I have obsessively watched dozens of reactions to this song. This may be the best. Almost no one else brought up the fact that "bad"Ren is telling "good" Ren to kill himself. Also...picking up on the celebratory nature of the singing at the end....really good man

I couldnt agree more with Lawrence. I've watched easily dozens of these reaction videos (I love watching people have this almost profound experience reacting to this song) - and this is 100% the best reaction and analysis I've seen for sure. Truly great job and helping to unpack all these details of the song, the cadence, the structure - you picked up on so many things that I hadn't noticed at all in other reactions!! Loved it, thank you

The same!! I think this is my 50th reaction video. When he said “pendulum” I gasped! This was the most spot on analysis I’ve seen. It was poignant enough to make me cry. First one I’ve seen to remark that the voice changes after the demonic passage. He has synergized the light and the dark. He starts on the dark bass notes and before he sings his first verse of hope, he deftly floats in the high notes while still integrating the bass notes until they are drowned out. And yes the singing with abandon at the end with both lights flickering as if to say “Bring it on, Darkness, I’ll meet you with the Light and we’ll let the sparks fly! I need you to strengthen me!”

What an absolutely brilliant, insightful, in depth analysis. I am a psychologist and you picked up on themes that even I hadn’t even picked up on (and I have done a lot of deep thinking about this song, and watched countless reaction videos). You have really made me think. You are clearly a really deep thinker and I’m glad I found this channel :)

Oh my Lord, I have missed you so much. You have this passion in the way that you speak. You used to call them "rants". You explain things in such a way, that there is no doubt. You have got to be one of the most genuine people I have had the pleasure of viewing. Ok enough of that. I thought that you might start with this one. Ren is taking the internet by storm. Rightly so. I knew that it was going to all that people were saying and so much more. He so expertly described the mind's battle and the extremes of it. The one side being dark and hard. While the other side was nearly childlike and innocent. It was truly an incredible dramatic piece put to music. Ending with the perfect monologue summing it all up. What I take away from this, is try to strive for center. The closer the get, the smaller the swings. Anyway, thank you again and welcome back. May your day be filled with hope, joy and love. Share it with EVERYONE you come in contact with. The world will be a better place. 😸

I've loved watching the evolution of emotion cycle through people. First, bewildered respect and semi confusion with the guitar and vocals. Then comes the enjoyment of the conversation between the two sides. Next comes the grimace with a bit of a pullback during the darks rant. And lastly the tears and utter awe struck feeling of hope. I'll say it again, it's as if Ren pulls out your soul, lays it bare and puts it back better than before. I can't thank you enough for your insights into why this song makes me feel the way it does. Really beautiful in-the-moment analysis; by now I've watched what seems like a million reactions to Hi Ren, and very few of them rise to this level. The song is so lyrically dense, it's entirely understandable that even EXCELLENT reactors might "miss" all sorts of stuff so I never fault them if a bunch of stuff slips through their fingers & can enjoy those reactions too, but I love when someone REALLY gets so much of it on first listen. Fantastic reaction. Thank you! In the last verse after he does his singing and goes into the triumphant humming or howling, The lights begin to Flash like they only did when the character was the darker part of him. I think that perfectly draws together the duality of man. Many christians take this as only a fight with the darkness or the devil. I can see the Christian perspective but I think the deeper meaning of the story is that when we no longer shrink from that voice in our head that tends to be negative and dark and seems to always overpower. And when we actually incorporate that power in our outward life we can triumph. Ren is truly an amazingly special gift to us. He is a unicorn Swiss army knife of talent wirh a way of using every blade and tool wirh surgical prowess.

great reaction, thanks for sharing your thoughts! the "she sells seashells on a sea shore" has some kind of double meaning: first, it underlines the doubts, that he is not capable of writing his own lyrics, he is depending on inspiration and "steals" good stuff from other, even when it is an old tongue-twister, and second, its some kind of reminiscence to his song "money game part 2", where he took this line as some kind of basestructure of how economics work nowadays. funnily, this brought different people on the trip, when it was used as a meme in a luigi-video.

