairs back to the 12th floor. It took time to build the endurance so we would start with just one floor, and add floors as strength and endurace improved. I used the heart rate to determiine how much effort the patient was putting into the climb. I agree, stairs are a great exercise device.

I use a set of stairs up to a lookout near my home for exercise. Coming down I make sure to engage the leg muscles to control my decent rather than let gravity do the work.
