Here's a video of a recent backpacking trip to Herman's Cave in the Superstition Wilderness. Like all hikes in the Superstitions, this one was rugged and wild.

I moved out of AZ 23 years ago; I visit occasionally and hiked in the Superstitions last fall. It is the idea that I could have access to that magnificent scenery that has me thinking of moving back. It is nothing short of magical out there and I know of no place like it. The scenery and the stories, what a combination. Nice video, thanks for posting. Hope your head healed up nicely.

The Superstitions are my happy place. One of, if not the, closest wildernesses to my house. Looking forward to cooler weather so I can get back out there. And that was my friend who ran into the cactus. Luckily, he's got a hard head, so he's fine.

I believe its called Florence Nightingale effect. Back story to that is lady in question pioneered modern nursing care. This was adopted so many times in so many books, movies and comics. In more recent years a character called Dr. Harley Quinzel (Harleen Quinn aka Joker's girlfriend in Batman comics).

I did this about a week after but hiked through to the other side of upper la barge canyon and camped up there. Great trail, and all the water was amazing. The area I was at was burned over, along with being between a couple creeks leading into la barge left me soaked in condensation. Also, that climb up Dutchmen’s to whiskey springs felt a lot more strenuous than I think it should have.

Lived in Phoenix in the mid seventies and hiked in the 4 peaks area. Came upon a series of steep east/west ridges. The south facing sides were cactus/scrub but as soon as you topped out you descended into a pine forest with a little rill at the bottom and then right back into the cactus as you climbed the other side. The contrast of environments was stark. Not sure of the elevation guessing maybe 2K feet below the peaks on the western slope.

Strangest I think would be Valley of Dreams in New Mexico. Went there once years ago and I can't put my finger on it, but it was...spooky, I guess it the best word. Like I didn't want to spend the night out there solo and didn't. Went back a few years later and it was like the entire landscape (like the roads) were all changed around. To the point where I had GPS tracks from the previous trip saved and the roads just weren't there. I still went, but I was glad it was day time and was relieved when it was time to leave. Not sure what's going on out there.

Strange indeed. Sounds similar to other stories I've heard about entering random portals of another space/time. Perhaps a parallel dimension? I've experi3nced something spooky in a island in Miami where it felt time stood still in a sense. The water stopped waving, trees had no breeze and time just stood still. The person next to me noticed it too. We were low key freaked out and decided it was time to go. Haha Well thanks for sharing. Def will go to the badlands when I go back to NM. NM has plenty special places.

I saw that. Subway in winter? No thanks. Too many people go into that thing (especially top down) unprepared. Specifically made two separate videos about it to try to help people prepare for what they're getting themselves into. If you have canyoneering experience, it's incredible. If you go in expecting a hike, you're probably getting more adventure than you bargained for. And swimming in the winter? No thank you. Wait....I just did that with Nick in the Supes a couple weeks ago....Guess I can't judge.

I'm so bad at this, honestly. When we're in town we've been pretty disappointed and usually stick to....Macayos. Yeah. I said it. We have places we like, but they're usually out of town and we hit them during our adventures. Escobar's in Kanab and El Patio outside Camp Verde are favorites. (Especially El Patio.) If you want fancy, you go for Mariposa or Elote in Sedona.