The pause was managed well, the wet skin becomes the excell, the over powered sought hell, the dry eyes look for the clientele, the queues, part of the cartel, the prophet won't speak to infidels, the dream of flying gazelles, the prey knells to beats that foretell. #Qcumbersquad #Ren - Fil, I'm off back to the study. I fully agree, Fil.

Firstly, great reaction. Very insightful. Secondly, the "Loosen the noose on the rope" line was an Effen BAR and I'm glad you had such a visceral reaction to it. I'm sure other reactors haven't all missed it, and perhaps were just too entranced to comment, but it's a heccen bar my man!

Dude. When you said that about the pendulum it gave me goosebumps hearing that because I knew what was coming. I love your reaction as REN is a very intelligent young man as you can probably tell. I knew that everything he did had a reason. It was supposed to be there so I loved when you broke it down to some reasoning I'm pretty sure you're right. I love it I've watched him for a bit infact I can't quit watching him. He's about the age of my son who is no longer with me. As I'm finding out more things about REN he had brought me out of the dark place I was sliding into. I've lost all of my family & the guilt & shame I felt was overpowering me. I know my son would have loved him. Both my kids would have & I feel them with me & I feel like it's Ok. I'm going to be Ok. I'm not alone with my feelings because others feel the same. I've watched grown men cry like I did the 1st time. I love watching the reactions so much because you can just tell he's touching them in one way or another & they are so lost in the video they forget they're supposed to be reacting cause they're really reacting but it's in the raw. I'm sure you'll probably do some research on him. I know he was sick for a long time. When he was stuck in his room for a while he really had a lot of time studying music. He knew how to make this happen. I feel so proud of him.

Thank you very much for sharing this. I'm very sorry to hear about your kids. I do agree with you, artists like this are incredibly important, it's just a pity that society at large don't appreciate people like Ren and prefer to push the music that's empty.

Brilliant! You are the ONLY reactor I've watched review this who's picked up on all these various deeper nuances; inferences & comparisons to other artists (a few got Eminem); the progression/taunting/resolution of different aspects of his internal personae; the change in cadence at the end (1 other noted that tbf); & the change in the intro & ending. You did make an analogy to it being representative of a pendulum. I really enjoyed hearing your thoughts & absolutely agree that this piece is masterful. I admire Ren tremendously for sharing something so personal. It's resonated with a lot of people. I'm definitely one of them. Great reaction.

Hi, @thefablesphere, First time watcher, and new subscriber. This was an absolutely excellent video that really did a fantastic job of breaking down this song. You’ll have to forgive me for finding it difficult to believe that this was your first time listening to this art piece, because if you watch other reactions, most of them get so absorbed in the magic of what is happening in front of them, that their brain short circuits. You hit so many points, and I think the gift of your reaction is if this is the first time people stumble across this masterpiece, you lay it out for them so beautifully . Well done. I’d like to add one observation. You are right, and that he starts out as defensive and trying to explain himself to his shadow. It almost comes across like he’s as much trying to convince himself as he is trying to convince his darker side. As the argument progresses, it becomes progressively clearer that you can not argue with an entity that will just shift gears and paint you into a corner. His desire to kill this darker aspect of himself is honest and raw. It is when the darker side escalates that he surrenders and excepts that without darkness you cannot know light. They go together in the polarity that is the universe. Insides and outsides. Crests and troughs. And he integrates. His resolve comes not from being unable to “defeat” his shadow but in accepting it and learning to dance with it while staying grounded in his light. It’s magnificent and I can’t stop watching it. React to more Ren please and if this was a true first watch, then you, my friend , have clearly done some self work and reflection. Either way , great job.

Excellent reaction and analysis! The performance follows a music maker's journey or method. I like how his guitar playing gets a little messed up in the beginning, as the creative process is developing, and the voice of doubt creeps in. Then the singing in the beginning is a technique of just singing nonsense and the words will come later. Then when he tries to shut out the voice of doubt, he starts to stumble again on the guitar. In the end he finds the words, the nonsense singing even expands and then the song is left on an unresolved chord.
