Herman Miller Embody vs WorkPro Quantum 9000 (Comparison + Review + Chair Race)

The Herman Miller Embody is one of the best (and most popular) office chairs in the market and starts at a massive $1,495 price. We thought that seemed a bit expensive for an office chair so we put it head-to-head against the WorkPro Quantum 9000 office chair. Why the Workpro? The Slickdeals community voted it to be the #1 office chair deal of the year when it was on sale for $209. No, this is not the cheapest chair of all time, it is just the best deal (according to a community of 13 million deal experts). We put both these chairs to the test and evaluated their design & features... and then raced them around the office.

Have a 10 year old Herman Miller. Still solid as hell and never had a day of back pain despite spending 6-10 hours daily in it. You don't buy it for short term comfort. You buy it for long term benefits and posture. Worth every penny.

I have been sitting in an Aeron for years I cannot go back to another chair. I just purchased an Embody for my wife and so far she loves it. For something that you sit in 8-12 hours a day (especially during WFH), why not get the best if you can afford it. Notice how the slickdeals staff all get Herman Miller Chairs. Also, there the used market for these HM chairs is quite strong, so it isn't difficult to find used versions for 50%+ off retail.

I had the workpro quantum for 9 years and used it constantly about 50 - 60 hours a week. about 5 years in, the base that controls it going up and down had gone out. I called customer service and they sent me a new part free. I would recommend it to anyone. I believe when i bought it, the original price was $400? but it went on sale for around $300? that was a long time ago though. I got rid of the chair because we moved and my wife wanted a cuter chair to go in our living area. Sigh. I would probably get the German miller except that i want a head rest, and i want to adjust the seat in and out. Yes. Yes. i know, you can buy a chair that should match your height, but I'm so picky and maybe someone else in my family wants to use it as well? so the lack of adjustment makes the herman miller a 'no' for me. I also have a feeling that my male compadres would prefer mesh over fabric since it tends to keep it cooler with the airflow.

Funny, I bought so many office chairs off Slickdeals in the last 6 months. Started with the Staples Tarrence. Then a Staples Hyken. Then a Staples Dexley. Then a Staples Union and Scale. Then a WorkPro Quantum 12000. I'm finally sitting on a Herman Miller Embody which I ordered straight from HM. This chair is so much better than any previous chair I've tried it's not even funny. I would have paid 3,000 for the Embody if it were priced that high, and I say that as a dedicated Slickdealer. My back doesn't ache anymore like it did on the previous chairs. The Embody will pay me back multiple ways. I know that even 10 years down the line, I can sell it for at least $500. I mean, look at Aerons. $1000 new, and going used for $400 to 500 EASY. What's more important, however, is the fact that the Embody will likely keep me from having to go to doctors for back pain when I'm older. That's the biggest savings one can get.

I own the workpro quantum 9000 with the headrest. It's a great chair. Lots of adjustments, the lean back is great for content consumption. You can increase the tension enough to keep you sitting in a very ergonomic position. The armrests are really comfortable and adjustable. Not sure why they think Office depot won't stand behind their chair? It comes with a limited lifetime warranty. Definitely worth a sit if you have the chance to try it out.

I mean I just think its a matter of data. Its very easy to find testimonies on forums for people who have screenshots and stories of Herman Miller warranty customer service. A lot less people even have an Office Depot nearby to know what the chair is lol, yet alone to take them on their warranty. I bought a Staples Hyken and got their added warranty for $20. A year and a half later needed to use the warranty since the chair broke some, and it was definitely not a process that was very clearly defined or well executed. I eventually got a Staples gift card for the price of the chair, but no warranty is to the level of HM who pay to pickup your chair at your house and send you a brand new a decade later lol

I have the Aeron, 1. Cons for my situation: Mesh, that means that because is a Herman Miller does not mean is actually the best for you, there is a psychological fact about that, that when you pay a high price means that it is what you need, that's not always right. The mesh model Aeron does not work for me after some years because it goes like hammock, it will goes down to struggle you into a point and not keeping you comfortable. I have a $60 USD chair from Costco that works really well against the Aeron, why, because it has a flat seat, more "solid" (one piece with memory foam) instead instead of seating on a hammock.

@@GlassOnion23 It's a common understanding that the more you pay for something the more inclined you are to avoid wanting to realize anything negative about it, and the more inclined you are to convince yourself that it was worth the money. That's just a trait of human nature that any psychology professor will tell you about. And I'm not saying the expensive chairs aren't worth the money. I've just found that when I buy something expensive I expect a lot and am usually bummed out that they don't meet my expectations. Whereas if I don't pay much I don't expect much and are often pleasantly surprised how good the item is! I've done that with cars, phones, computers, guitars, furniture, etc. And if you look at Herman Miller furniture it makes me laugh how much they charge for some of their products! Have you looked at the prices of their tables, couches, etc? It's crazy expensive and there is no way it's worth the money unless you buy it for art or resale as a collectors piece! A lot of people have a lot of money these days and Herman Miller furniture appeals to them. So be it. But even if I have the money I still can't just blow it on "art". I just bought a WorkPro 9000 which got really good reviews but if I don't like it I might buy an Embody or Aeron. But I've bought too many premium products and in the end not been as thrilled with them as the cheaper things I buy because I expected so much from them.

@@joeking433 To be fair I think you are simply an uninformed shopper. Herman Miller couches are reasonably priced for high end furniture, you probably just don't know anything about furniture. After my current couches started falling apart, I started researching how couches are made. So I set out to buy a leather sectional that looks and feels like my current budget couch, but is designed to not fall apart. And its looking like that is going to cost me around 12-15 grand, which is about what a leather sectional from Herman Miller costs. Its not crazy expensive, you just don't understand why its expensive, so you probably assume ikea garbage is "just as good". Nobody is blowing money on "art." They are paying for higher build quality and more durable materials. Case in point, the type of leather HM uses on their couches, is not considered a fancy looking leather. It is however one of the most durable and wear resistant forms of leather. Obviously HM wants to design nice looking products, but their main goal is to build the most durable products possible. Thats why they will openly show things like abrasion testing for all their upholsteries. Good luck trying to get that kind of information out of low to mid range furniture manufacturers, they will never tell you. Because its all cheap garbage designed to fall apart. If you do buy an Aeron, you will quickly realize the thing is built like a tank and feels like it will last a lifetime. I bought and ultimately returned a workpro 12000 before buying an Aeron and that thing was a rickety piece of crap in comparison. I have no doubt the Aeron will be cheaper in the long run. I am a huge cheapskate, but one thing I have learned to never cheap out on over the years, is furniture. Or at least not furniture you plan to use on a daily basis. I think you may be projecting a bit because it sounds like you make a lot of uninformed purchases and/or are very susceptible to marketing. But the Aeron is the best selling chair in america, despite not being available at any major retailers and having virtually no marketing. It didn't achieve that status because there is a huge market for artistic office furniture. It achieved that status because there is a huge market for quality office furniture.

If I'm paying $1,500 for a chair, it better clean my apt, do my laundry, and cook me food. No chair is worth that price.

Disagree but each can have their opinion. I personally have the Logitech Embody I purchased open box for $850 and it's done wonders for my back.

NO ONE needs a $1000 chair., Herman is the biggest rip off and gullible poeple fall for their marketing. Its the "Cool" factor that sells. A chair should be $400 at the most!

Soooo because I saved money to get something that is good for my health makes me rich? Didn't know... Also, I don't have the Embody but I am trying to decide between it and the Steelcase Gesture.
