-----------
STORY
Palace Burnay was commissioned by a Portuguese count and designed by an Italian architect. Completed in 1734, it served as the summer retreat for the Saldanha family until its acquisition in 1879 by a wealthy businessman and philanthropist: Count Henrique Burnay.
After his death in 1909, the palace became the property of the state and, in the 20th century, the palace went from a summer retreat to the administrative headquarters of the Technical University of Lisbon.
As the university occupied the palace, it underwent further renovations to adapt to its needs, while keeping in mind the palace's historical and architectural significance.
Now, in 2024, there are talks of a future investment that aims to revive Burnay Palace. We will go more in-depth on this topic later on, including the full history of the palace and its many residents.
In the meantime, Burnay Palace awaits restoration amidst ongoing acts of vandalism and theft.
More history to discover within the video!!

University tour that place apart to make it their own they should be responsible for rebuilding it back to where it was. At least maintained enough to where people can’t get in and do any more damage. I know it would cost a sheer fortune. But it should be their obligation after tearing it all apart

Beautiful palace in desperate need of restoration. Glad to hear the Portuguese government is in the process of restoring the place, turning it into a museum of historic Portuguese art and artifacts. It would be foolhardy to allow such a grand, beautiful place and grounds to be lost. It's a glorious historical testament; a small important piece of the country's rich history.

Another beautiful video. I was happy to see Danny given his due in the closing credits for his filming and editing work. I think the University of Lisbon, who has a school of architecture by the way (!!!???), has much to be ashamed of for allowing the building to deteriorate. It's wonderful to hear that there are new plans and a substantial amount of money apparently planned to save and restore and renovate. Hopefully, the building and grounds will quickly be secured and restoration will begin very soon. Great job guys. Thank you for sharing with us.

Everything is absolutely gorgeous and should be preserved not changed for government! Such craftsmanship and elegance! Opulent ceilings and fantastic mosaics and stained glass! Hi Lesley, If this was in the UK, English Heritage would have this listed as Grade 1 historical. and have this restored. Get the voluteers involved, too. They would have this cleaned up, and looking good in no time. Such a waste letting it get run down like that. The Portugese government needs a prod in the backside.

Why don't colleges or universities get volunteers to come in and clean up these places and form some type of union to create fundraising for this place? Hey dear Lesley, I had to rewatch the amazing documentation about this fascinating and historically significant monumental palace in Lisbon. Wow, Lesley I admire your thorough appreciation and your incredible knowledge, when you were presenting the palace. And - of course I loved your very elegant attire of an early 20th century gentleman. It fits you perfectly, even the way how you were walking and holding your cane,..oh my the perfect gentleman of that by gone period! In this way you gave new life to the once wonderful halls and rooms of this location. Of course there were luckily still a lot of the original decors from the late 19th century of the Burnay aera, still showing the splendor of that aera back in the days. Of course I also hate seeing these awful traces of brainless vandalism and ugly graffity. I loved the beautiful ceilings and that breathtakingly elaborate grand entrance hall with the double stair case. - After my opinion they should have retained the palace and the surrounding gardens in exactly the way it was still in the 1940-ies. All these beautiful priceless interior decorations, the furniture, the chandeliers, the tapestries, the paintings,.. and so on would have resulted into a magnificient museal palace into the present time. When I saw the photographs showing the state of the early 20th century, I can only say, that it's such a shame, seeing now this place stripped of its valuable interior of considerable art historical significance. - For instance in the UK quite a number of grand mansions, castles and palaces are kept in their original state with all the lavish interiors, like for instance Longleat Manor and Blenheim Palace. - I am glad to hear, that there are at least plans to renovate and preserve this historical location, which is truly an architectural gem! Dear Lesley I found your documentation so excellent, that I could imagine it to be presented for instance on Discovery channel. Also Dannys camera work was simply excellent in combination with the background music. Thank you so very much for sharing this unique explore, bro. Wishing you all the best, many hugs, peace and kindest regards.

This has to be the finest mansion you have ever shown us. What a gorgous place. To let this to get even this bad is a crime to every person in the world. Its just disgusting. The government of this country should be totally ashamed of them selves. They should resign from office. To let this place rot to ruin makes me sick. I just cant get over this stupidity of the fools that are responsible for this disgrace. I feel so bad for you Lesley. Doing all you can do to try to save these works of art knowing that it could be all for nothing. Its biger than you or myself to do anything to save these incredible mansions. Dust to dust will be what happends to everything on earth. We do have the power to save some of this things until the end of man on earth

What a great documentary and place! Thank you for taking us there! I wonder if all those channels that do immense gardening tasks for free could to content for their channels, and also help cleaning the garden areas? Would be amazing to see as well! - By the way, I LOVE the fact you dressed up for the occasion!

You look very handsome in those clothes! Love it! I've seen it before with Finders Beepers, History Seekers, but I don't mind another look. Such a wonderful location! I wish they would fix it!

This palace is absolutely stunning...ceilings are beautiful...and the detail in the architecture is gorgeous..what a shame it is to see the graffiti and it falling into disrepair...and what a privilege it is to watch this...we have nothing even close to this in Canada..so thankyou so much!!..fantastic documentary..
