I think most people who aren't brits/aussies would have the same reaction tbf. We americans love spiced/salty/savoury foods, but there's a line we hit where it just overloads our taste buds, and vegemite/marmite shoot way over that line I think

I grew up near Nashville and had never heard of “Nashville Hot” chicken until it became a thing everywhere a few years ago. Maybe there was one restaurant that served it that got discovered, but it really wasn’t much of a thing at least as far as I remember.

if it has a good combination of citric acid and sweet content in it, it might just flush the hot spices away regardless of carbonation. like mango+orange juice for example works wonders or maybe that's because I can't even eat mild spicy food. tbf don't know if that would've saved me when my younger competitive idiot me just took and ate the pepper pieces our kitchen staff tried to troll us waiters with. not knowing what it was, just that it was spicy. it was a bite sized piece of raw habanero...

Some of us Americans are from states/areas where spicy food is normal. My little city, for instance, has a lot of Thai restaurants so a lot of people have built up some resistance (plus we're on the I-5 corridor so we get a lot of Mexican food). Joe is from Nashville Tennessee, he's probably just as used to spicy food.

That's so weird that everyone thinks Joe Hills didn't look bothered. I think he looked very bothered, but he was playing it off. When he first bit and he did the big talk it hadn't hit him yet, but as time went on he just zoned out and went to some internal place to escape the pain. As someone who has tried carolina reapers, I relate to that so much, I can see he's really feeling it. And he ran off so quick, and was gone from his chat for a loooong time. I think it's Joe's personality, that he doesn't express emotions. But in me eyes, he seemed to be one of the worst hit. He just didn't express it.

I'm impressed with Grian and Timmy. It takes courage to eat spicy things, sure, but it takes a sense of independence and self-love to withstand pier pressure and nope out. I've tried carolina reapers before so I know what kind of territory they were going to. I know the pain afterwards, and the violent toilet breaks. They should be proud of being able to make responsible decisions.

fun fact: Water just makes it worse. Hot sauces are oil based, and water just helps spread it around your mouth instead of washing it down. Drink milk. Also dish soap is the best to get chilli and hot sauce off your hands.

Im so happy that the server invited Grian back in Season 6. He as brought so much life to the whole server and gotten so many more hermits interacting with others far more regularly than before. I feel like events such as this might never have happened if Grain hadnt helped everyone grow out of their shells a bit more. Its so awesome to see everyone all together in real life having a blast like they do this daily.

Marmite spread *very thinly* on top of some good cheddar cheese and grilled atop some toast is absolutely delicious. The big mistake people make is that they spread it thickly like jam/jelly when it should be a thin smear, almost translucent, otherwise it will overpower EVERYTHING with a salty umami (savoury) taste. Oh, and Marmite crisps (chips) are top tier.

The reason why hot spicy food hurts is because hot spice inflicts nothing but pain to the nerve endings it has contact with, the heat/pain has nothing to do with your taste buds tasting it.

You know, when you follow content creators like the HC crew and really only have the interaction level of watching their YT content and just a few of the other projects they put out here, you construct an image of the person in your mind of what you think they look like. Of course I've seen Tango, Skizz, Impulse, Grian and Stress prior to this, but Zed and Iskall look EXACTLY like I pictured them to be and I honestly can't wipe the smile off my face from that fact :D
