Great episodes! The author is really building the suspense surrounding Alex! I hope cooler heads prevail, but we are talking about politicians who never want to admit they screwed up and accept the consequences of their actions! I'm hoping the GC tells the Terrans that the GC is willing to go to war if Alex is not returned to his ship position!

I get it, if you are in the military and can't keep secrets then everyone dies. But man, you would think there would have been a protocol to deal with a downed mech.

The Yalayans are the reason for this conflict. They were itching for a fight but were to chickenshit to fight their other members. So they thought humans would be an easy target based upon our size. Sadly, they may have doomed their whole species. The substandard quality of the mech was also to blame. SO was the whole stupid idea to lie about humanity. Sure, keeping the location of our Sol System is prudent, but not being transparent about our physical uniqueness will cause more problems in the long run. Sadly, politicians are so used to lying that they can't help it.

I have serious questions for the sol govt in this one. 1. why have professional standards lapsed to the point a ship is named "fuck around and find out"? And 2. How long did they expect this charade to last?

    1) right, the current military professionalism the drew a sky penis? With the exception of a few poor bastards with a terminal case of stickupanusitis lots of juvenile humor goes around. 2) governments always sweep landmines under the rug and refuse to acknowledge them until they explode.Their politicians were probably hoping to skate on by until it was the next person’s problem.

If they wanted a martyr protocol for the mech drivers then they should’ve installed an incinerator as well as a self destruct. I’ll have to go back and see if it specifically mentioned what would happen if the driver was incapacitated

Last one of these for a while, as he's only up to chapter 48 published, unless our good youtuber has an inside with the author. It's a good place to stop for a while, not really a cliffhanger, more just a point where the story transitions from one plotline to the next, so it's not that bad. And as I and others have said, blaming Alex is stupid in this case. It IS what a human government would do in this situation, as blaming the mech company who authorized an older model to go out on this mission, or the protocols that allowed it to go out without the specific mission specs being known would make it the fault of a powerful person, rather than this pleb. That is how stuff works in any government. Still, given the setting details, Aeva's connection, and the fact that this happened on board a 'foreign flagged' vessel, there are likely many, many ways to keep the guy from suffering too much, especially if they make it known that punishing him too harshly will be looked darkly upon by other powers. Beyond that, the Yalayans need to be dealt with now. Again, they tried for a capital strike, not knowing this wasn't the Terran Capital, just the one they knew about. Now? Now Terrans get to have fun with the big bugs, and show off any tech they might have been sitting on, or fleets they kept hidden. And that is the Yalayans' biggest flaw in all this. They assume the humans were keeping one secret. But if you can keep the physicality of your race hidden for decades long enough for them to become common sights in ports the galaxy over, what is the likelihood that's the ONLY secret you have?

If the politicians had been honest about the human size, there probably would have been a war right from the beginning, maybe we would be ill equipped at that point in time to defending our selves or the world.
