Some of the best times of my 30 yr career was as an FTO, made a lot of good friends through our training together. When I retired in 1997 I was the patrol division commander (captain) and took a keen interest in who our FTOs were. Anyone who told a newbie to forget everything they learned in the academy was removed from the FTO program after being warned.

Rookie, If you see a fellow officer doing something unlawful or violent, Stop them, It is your duty, Or you can help them and be sued for it... And lose your badge and ruin your life.
Great advice that so many new police officers need to hear! Even some of the vets! Thank you for your work sir!

Why are most cops obese alcoholics then?. Sheriff 'Officer' eh. You must be one of those literate pigs.
The part about gaining weight is something that I’ve seen a lot from cop friends that I have. However, I’ll never forget the time I had an incident in Beverly Hills, California, and three cops showed up and all three looked like they were CrossFit instructors.

I hear “don’t try to change anything” a lot from police officers and non police officers my thing is if it’s my traffic stop or my call I’m policing my way unless a supervisor comes and takes control or someone else has a better way of doing it then me or if I’m out of line or out of control but I’m not gonna let someone get me too that place ever.

They might mean don’t try to change anything about the department when you’re new? But so far as doing what works for you and learning your own style as it varies from others…have at it 👍 and change it up as need be. Always learning in this job 💪

We met online. Wait, that sounded wrong. HAHA! Long story short, we connected via LinkedIn but we already knew some of the same people through the small world of law enforcement. When I travelled to Texas we met up and we have worked together on helping fellow officers since, mainly through Heroes and Families United Non-Profit.

Take the time to actually learn the laws you're enforcing. Basic ID and trespass laws are two of the law's you get wrong, and it ends up costing the taxpayer's unnecessarily. Stop running people through the system because you can. Stop earning the hate.
