    Build? You got off easy. Back when I built my Hermes Lite 2 in 2018, I had to order blank PCBs, all the components, and assemble everything by hand. I even built a second one for my brother. They both still work perfectly!

    Nice build video. Another idea to help make sure that the shim doesn't shift is after you apply the thermal paste to the board and a fix the shim to the right location, use a little bit of nail polish at either end and allow a few minutes for it to dry, then this will make sure that when you slide it in it won't shift out of place. Thread the bolt through and a fix your nut. Back in the old days of radio construction, small amounts of wax would be used to hold things in place.

    Built the Hermes Lite 2 and have had a blast with it. I added the Hermes Lite 2 plus companion board for better CW with side tone and the ability to have audio I/O directly on the radio. Needed to load forked gateware. It worked well. I was not able to get TX audio working the way I wanted with SDR Console but it works perfectly with Open HP SDR (PowerSDR).

    I own many radios (flex and elecraft included) and this one is my favorite. Its affordable and the software for it is great. My preference is the linhpsdr software. NR2 algorithm is nothing short of amazing. I recommend this radio to everyone.

    That is an interesting product. With an amplifier network connected radio could make a nice remore rig (like being in the noisy city and having the radio somewhere with less noise). My Icom has 100W but the noise level in the residential area is just too high to hear anything but very strong stations in my QTH. 73s

    You definitely need more videos on this. The Transmit capabilities with PowerSDR are fantastic and with SparkSDR you can monitor with additional firmware up to 11 band slices at once. I have even added a 220Mhz and 2 Meter Transverter to the Hermes. This is a very powerful platform. Can you please comment on this as I have heard this on the Hermes Forums. "This is the same inside radio used in the Apache Labs Radios". And the design came from early Apache Labs designs? I am not sure of these claim but it make some sense. I have used the radio for FT8, and SSB and I have tried 2 inexpensive amplifiers with it that are easily added, the MX-P50M and the KP-990. The KP-990 will transmit 50W output cleanly because it is a 100W amp.

Apache makes the Anan line in India and have been doing so for 20 years. I added it to a surplus Sailor T1130 for 250mw in and 500 w out with low pass filters. Uses Thesis. Cheers, VK5LB

    Depends, most HF radios have their first IF well outside the HF band so if the Hermes can only cover 0-38MHz then the answer is likely to be no. You'd be better served by a dirt cheap RTL-SDR if all you want is a pan adapter.

    Been out of military comms for 30 yrs but SWL was teenage hobby and I might just finally have time for a ham license. KZread research frequently mentions Hermes needing "ethernet" connection. My router for 5Ghz wifi is completely on the far side of my apartment and I dont fancy a 30 foot cable snaking through the rooms. Will Hermes work via Wifi? I have no intention of networking a hamshack full of equipment. Thankyou!

  • @TechMindsOfficial

    @TechMindsOfficial

    In my tests WiFi was not great, it needs cable. However, there is no reason why you cannot connect the HL2 directly to your computer via the Ethernet port, it can be done without a router.
