HERO | A Furry Story FULL DOCUMENTARY from the creators of The Fandom.

Фильм және анимация

A Furry Documentary: Hero was diagnosed with cancer at the age of 22. After losing faith in himself, and getting ready to give up, he found support in a place he felt safe - The Furry Fandom. Now, Hero is getting his first fursuit and fursuiting for the first time. This is his story.
Please go support Hero @ / herowoof
Hero is a story that is incredibly special to me; it came in the wake of a family members passing from cancer earlier this year. We follow Hero and Acai/WaggeryCostumes ( / waggerycos ) in unison as his suit is being made all the way to the magical moment when he receives it. I am so excited to share this film with you!

You were right, Ash. This is way better than the previous documentary. It tells a story of how these wonderful people at Waggers managed to put together a Fursuit for a Furry that's been diagnosed with cancer. It told us how he was first diagnosed, how Waggers got his commission, showed they made the suit, and when Hero first put it on. It's one of the most heartwarming stories to be told. Thank you for bringing us this. And I look forward to any future documentarys you might have planned.Keep up the good work.

The furry fandom basically saved my life. In 2016, when my wife passed away and I was jobless, broke, and realized that everyone I'd been close to was gone, I nearly ended it all. Someone from my furry friends brought me back. Someone cared enough to help me. And they're now my best friend and I will NEVER go back to that dark place, because of the furry fandom. This isn't just the story of a fursuit being made, or the story of a man with cancer getting his wish, this is a journey of multiple people, and entire group, all experiencing different things and coming together to conquer what's in their way. This was such a beautiful documentary. Thank you for doing this Ash.

To people who say that furries are just nothing in this world, show them this. Show them that this fandom cares....this fandom cares for its family members, and those family members won’t be forgotten, they’ll live on forever in the hearts and souls of everyone around the world even if they never knew you. Each time you put on that Fursuit you’ll be reminded that your loved and cherished for who you are and what you believe in

An odd comparison but one I personally find so true... When people bash the Fandom. This type of family relationship is present in other communities too... I'm a fur but also into the 4x4 offroading community also, we've come together within our club to help somebody lift their jeep to ride with us, to 100+ jeeps and trucks lined up for a 4 y/o boy who wanted a birthday drive by during covid but the fire department said no, a charity event for homeless care.... To the fact that if you post in the 4x4 rescue group people will drive hours to come help you out of a bad situation. I argue the furry fandom is no different, we are a family united under a common interest... Look at what the suit maker did, he answered the call, so furries aren't any weirder than any other community out there, they just have a different name, and look a little different but who cares it's all about having a good time!

I'm from Greece,i discovered the furry fandom about 3 years or so,and i didn't like it at first,bc i was seeing the hate and i was like "man sth isn't going about this fandom" but as i spent more and more time discovering the fandom,i realised there was nothing wrong about it and i started making my first ever fursona (wolf+tiger hybrid),which turned out to be a total failure, since i can't even draw (took me a couple of months, maybe more tbh but i wasn't making any progress at all) so a friend of mine introduced me to a new for me spiecies, the protogens. At first,i didn't even know what that was so i told him "yo are you trolling me or sth?".He said "No not at all, look it up yourself",so i did and i discovered it was most about technology, and i really REALLY like technological stuff in general,so i said to myself "why not make a protogen sona? That would be awsome". And his name is kinda weird ngl..."Dank Protogen".Basically i took the word "Dank" from the word "Dank Memes" ,bc I love these kind of memes, and the word "Protogen"....well the last one is ovbious why i chose it XD. The furry fandom is really cool in general,i also found some friends (some of them even irl).I'm happy to be in this fandom,i really like it

You know, I watched this expecting laughs, I mean, I find the idea of furries fascinating, but this really made me think, it brought some very strong emotions, in this year, this really made me happy to still see good in the world, people giving up their place in line for someone who needed it more, I found that to restore a little faith in my species, I never expected so much from a community that get’s such an unnecessary bad reputation, I like this community a ton, and I think this documentary made me consider joining it, anyway, thanks for coming to my TEDtalk, see you all in 2021.

This is a beautiful story and an inspiring one. Really. My grandfather passed away of cancer and it really hit us hard. It is an ugly thing, cancer. And the fact that this guy found the strength to keep going because of this great community is just incredible. I myself was born with a disability. It isn’t life-threatening in and of itself, But it does heavily impact my quality of life and the things I get to experience on a day-to-day basis. The overwhelming amount of support I have received over these past couple years is absolutely mind-boggling. I have met so many incredible people even in this relatively short chapter in my life. I will always and forever be grateful to the furry fandom. For not just excepting me and others with disabilities, diagnoses, or other problems in their life, but embracing us for the beautiful three-dimensional human beings that we really are. We have been given the incredible gift of a place to belong. It is astounding to me how many people take that for granted. Real talk though, how can I work at a place like this? I’ve always loved working with my hands and creating art, and a smile is the highest form of praise to me. I only have some experience in woodworking and composites, and my training is mostly in metal machining, but my God I wanna work there!

The sad part is health care at least in the states is easily accessible but some procedures cost more than what many make in a year or several years at that. As whose mother is a cancer survivor it shames me that people who are addicted to drugs through their own fault can get access to those drugs or similar ones for little to no cost while people whose literal lives are on the line have to take out an exorbitant loan and pay it off UNTIL they die just so they can LIVE. Our health care system is seriously messed up

"Hero" is short but still feels genuine to it's tone, message and emotionally engaging. While back Director Ash Keris created her feature debut called "The Fandom" and although it is flawed, it still gave a good understanding about the furry fandom and did a pretty good job. Now with this next project which is more of a passion project. The story is heartwarming and emotional. Documentaries are meant to tell someone about the message, the awareness and showing the things they want to express. Here is the story of one man. One man who is ill but dreams to have something he has alway wanted. The film uses a good flow and tone that hits the emotions and punchlines for it's audience at the right points. Nothing felt unnecessary or useless. The film also is an improvement when it comes to presentation and its technique aspects of the film. While "The Fandom" did has some errors, it was nevertheless a passion project completed with heart. Here as another passion project again does a good job. As a film lover, Hero is a good feel documentary and it is not perfect. It's difficult to be exactly perfect because nothing is perfect. But Keris here creates something that is passion for. Something to be interested and touched by. With many documentaries I have seen this year. I can say "Hero" is a insightful and emotional watch for this year. Rating: A- 8/10
