HermitCraft 9 ep 10: The Guppy Geyser! Mega-base location!

Ойындар

I just wanted to build a new portal to my pinball machine mega base, but @GoodTimesWithScar, @PearlescentMoon, @xisumavoid, @ZombieCleo, and @TangoTekLP had other ideas!
00:00 Howdy, flaming cascade of fire arrows with Pearl and Scar
06:39 Guppy Geyser with Cleo, Tango, and Scar
16:45 Guardian Temple with Xisuma
21:47 Mega-base portal

Pretty sure the arrows glitch sometimes happens when someone shoots arrows into an unloaded chunk. When the chunk gets loaded much later, ghost arrows appear. And the game shows the flight of the same ghost arrow multiple times - it's not actually that many arrows, but a much smaller amount that gets repeated a couple times before it stops. There have been a couple times in the last few weeks when people did mid-air bow duels over the spawn village, that's probably when it happened.

That does make sense. It looks just like when you tick freeze with carpet mod. The client shows some animation based on the arrow data, but server time doesn't actually progress, so the rendered arrows are constantly rubber-banded back to their official position. Although i don't get why Joe's client would think there are arrows there when there's obviously not.

So, I’ve had a simular thing to the guppy Geyser happen on a multiplayer server I was on. Built my base above a lush cave, only found out when digging down to make a mine. Used a water bucket to get down into the cave itself before I installed my ladder, and left the water stream running into a hole. A week later I had like 6 stacks of tropical fish cause they kept spawning in the water column, swimming up and then falling out and diying. My guess is that although tropical fish can spawn in lush caves, they can only spawn in water which is at least 2 blocks deep, and the state of the water dosnt matter so it can be flowing, source blocks or bubble column. And since they’re part of a separate mob cap for fish, they will spawn in large numbers where avalible.. in this case inside the bubble column where they get flung out the top after

Joe, in Tupi language (Brazilian indians language) there is a river in the city of São Paulo that is called PIRATININGA. And the translation mean rotten fish or dead fish. Is that fish farm a glitch? I swear I've seen Hermits make fish farms in the past that explained fish couldn't spawn in bubble columns. As far why it's working at all - I assume it's because when you're standing at the top, your spawning radius doesn't reach the lush cave below, so that water column DOES end up being the only place anything can spawn. And then when you're at the bottom, your anti- spawn radius is covering up the immediate lush cave pools, so the bubble column is STILL the best spawning location.

Joe, there are like two thousand different tropical fish in Minecraft. About 20 of them are very common, but like 5% or 10% of tropical fish that spawn are completely randomized. You can distinguish them when you pick them up in a bucket (careful, they won't despawn after that so you will want to keep or kill them): The common types only have a name when you hover over it, while the randomized ones have a pattern name and below that their one or two colours. If you see two of the same type, they are very likely to be one of the common types.

So I think the reason why tropical fish spawned in like crazy is because fish need water that is at least 3 blocks deep (although there's some weird caveats with waterlogged blocks and such) and a lot of the water around the shopping district cave is only one block deep. They actually aren't supposed to spawn in bubble columns, that was fixed recently.

You could sell water buckets near it for people to catch the specific color of fish people might want.

I know it's been two weeks but I feel like Zedaph should see this. Well, everyone should see this really. But if there's someone who's known for experimenting on weird mechanics with animals and the various ways of flinging objects, it's Zedaph

So for the guppy geyser, maybe make the top a 5x5 half block deep pool, so hermits can wade among all of the tropical fish?

@JoeHills: If I may suggest... ... perhaps you could put a wall on 3 of the 4 sides of your Guppy Geyser, 2 blocks tall, of glass? Not only would you be protecting people from accidentally getting projected back down the hole, but it also makes it easier to collect specific fish into buckets, when the time comes to start an aquarium collection. --- As a challenge, you might enjoy trying to be the first on the server to acquire at-least one of every type of fish --- I'm sure that other useful ideas will occur to you in the future

I think the reason why the fishes are spawning a bunch is because the water column is made of a bunch of source blocks, so the chances of a single fish (or school) spawning in one goes up with each block. Therefor, the best Guppy Geyser is from Bedrock to max height… if this theory is correct after all!

You might be able to make a slime piston minecart launcher/pinball machine. You could even randomize it a bit. But of course that type of machine works better vertical than on a 30o angle.
