Herne Hill Station 1999 - 2011 Contrasts

Trains at Herne Hill railway station in south London, filmed in summer 1999 and April 2011
This film shows many types of train, including (in 1999) Channel Tunnel Eurostars (in 3rd rail mode - these travelled through here when they were using Waterloo station as their London terminus) and Class 365 'Networker' before they became known as 'happy trains'

    10 years later in 2009 until 2010 the Class 465/0s and Class 465/1 had their motors changed from original motors to new Hitachi motors so they sound like the Class 395s

    this line runs right behind my house, and my room being at the rear of the house i would see and here everything! And i remember it all, miss the eurostars though :(

    Of course at the time I had no idea, as otherwise I would have filmed more of them, but it has become that pictures / video of the original format third rail 465s are very rare.

    I was trying to see whether there's still a notch at the edge of platform 3 where the corner is missing from one of the paving stones. If so, I can tell you how it got there - I watched a pair of workers installing those stones (we're talking some 30 years, or more, ago), and one of the stones had its corner missing - they left it until they had no others left, but then installed it anyway. I left the area in 1984, and it hadn't been fixed by then.

    +London Underground 1973stock The horn in the class 319 for TS is used in other trains by DTG. It's nothing like IRL 319 horn.

    Was that horn at the 2:26 mark from the Class 319 or a different train? I have the Class 319 in Train Simulator and the simulator version doesn't sound a thing like the real 319.

    Another difference from 1991 to 2011 is that you hear a police siren at least once every 5 minutes!

    The class 365s are now replaced by class 465/9s and class 375s

    In 2004 16 Class 365s went to WAGN and got replaced by Brand New Class 375 Electrostars and in 2005 the Class 411s, Class 421s and Class 423s Slam Door EMUs got replaced by Brand New Class 375 Electrostars and Refurbished Class 465/9 Networkers

    Why didn't they keep the 365s? Why not keep them and have a new rail line? Southeastern are a strange company, also owned by the govia devils. I still lobed the video + proper 373s :D

    They got replaced by Class 375s and Class 465/9s when the operator was South Eastern Trains in 2005

    Well it stopped to allow that 365 to pass, so it was probably going to run onto the Tulse Hill line. Probably to a depot to have the United Airlines advertising livery painted on it which they introduced around that time.

    Wait up. Isnt the 365 ac. How is there one in this video. Too my north american knowledge they were never dual mode.

    365s were capable of running in the dc too. But they only did this for a short while when new before being put on a service that did not need this capability

    They were technically dual mode but Connex units didn’t have pantographs and the WAGN units didn’t have 3rd rail shoes. The 3rd rail shoes were also removed from the Ex-Connex units when they were refurbished and transferred to First Capital connect so, with the exception of 365502 that was subleased to WAGN from connex in the aftermath of the Potters Bar crash, they weren’t really dual mode capable in service.
