Back in the day they were a good clutch, the longer hex bushing works better.

I have a 77 cheetah and i just went through the clutch and bushings are all worn out. I built a new washer for the shaft and it tightened up the spider a bit. Where did you source the hex bushings? I was considering making them myself on milling machine but not sure of the material.

So Ive been working on this type of clutch for my Pantera 5000 and I wonder why my clutch is making so much of a noise when idle. When I rev up the engine just a little bit the clutch rattle noise goes away, but then if i just leave it on idle it starts rattle and sounds terrible. Another question i have is what type of ramp and spring that is prefered for the Pantera 5000 year 76. Thank you for the good video!

It's normal for hex clutches to have a rattle at idle even if they are brand new or worn out all to hell, same if you just turn it over by hand slowly. The first thing you need to make sure of is that you actually have a 76 machine. Messing up the model year is the most common mistake vintage sled owners make. The build tag is often Not the model year. But if you Do have the 76 pantera with the first edition reverse secondary then your set-up will be #0146-290 ramps, #0146-166 weights(10.6 grams), and yellow spring. All this is according to the Arctic Cat factory illustrated parts manual. If it turns out you actually have a 77 pantera then the set-up is much different because the secondary was put back to regular non-reverse style for a few more years of production.

A “tight” Arctic clutch will have a distinctive whine at idle. Excessive rattle is usually worn hex bushing or the spider is loose on the stationary.
