The band may be Dutch, but the song Country Roads, was written by the American writers Bill Danoff, Taffy Nivert, and John Denver about the American state of West Virginia (ironically they had never been to West Virginia when they wrote it). This band is covering the song, its not their song though (that would explain why in this music video, West Virginia is portrayed as the wild west, which is not accurate). The song is also very popular in Germany as a party hit. It might also be a popular party hit in Holland / Netherlands, especially if this band is Dutch, I am just saying that my German buddy told me it is popular in Germany. I am a West Virginian, this song is an unofficial state song for us.

My dad played this for me and my siblings as a kid, and to quote him "this is the only good country road song in existence".

In 2003 I became best friends with a girl who had just moved to oz from England, we were 8yrs old, pretty much everytime we were in the car at night to a friend's house her parents would blast this song. Aftr only a year of being here they went back I got back into contact 5yrs ago. Ever since 2003 I've been trying to find this version of the song and as I was young I didn't know the artist it would always come up as John Denver in search, I knew that wasn't it & no internet. On Christmas 2013 a friend's dad knew of this song.. I listened to it straight away and cried haha just coz of my friend and the memories it brought back :) I just love this song soo much and glad I've found it.

I listened to this song for the first time in Germany in Weiden in 2001, it brings back crazy memories, I stayed 5 months in Germany, one of the best periods of my life. This Jhon Denver song has become my best song I learned it by heart

Just heard this song playing at my local Birmingham city (UK) Christmas Market, huge huuuge market this year with crowded zillions of people around. I knew every word as I walked past the loudspeakers, the whole atmosphere was great!

I've lived in WV all my 65 years, and love it. We ain't cowboys, but what the heck. Y'all go !!!

They played this version on Pure Radio Scotland this morning and not heard it in decades. It instantly lifted my mood after such an unhappy time. One of the few remakes of a song that I really like. 😊

The reasoning behind this is that this and Cotton Eyed Joe were not just played at my dads wedding dance, which especially sticks in my head since I was best man and they were the very few songs I danced to, they were also the songs that I listened to during the 'rare' time I spent with my dad as a youngster. maybe between 10-8 years ago. oh the memories

They both have their moods, for different vibes. John Denver's is for wistfulness, Hermes House Band's is for bouncing around. Neither is better than the other, they just fit different situations.
