Hi Mixsensei, in relation to the Autumn Love our third single, I guess you might be able to get it on Amazon etc. However, it is on our album Titled Hi Tension. In relation to the video I produced the post-production of the video with the informal interview in a wine bar together with the funk groove in the back-ground (which I hope you liked) (smile). Island Records will hold the original production of that video.

When my brother David Joseph left the band and went solo, Hi Tension began to reduce. Jeffrey Guishard, Leroy Williams and me were the last surviving members. It is with great pleasure for me to say that we loved working alongside David (Pic) Connerley from Surface - the original song writer and producer of You Make Me Happy. Hi Tension are currently in discussion and have a few things in the pipeline. WATCH THIS SPACE!!!

Hey B, this jam will always be in my heart for various reasons. Believe it or not, I’ve met David through my cousin who runs the Distinc-shun road show. This version of Happy and You Can’t Hide Your Love are played in my home every week. Groups like yours, Loose Ends etc moulded my musical taste to this day and I thank you for it. Technically, Surface wrote it, and then Hi-Tension performed it, and then Surface went back and recorded their own version.

@@rockym9981 Ah okay I just double checked. Kind of weird how all of that played out. That would be like if Rod Temperton (who wrote Thriller for MJ) came out with his own version of thriller that sounded more or less, the same.

I remember being really pissed after reading in Blues & Soul that Surface were going to release a version of this brilliant tune. Although their version ended up being a very close second to this original, this is one that truly makes me happy. Wonderful.

Was 20 yrs old in 84 when first heard hi - tension..massive tune.. clubs(you get into )/soul alldayers....4 yrs later...surface ...took it there again....

still, best version raw music not messed with

i continue to be amazed at all of this music that came out of the UK during the 80's. i was in the Army then and had a chance to go to either Europe or Korea and spent several tours over there instead but its all good. Thanks for the wonderful music.

it was fun hearing Lil Duvals song "Sexy" and recognizing the melody was from R.Kellys "Only the Loot" and then finding out it was sampled from Surfaces "Happy" and then finding out Surface remixed it from Hi-Tension, how far music can travel sometimes from artist to artist is really cool.

I remember seeing Hi Tension at Lyceum singing, 'You make me happy' back in about 1984 and loved every moment. Brought to us by Horizon Radio pirate station. I sang my heart out to this and still love it! Excellent!

My all-time favorite tune

I've never heard this band. but I came here in search of another band called hi tension, yes there's another band called that!! just spelled a bit different as I found out. They were a Metal band from 1987. It's crazy what you find when looking for old bands!

Absolute Classic! Love both the versions, but this one has a special vibe to it. Remember driving around in my car bumping this track on full volume. God bless High Tension! Look forward to more great music from them..

just listen to this its raw but rings the bells it does make me happy surface did there version i liked it but this is the best one by far its got fkin soul

I'm just now discovering this great track about a year ago and when I played it in front of my mom she told me that she had this lp Long before the Surface version came and I was shocked and thrilled to learn this was the original. I've searched up and down to download it and so far can't find it but here on YT. But I love the song and this and surface version both have their own great vibes and mellow sounds so I'd like to thank Dave Conley and crew and Most importantly The folks in Hi Tension for making this wonderful jam. After 38 years it's still bussin and me at 35 am enjoying it all the way over here in Sunny North Florida in 2022 going into 23 and beyond

Both cuts are off the scale in my book. I have the 'Surface ' version on an old TDK SA 90 ( yep - and it STILL plays!) If I really REALLY had to decide, hi tension take it by a hair, due to the fact that some of the guys went to my sister's school so indirectly, i ' know ' some of them! Ok, I'm fishing here! Lol

Hi tension were the best soul/funk group to come out of this country. I have the album on vinyl and cd and I am still playing it to this very day. Only this morning in the car actually!! Thank you Mr Joseph sir for giving me some great memories.

I remember when this version came out. As a swedish native this was "the underground" of our dancefloors. I love both versions (Surface included) . This kind of music wasn't big as the Italo sound were "the thing" but this is my postdisco music for me!

I was playing The Surface version of this today, As it`s on my iPod, I think it`s on The Wind Down Zone Volume 1 CD and looking on the internet you can still buy it ;-)

Nothing was polished about the London, pirate radio station, Jazz Funk, house party scene in the 80's, so this is why this version will always be the one for me. 4:44 - 5:56 - Surface arrangement version can't touch it. Obviously grateful to Surface for bringing the song to the UK in the first place, but London was where it was happening at the time.

ok. now that I see all comments and oppinions about which one is the better version, I have to give my 2 cents, too. being a music junky since day 1, I must admit, that all versions are perfect. but if I had to choose, I would go with the female singer on Camelot II - Happy (Rap Version). Especially in the beginning when she starts singing: " heyyyy... makin' me so happy..." the raps aren't that good, but it was a nice sample and if you don't know what track I am talking about, just check it here on youtube.

I can remember when I bought this in a shop called preedys in Acton.surface copied it but done the original no justice in my opinion..I know I’m right.

Not heard this version before, now it’s a toss up between Hi Tension & Surface. Both versions are very good, in their own way. That said, the Surface version was mine & the Wife’s Wedding song - in 1990 - so will always tip the balance for me. Still gets belted out, on a regular basis, whenever the opportunity arises :)
