0:27 Chai's arm isn't broken, btw. Chai is a canonically disabled character. The creators themselves said that, since he was born, his arm never really worked properly. Which is exactly why he got the Project Armstrong arm. It wasn't to kickstart his rockstar career by getting popular with a cool robot arm, it was because without it, he literally could not play guitar. Cool-ass detail. It's also heavily implied that he isn't actually confident, but acts over-confident to hide the fact that he's insecure. As the game goes on, he acts less confident because he realized that he has friends that don't care about his insecurities. It's also lightly implied & theorized that his arm never really working properly is one of those reasons he's insecure.

So that’s why all battle OST with lyrics in original soundtrack heavenly implies that Chai tired be quiet and on the backstage. Since he never actually got any chance to follow his dream of becoming musician, and getting PA arm maybe was only chance for him

not gonna lie the best part of this game is the fact that the characters grow with the story chai and pepper hate each other but eventually learn to respect another, and even on an individual level chai becomes less self-centered and pepper learns to be more vulnerable

This game truly is a masterpiece. It felt more to me like God of War 3 instead of DMC.

Well, it makes sense as it has the Light and Strong attacks where as DMC has essentially one attack button where if you press other buttons it changes how the attack button works.

Between Nora from atomic heart and Smidge from this game, fridges are getting a weird amount of .... attention

I honestly like Peppermint's design, and don't really understand why people don't. I don't see anything immediately wrong with her design.

Different strokes I guess. 😄 For me I don’t like her color scheme and her hair cut. The half shave can work but it’s general shape is not visually appealing here. For her colors I would’ve used a slightly warmer brown to contrast the blue. I’m also kind tired of her specific personality in female characters and would like some variety. That said apparently she becomes warmer over time so that’s good.

Korsika is best lady. She just seems really nice to talk with. 34:56 This game is amazingly upbeat and fun just to watch alone. This Haiku bit is SO CHARMING. 38:35 Ok, hear me out, I genuinely would watch a show written by this team. Their characters are so perfectly written for that fun Saturday morning feel good stuff.

I didn’t know I needed a beat-em-up rhythm game in my life until I watched J stream this. So much fun! Edit: also the soundtrack! I cannot stop re-listening to “the beacon”, “to big to fail”, “the rush” and of course _”negotiation”._

There's another game, Metal: Hellsinger. It's just metal music as you shoot to the beat to increase your score multiplier through levels. Think of DMC with each multiplier increases instruments.

This is probably my favorite play through out there. You play the whole game, you’re a Korsika fan, and the your sick combination of skills and being funny. Good work lad.

We should hold every AAA game to almost this level of care

Hi Fi Rush has become one of my favorite games of all time and watching JFJ play through it live was a blast

This game is like if Persona 5 were a Saturday morning cartoon

K, if J's gonna thirst for Korsica the whole time, then I get dibs on Peppermint. I like tomboys and I actually really like her design. Yes, the berating gets irritating in the first... quarter of the game, but her character arc is actually pretty damn good.

Just beat this a few days ago. Reminded me of watching a Saturday morning Kid's WB show and the fact that it's a playable game with rhythm as the main focus just makes my inner musician happy. Soundtrack is great, too. TWO NIN SONGS! That alone should sell you on it!

The main difference I see between this and DMC is that DMC wants you to let loose with combos, and the music is the reward. This game wants you to follow the rhythm of the music, and rewards you based on that.

Love this game so much, opening with Lonely Boy was the biggest green light I’d ever hear for a game

CNMN is the same VA for the Courier's brain from Old World Blues.

Man, it fills me with joy to see this game just universally loved.

Worth it!

The tremolo combo is an actual drug (Heavy, light, light) But this game is awesome

The fact this game's extremely high quality and people actually like it gives me hope for the games industry

The funny think about J's one complaint with the game and its cooldowns it that theres actually a way to get around them. Most special moves tend to break shields and Peppermint's Cannon Spike and can break multiple shields and Macaron's Love Tap breaks most Z-Shielding instantly and has a shorter cooldown that a normal summon. Either way it was cool to see J enjoy himself with whats my game of the year so far

Honestly i'm surprised he had issues with that Outside of the first few fights (cause you're not supposed to do big ass combos at that point), i found the time ranks to be pretty lenient The actual point score part of the ranking was way more diffcult for me, you basically have to spam jam combos and or do overkills to get the 100 hit combo bonus for some of them Unless i missed something

Yo J, go back after beating it you can customize characters looks and if you replay missions you can unlock special areas along with some after game content.

I'm so happy you got to experience what has easily become one of my absolute favorite games of all time. If I may make a suggestion, replay this game on your own time with Streamer Mode off. Every Boss Song, as well as a few stage songs (the lead-up to CNMN's epic moment, the cafeteria scene, etc) are replaced with licensed songs, and they are fantastic. You have songs like Lonely Boy (by the Black Keys) as the intro song, Invaders Must Die is the song in the cafeteria scene, and Kale's boss fight? The Perfect Drug, by Nine Inch Nails. Absolutely a treat to experience.
