It's nice that the character has good friends around her that do things to help and support her.

I generally feel bad for both sides of a break up especially when the love has gone BUT when you throw away a good thing/person for dumb reasons/public/family opinion and you've literally kicked your SO out the door, I have no pity for that kitty. Oh I want to feel bad for the kicker because they thought that they were doing to other person a favor, but I just can't. There is a reason this person entered your life. Fate brought you together. To defy fated love for something stupid should bring you nothing but misery. Hopefully the wronged SO picks up the pieces of their soul and heart and shows you how strong they are without you and hopefully they live a good life despite that pain. Love is a great teacher.

What a great drama movie. I find they make the best. My heart felt sorry for both leads. They loved each other but couldn't relate feelings especially of a parent being overly protective. Loved this movie, ended great!!

They broke up wasn’t because he was her first boyfriend it was her mother that didn’t like him and made him break up with her. I think he went through with it because he agrees but if it were me I would find the courage to fight back for love. Her on the other hand didn’t give up, in the end they get back together then his stepmother comes to resolve the problem and everything is fine.

Not saying the way he went about it was right, but to be fair even if he had told her what her mam had said that would cause issues aswell. He wanted to be respectful but obviously didn't go the right way about it. He didn't actually give up considering how he kept going to her etc

I guess it's an unpopular opinion, but I understand her mother, especially after watching the whole drama. Let's look at it from her point of view, ignoring what we as viewers know. She first meets him when he comes to them with his grandfather for a blind date with Niannian's cousin. He doesn't say anything about being in a relationship, much less being with Niannian. It's Wu Bai who speaks up. His job isn't presented in a good light especially since his grandfather disapproves of him quite a bit. Then he comes to see the parents and has to be told that he needs to bring them gifts, and what he brings is fruit baskets from the grocery store close by (showing he didn't think about it) and he's not the most social person so he doesn't make good impression. Then Niannian says they're no longer together but she's super sad about it. The obvious conclusion would be that he broke up with her (hell even I forgot during watching the drama that it was Niannian who broke up the first time). Then he still meets up with her (though Niannian says they're just friends). Her mother understandably thinks he's messing with her head, and he doesn't deny it. Later when they decide to be together for real and be honest about it, he finally opens up (with the help of his step-mother) and Niannian's mother warms up to him. When she made him break up with Niannian, she thought they were only friends and that he was leading her on while not serious about her. She's vilified by fans of the drama, but I think she had good intentions and ultimately that break up helped Niannian and Han's relationship.

I agree, especially she’s a protective mother and Shangyan’s not a very sociable person, people would easily get the wrong idea about him. We must watch the whole charades to understand her mother’s intentions

That's right. Her opinion about him is really understandable. Han Shang Yan is definitely not a nice person, very cold, indifferent, and lack of courtesy. Even his friends tell him so. Just that , since beginning it is very clear that he treats Nian Nian politely which later on makes his boys think that this girl must be very special. Thus they call her sister in law.

Bloody interfering mother yet again destroying a happy relationship...
