We don't know for _sure_ that she was already part of the resistance and just faked dropping in. Heck, we don't even know if all of this (or at least the war) is spontaneous or full-on pre planned. Either of which would be amazing to find out. :) It's like learn how magic tricks work and then learning how you can make them real-real with more sophisticated science: Some people get bored, some people get sad/mad because "the magic was ruined", and others like me are overjoyed with all the knowledge. To any aspiring resistance members, I tell you this: A supporter of the HEP has made a barrel where you can turn in mycelium and get diamonds, with the intention that HEP members and supporters remove mycelium from the island. BUT any enterprising resistance members could, say, turn in some mycelium from, say, their mycelium farms, and acquire funding, while taking away HEP funds. Additionally, they could jury rig the machine to instead of sending the mycelium to wherever the HEP sends it to, send it to a dead drop spot where resistance members can recoup all mycelium given to the barrel by HEP members, and also get paid to farm mycelium. Thusly, You accomplish many things to support the resistance: You fund the resistance with mycelium from HEP Members and neutral hermits You take funds away from HEP. Resistance members make diamonds. I don't know what effect this'll have behind the scenes, but in scene it'd certainly make for an episode I'd watch.

It could be a trick, only the people from the resistance would have enough mycelium to swindle the mayor enough. So either they dont buy at all or get someone who isn't part of the resistance and make them swindle the mayor. (Either by contacting a hermit and directly talk to them, or for full secrecy put a chest in a random hermit's house and directions and tell them that they can keep half the money if they swindle the mayor and tell them to put the money in the same chest) Edit: Then again the HEP already knows who is part of the resistance through Grain's videos. So likely they can't swindle the mayor at all and might still need to do some undercover stuff.

If not for the diamonds, for the mycelium. You could put a syphon on the machine to take the mycelium to the resistance instead of to wherever the HEP want it. Also, the machine seems anonymous, so they can't catch mycelium resistance members from it.
