Hiblow HP-80 start up issue, wont run, may not be a diaphragm issue!

My Hiblow HP80 would not turn on, then when it did, it didn't seem to produce any air. Upon further inspection, a contact had vibrated loose inside the cover and it turned out not be a diaphragm issue at all. It appears Hiblow has this contact and another version, but both seem to be problem prone. I hope this helps you if you have the same issue.

Thank you so very much for this post. I have been racking my brain, searching the net, every website, video, etc, bc when I installed the HIblow HP80 rebuild kit I could not find where the breakaway screw could go, and I have installed hundreds of HP 150/200's but never an 80. After I switched the white clip from one side to the other, daba bing, bada boom, works great. However, I suggest not cable tieing it, it's there to prevent the aerator from overheating and burning up.

Stupid thing to do. That white clip is the safety fuse for when the diaphragms blow.. do not cable tie it in.

I have never seen a piece of plastic with no metal contacts acting as a fuse. The diaphragms are not blown and still work fine a year later with this fix. I'm not saying everyone should do it, but it worked for me.

@@upnorthmike6085 When a diaphragm fails it will drag the white switch depressor of the switch arm stopping the electricity. You are defeating the safety. The older design had a plastic screw that would shear when a diaphragm failed allowing the magnet block to exceed its travel.

Had the same problem. I ended up doing this not knowing. It pumped bubbles for about 5 min and stoped completely but was still running. Ended up the diaphragm was bad. If you do this and your diaphragm goes out. You may burn up your pump. No expert here, just a dumbass with a pond!! 😂

It's a safety switch and it's supposed to prevent the unit from further damage when the diaphragms have failed (which is expected after a few years). This solution may have been appropriate for upnorth mike but I agree with you. Do this at your own peril.
