As a child, I remember thinking how evil and violent it was to kill all those innocent babies….proof or no proof; it’s totally within the scope of possibility. People sacrifice their young now for far less meaningful reasons... At least Herod was able to rationalise it with keeping his throne. Obviously it’s no justification.

Suggestion - Pontius Pilate should get an in context review on an Easter episode of The Brendan Option - ''Not this man but Barabbas'' they wailed. Keep up the good work!

Wow, Fr Brendan. Just wow !!! This is one of your best yet. For some years now I have been saying that the hill of Calvary could actually be the world at any given date in history right up to the present day. The realisation of this was central to bringing me back to the faith. All of human life is there from the grief stricken to to the smart asses hurling insults, and indeed the absent friends who are now not sure they want it known that they were associated with Him. And of course we have the temple officials with their own political agendas at work to ensure, (in the parlance of our own time), He is cancelled.

One thing padre. Herod lived till 1bc. It was a German historian who said 4bc and its been taken as gospel since his time. But 1bc is more likely date of end of his rule

Bethlehem was a small relatively unimportant town - the number of infant males under the age of 2 might have been in the single digits, almost certainly not much more. It’s not surprising, therefore, that the killing of these children from poor, powerless families might not have received attention by those responsible for recording history. How many children have been killed around the world in the last month by war, terror, street violence, etc. whose deaths received little or no attention?

Thanks for this and all your videos! I would appreciate it, if you could talk about the same-sex blessings that Pope Francis set into motion and the confusion this might bring about. I personally feel that sin cannot and should not be blessed, and as I’m currently living in Germany, I’m afraid how our Bishops (especially here in Limburg) will interpret this, causing more damage.
