    I usually have a play, make it up as I go along, and then try to simplify it for an easy to follow video :) I just love playing with canes, they are so much fun, and the more you do, the more you learn about which colours work well together, how much 'quiet' space you need to leave, how to have one stronger element, how to make a line that goes from one to the other. You should see the amount of 'learning experience' canes I made when I was still figuring it all out, that ended up in the scrap pile. So don't worry about planning them, add a couple of elements you like, pad it out with a couple of plain skinner blends, and then reduce and kaleidoscope. Don't stress over it, just have fun :)

    Hi Fiona, I adore your work and your tutorials. I can't imagine how you can dream these up. The problem that I have is that my six pieces don't seem to be enough. They do not match up. They look like they need seven or eight slices. Any suggestions? Thanks for your tutorials.

  • @FionaAbelSmithPolyOriginals

    @FionaAbelSmithPolyOriginals

    3 жыл бұрын

    Thanks Ginny. That sounds as though your triangle isn't equilateral ? When you take a slice are all the sides, and corner angles looking the same ? the easiest way to check is to get (or download and print off) a piece of 360 degree graph paper. mark out 60 degrees, and sit you cane slice into the angles, one corner at a time. My guess it that they will not be 60 degrees on each one. Change them slightly to get that angle right, and they should match perfectly. I hope that helps :) print-graph-paper.com/Default/DownloadPolar?&paperSize=letter&orientation=portrait&act=print

    Im super late to this video but I was wondering what pasta machine you use? It seems as though you have a nice one and with all the options its very confusing on which one to buy. I love your videos btw!

    Thanks so much Franki :) I get asked about pasta machines a lot, so now have a stock answer which I will add here. I normally suggest people buy what they can afford though, the more expensive machines are better, but even they will eventually break or become less effective over time, so balance the expense of the machine you buy with the amount of claying you will be doing. I hope this helps :) The pasta machine I use is an Atlas machine, at home I use the 180 (a wider machine) and when travelling or on workshops, I use the 150. I have always used the Atlas machines and I find them very good for Polymer Clay. However, there are other very good makes, such as the Imperia machines, and of course those made specifically for use with Polymer Clay. Ginger Davis Allman, from The Blue Bottle Tree has a number of articles on Pasta Machines - thebluebottletree.com/?s=pasta+machines which may prove helpful in choosing a machine. Here is a link to an Atlas machine, (for reference only, as obviously there are many other places both online, and in stores where they can be found), and it is worth searching around till you can find a good deal on one. I hope that is of some help. www.amazon.com/Marcato-8320-Machine-Cutter-Instructions/dp/B0009U5OSO/ref=sr_1_3?crid=BPH5K7P26RQT&keywords=atlas+pasta+machine&qid=1556786279&s=gateway&sprefix=atlas+pasta+machine%2Caps%2C211&sr=8-3

    Hi, I just started making fimo again and I'm new to all that liquid fimo stuff can someone answer that question plz?? I just saw a video that explain how to make " liquid fimo" by playing a bit with it in hot water to make some kind of paste to use with your creations. So I was thinking... can it still work or do I ABSOLUTELY need to buy that lil'bottle of liquid fimo???? Tyvm for all your video, keep up the good work!! I learned alot . I mean.. ALOT from you :D :D

    I haven't seen that video yet, so can't comment on it. However, as far as I am aware, Liquid clay is different to the normal firmer polymer clay. Have you checked out the Blue Bottle Tree site? Ginger has articles that cover most things polymer clay, and I am sure you will find the answer there :) thebluebottletree.com/ However, if you are only using the liquid clay to 'glue' one piece of polymer to the other, then you can always use a bit of PVA glue instead. It does work, but doesn't form quite as strong a bond as liquid clay would, but no piece I have ever used PVA glue on has come apart as yet, and I've been doing this a while ;) I hope that helps :)

    Fiona, I cannot tell you how many times I've watched that tutorial. I absolutely love it! Also, the concept of dimensions and measuring six exact triangles apparently does not exist in my world lol! It's utterly ridiculous how very many pieces of card stock, tape, paper, even different measuring tools! A paper cutter! I will absolutely look below and see what is there. Thank you for all you do and teach! God bless

    I talk throughout the videos as a way to explain what I am doing when, most poeple seem to like it as it helps with the indepth tutorial. However you can always mute the sound so you don't have to hear me ;) There are also lots of polymer artists / tutorials which have no voice over at all, so there are lots of different styles of tutors for people to chose from. I do show every step, so couldn't really show any more than I already do ;)

    @@FionaAbelSmithPolyOriginals You unnecessarily explain what everyone sees that you do better to show what you do than describe what you do with words, that's why your films are so long and turning off your voice will not do anything else, they are long, because I do not mind your voice and wasting valuable time translating everything that you do. you can see anyway.
